Summary of Test Method4.1 A 454-g (16-oz) sample is sifted through three progres-sively finer screens, and the mass fraction retained by each isdetermined, and reported in ounces (1 oz = 28.35 g).5. Significance and Use5.1 The Q

9、uebec Standard Testing Machine classifies milledchrysotile asbestos grades according to the mass fractionsretained on each screen. Specimens that are not properlyconditioned prior to testing or that have excessive moisturecontent (above 3 % in accordance with Method D 2987), orboth, may give erratic

10、 and false results.5.2 Some amphibole asbestos fibers may be classified bythis test method but a standard classification for these has notbeen established.6. Apparatus6.1 Quebec Standard Testing Machine, Model No. 2, con-forming to, and operated in accordance with, the specifica-tions5(Fig. 1).NOTE

Sampling7.1 The sampling procedure shall be in accordance withTestMethod D 2590 for chrysotile and Test Method D 3879 foramphiboles.7.2 War

17、ningsee 1.3.8. Test Specimen8.1 Mix thoroughly, and weigh accurately into the scoop ofthe balance, a 454 6 3-g (16 6 0.1-oz) representative portionof fiber free from lumps.9. Calibration and Standardization9.1 Calibrate the Quebec Standard Testing Machine at leastonce per month, prior to use.9.2 Use

18、 standard samples of known test, with fiber lengthcomparable to that of the specimens under analysis.10. Conditioning10.1 Condition the test specimens in accordance with TestMethod D 2590 or D 3879.11. Procedure11.1 Place the screen boxes and the pan on the machine,ensuring that they are lined up tr

19、ue to the platform and that theends of the boxes face the same way each time they are used.11.2 Spread the specimen in Box No. 1 of the testingmachine along its longest axis, by letting it fall loosely fromthe scoop. Hold the scoop 150 to 250 mm (6 to 10 in.) abovethe screen cloth. Take care that wh

20、en the cover of the testingmachine is closed, the fiber shall not be compressed.11.3 Start the machine and allow it to run until it stopsautomatically. Remove each box and deposit the fiber retainedin each box onto the table, in individual piles, picking up andadding the loose fiber adhering to the

21、screen cloth to thecorresponding fraction.11.4 Weigh and record separately, in ounces, the fiberrecovered from each box.12. Report12.1 Report to the nearest 3 g (0.1 oz), the fiber retained ineach box as the Quebec Standard Test of the fiber sample. Anexample of the test results on a long fiber and
