1、Designation: D 3500 90 (Reapproved 2003)Standard Test Methods forStructural Panels in Tension1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 3500; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A

2、number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 These test methods cover the determination of thetens

3、ile properties of structural panels.1.2 Structural panels in use include plywood, waferboard, oriented strand board and composites of veneer, and otherwood-based layers1.3 Test Method A, Tensile Test for Small Specimens:1.3.1 This test method employs small specimens that shouldhave a reduced cross se

The transition from full width ofspecimen to reduced section at the center should be gradual tominimize stress concentration.1.3.2 When the measurements of elastic properties are to bemade, the length of the reduced cross section

5、at the centershould be of sufficient length to accommodate an extensometer.1.4 Test Method B, Tensile Test for Large Specimens:1.4.1 This test method employs large specimens and re-sponds well to manufacturing variables, plywood growthcharacteristics, and other defects influencing the tensile prop-e

6、rties of structural panels.1.4.2 The test specimens are large enough to contain themaximum sized defects found in plywood panels. The testspecimens have a constant cross section since the size andlocation of defects control the location of failures and the effectof stress concentration at the grips

8、omposites containing veneer with growth and manufacturingcharacteristics.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine

Significance and Use3.1 These tes

10、t methods determine the tensile properties ofstructural panels in response to stresses acting in the plane ofthe panel.3.2 Test Method AThis test method is suited to materialthat is uniform with respect to tensile properties. It is normallyapplied to structural panels and plywood of clear, straight-

11、grained veneers. It may also be used to evaluate the strength ofscarf and finger joints and other manufacturing process vari-ables that can be expected to influence the tensile properties ofstructural panels in a uniform manner across the width of thesheet.3.3 Test Method BThis test method employs l

12、arge testspecimens and responds well to all manufacturing variablesand growth characteristics that affect the tensile properties ofstructural panels.3.4 It is recommended that where comparisons are to bemade that the same test method and specimen size be usedthroughout. This is because the volume of

13、 material included ina test specimen can influence the tensile strength regardless ofwhether the material properties are uniform throughout thesheet or vary widely due to the presence of growth ormanufacturing features.4. Control of Moisture Content4.1 Structural panel specimens to be tested at spec

For approximating moistureconditions of structural panels used under dry conditions

The thickness and the width of each specimen at thecritical section shall be measured to an accuracy of not lessthan 60.3 % or 0.001 in. (0.02 mm) wh

Widely varying material propertiesor deformation of loading equipment may cause failure timesto fall outside this range, requiring an adjustment of loadingrate.11.2 Measure the elapsed time from initiation of
