Scope1.1 This test method covers the determination of the mo

The weight loss is used todetermine the percent moisture content of the fiber.4. Significance and Use4.1 This test method w

8、ill give a value of moisture contentobtained under specified conditions. This value should not beconsidered as an absolute moisture content. Results may notcompare with those obtained by the same method underdifferent conditions, or by different methods.5. Apparatus5.1 Drying Oven, capable of mainta

9、ining 105 to 110C 220to 230F.5.2 Balance, with sensitivity of 0.01 g and capacity of atleast 400 g.5.3 Weighing ContainersShallow borosilicate glassdishes or corrosion-resistant metal pans approximately 200 mm8 in. in diameter. Examples of suitable containers are glassculture dishes or sifting sieve

Sampling and Preparation6.1 Sampling and preparation shall be in accordance withTest Method D2590, omitting Section 6 of that test method, forchrysotile asbestos, and with Test Method D3879 omittingdrying step described in the first sentence of Section 6.3 of t

When unsure of thetype of asbestos to be tested, refer to Terminology D2946 fordetailed descriptions of chrysotile and of the more commontypes of amphibole asbestos fibers. Procedure7.1 Weigh out three 50-g test specimens to the nearest 0.01g simultaneously and spread them evenly into pre

16、viously taredweighing containers. Record the weight of the containers plusweight of fiber as W1.7.2 Dry the specimens in an oven at 105 to 110C 220 to230F for 1 h.7.3 Remove the dried specimen from the oven and cool toroom temperature in a desiccator. Weigh the container anddried fiber to the neares

17、t 0.01 g and record as W2.NOTE 1Weigh the dried specimens without delay to minimize thegain in weight caused by the rapid absorption of atmospheric moisture dueto the hygroscopic nature of dried asbestos. Alternatively, weighing maybe carried out in an airtight weighing container.8. Calculation8.1 C

18、alculate the percentage moisture as follows:Moisture, percent 5 W12 W2!/50.00 3 100where:W1= weight of tared container plus 50.00 g of fiberspecimen, andW2= weight of tared container plus dried fiber.9. Report9.1 Report the average of three determinations as thepercent moisture content of the fiber

Precision and Bias10.1 PrecisionThe single-sample, multiple operator in-tralaboratory precision is within 1 % of the average in 95 % ofcas

20、es.10.2 BiasThe moisture content of asbestos fiber at equi-librium with the surrounding atmosphere is a function ofatmospheric temperature, barometric pressure and relativehumidity5. Thus, different values will be obtained with differ-ent conditions. Generally, this variation will not be significant

21、for normal atmospheric changes.11.
