Scope1.1 This specification covers cable i

3、n conduit (CIC), whichis a smooth-walled, coilable, high-density polyethylene(HDPE) conduit (duct) that contains preassembled wires andcables. The outside diameter of the conduit is controlled andthe wire or cable encased within may be comprised of single ormultiple configurations consisting of elec

4、trical/power wires orcables, fiber optic, traditional copper communication, coaxialcable, or any combination thereof. CIC configurations arepreassembled into the conduit during the extrusion process andin industry-specific designs for use in commercial, industrial,transportation, government, and uti

5、lity applications1.2 This specification does not attempt to identify everypossible preassembled conduit/cable configuration but is in-tended to identify material and minimum assembled productproperties for optimizing reliability and service life.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be re

6、gardedas standard. Application and Installation4.1 GeneralThis specification covers conduit made fromnon-pressure rated HDPE resins available in five wall typesthat are outside diameter controlled.4.2 HDPE conduit for underground electrical d

23、istributionsystems utilizing insulations suitable for use with power andelectrical conductors not exceeding 194F (90C) for normalallowable cable operating temperature. The minimum recom-mended installation temperature for the HDPE duct is -13F(-25C), but in no case should be lower than the minimumin

24、stallation temperature of the cable.4.3 CIC is ideally suited for underground or buried instal-lations that allow it to be placed in continuous runs betweentermination points with a limited number of obstructions in theroute. CIC can be installed using any of the followinginstallation methods; in a

25、trench, plowed or horizontal direc-tionally drilled.4.4 Concrete encasement of CIC made from HDPE forproviding added mechanical protection is an acceptable option.4.5 CIC may be required by local, state or federal agenciesor other governing bodies or codes to be approved for use. Forexample, CIC wit

26、h electrical cables may need to be installed inaccordance with the NFPA 70 National Electric Code (NEC)and have third party testing, be properly labeled and listed bya certified testing laboratory.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Polyethylene Plasticsthe high-density polyethylene(HDPE) materials used

27、 to make the conduit under this speci-fication shall meet or exceed the following requirements:5.1.1 CompoundPE resin compounds shall be classified inaccordance with Specification D3350, Table 1.5.1.2 Rework MaterialClean polyethylene compoundfrom the manufacturers internal production may be com-pou

28、nded into the conduit, either alone or blended with virgincompound. Conduit containing the rework material must meetall the material and property requirements of this specification.5.1.3 Material Physical Properties:5.1.3.1 DensityDensity values shall be determined by TestMethods D792, D1505 or D488

29、3.5.1.3.2 Melt IndexMelt index of up to 0.55 grams/10minutes as per Test Method D1238 condition 190/2.16 isallowable provided that all other material requirements speci-fied in Table 1 are met.5.1.3.3 Slow Crack GrowthThe minimum requirement asper Test method D1693, Condition B, 10% Igepal solution,

30、with a requirement of F10 96 hours as defined per cellclassification 8 in D3350.5.1.3.4 The tests listed in this section, shall be confirmed forthe PE compound by the resin or conduit manufacturer. Marking12.1 Marking on the conduit shall be legible and of a colorthat contrasts with the color of the conduit. The marking on theconduit shall include at minimum, the f

(1.5 m).12.1.1 The letters ASTM followed by the designation letterand numbers of this specification (D3485).12.1.2 The letters HDPE.12.1.3 Conduit Trade Size (that is, 2.0” IPS, etc).12.1.4 The wall type, (that is, SDR 13.5 or Schedule 40,etc.)12.
