Materials and Manufacture4.1 The designated polymer shall comprise 100 % of theelastomer and a minimum of 60 % of the nonvolatile content.4.2 The designated polymer shall be homogeneously com-pounded with pigments, extenders, s

10、tabilizers, antidegradants,and curatives. The product shall be free from graininess, gelparticles, and foreign materials.5. Physical Requirements5.1 The material shall conform to the physical propertiesprescribed in Table 1.6. Sampling6.1 The sample shall be a 1-L (1-qt) aliquot consisting of acompo

11、site taken, when possible, from three or more separatecontainers chosen at random. The sample shall be placed immediately in an airtightglass jar or metal can until tested.7. Retest and Rejectio

15、n7.1 If the results of any test do not conform to the require-ments of this specification, retesting to establish conformitymay be performed as agreed upon between the purchaser andthe seller.8. Specimen Preparation8.1 Prepare all film specimens in accordance with Method Dof Test Methods D 823.4Take

16、 care to prevent puddling andkeep specimens horizontal at all times. When more than onecoat is required, allow each to dry to touch prior to applicationof subsequent coats.8.2 Prepare 0.25-mm (10-mil) wet film specimens for de-termination of drying time on glass plates, approximately 15 by75 mm. 17、 by 3 in).8.3 Prepare 0.75-mm (30-mil) wet film specimens for de-termination of solids, percent by volume, on a release surface5approximately 75 by 150 mm (3 by 6 in.).8.4 Prepare cured film specimens for all tests except adhe-sion on release paper5approximately 250 by 350 mm (10 by 14in.).Adjust th

18、e doctor blade to produce a wet film that will givea total dry film thickness of approximately 0.40 mm (15 mils)after two applications. Dry the specimens for 24 h at 23 6 2C(73.4 6 3.6F) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity, and then curethem in accordance with the coating manufacturers instruc-tions. Con

19、dition the cured specimens for 72 h at 23 6 2C(73.4 6 3.6F) before carefully stripping the film from therelease paper.8.5 Prepare cured film specimens for the adhesion test onthe A face of a 13-mm (12-in.) exterior grade plywood sheetconforming to the requirements of Voluntary Product StandardPS - 1

20、, approximately 225 by 450 by 6 mm (9 by 18 by14 in.),with 150 mm (6 in.) at one end covered by kraft paper. Usestrips of cellophane pressure-sensitive tape along each edge ofthe kraft paper to ensure smooth, tight contact with theplywood sheet. Prepare a primer consisting of one part of thetest coa

21、ting and two parts of xylene, well stirred together.Brush-apply a coat of primer to the plywood sheet includingthe paper-covered end, and allow to dry to touch. Then applytwo coats of the undiluted test coating, each coat having aminimum wet-film thickness of 0.75 mm (30 mils). When thefinal test co

22、at has dried for 24 h, brush-apply two coats ofneoprene contact adhesive6to the test specimen and to a 225 by600-mm (9 by 24-in.) strip of No. 10 canvas duck.7Allow bothsurfaces to dry to a tacky state and then mate the coated side ofthe canvas strip to the test specimen to facilitate stripping of t

23、hefilm. Cure the test specimens in accordance with the coatingmanufacturers instructions, and then condition the curedspecimens for 72 h at 23 6 2C (73.4 6 3.6F). Afterconditioning, strip back the cellophane tape holding the kraft4Hand-operated doctor blades are acceptable, provided that bubble-free

24、 filmsvarying no more than 5 % in thickness can be produced.5Trifoil TFE-fluorocarbon-coated aluminum foil tape applied to a flat surfacesuch as glass has been found to be satisfactory. 31、s value indicates time between successivecoats and time to be provided before permitting access to a roofor deck.9.3.2 Significance and UseDry-to-touch indicates timeduring which the wet coating is susceptible to pick-up of dustor light debris, or both. Dry-hard time corresponds to theminimum allowa

32、ble time for permitting access for recoatingpurposes. The manufacturer may specify longer times beforepermitting access by other trades or the public.9.3.3 ApparatusA weighted spherical pin designed tocontact the surface of the test specimen, connected by an armto the shaft of an electric timing mot

33、or which completes onerevolution in 24 h.8The pin scribes an arc in the test coatinguntil the film has dried.The time along the arc is then measuredwith a circular metal template marked from 0 to 24 h.9.3.4 ProcedurePlace the weighted spherical pin on thewet-film specimen and start the electric moto

34、r. Run until onlyslight scratching of the film is discernible. This is the dry-hardtime. Dry-to-touch time, as measured with the template, is thetime when the coating no longer flows back into the channeland the spherical pin begins to leave an irregular trace.9.3.5 PrecisionHumidity, temperature, a

35、nd air circulationmay cause wide variations in drying time. Consequently, mostcompounds will dry much faster than the specified maximums.The specified maximum dry time is provided for the purposesof excluding compounds which could cause application prob-lems.9.4 Solids, Volume Percent:9.4.1 ScopeThi

36、s test value, in percent, expresses thevolume of film forming material contained in a given volumeof coating.9.4.2 Significance and UseThis test procedure providesmeans for determining the quantity of material needed toprovide the proper film thickness on any given area.9.4.3 Test ProcedureMeasure w

37、et-film thickness immedi-ately after casting with an Interchemical or Nordson Wet FilmGage9in at least six positions which are a minimum of 50 mm(2 in.) from any edge. Dry, cure, and condition the filmspecimens as described in 8.4. Carefully strip the film from therelease surface and measure the dry

38、 film thickness with amicrometer in at least six positions, a minimum of 50 mm (2in.) from any edge.
