Scope1.1 This specification covers rubber-coated cloth

3、sheetingintended for use in the protection of mattresses on hospitalbeds.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard.1.3 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest methods portion, Section 9, of this specification. Materials and Manufacture

7、4.1 Materials:4.1.1 The base cloth shall be hospital sheeting woven fromcotton yarn, synthetic yarn, or a blend of cotton and syntheticyarn.4.1.2 The coating compound shall be natural rubber, syn-thetic rubber, or a mixture of natural and synthetic rubberssuitably formulated and colored with a white

8、 pigment to meetthe requirements of this specification.4.2 ManufactureThe base cloth (4.1.1) shall be coateduniformly on both sides with equal amounts of the coatingcompound (4.1.2). The coated fabric may be dusted with a talcthat does not support mildew growth. The coated cloth shall bevulcanized t

9、o meet the physical requirements of Table 1 andthe chemical requirements specified in this specification.5. Chemical Requirements5.1 Resistance to Phenol and Isopropyl AlcoholCoatedcloth shall show no evidence of softening, tackiness, harden-ing, peeling, or blistering when subjected to a 5 % phenol

10、-water solution and a 70 % isopropyl alcohol-water solution inaccordance with 9.7 and 9.8.5.2 Steam SterilizationCoated cloth shall show no evi-dence of softening, tackiness, hardening, peeling, or blisteringwhen subjected to steam sterilization in accordance with 9.10.6. Length of Roll6.1 Unless ot

11、herwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, cloth shall be furnished in rolls, 55 m (60 yd) of cloth perroll. The roll shall contain no more than three pieces and nopiece shall be less than 5.5 m (6 yd) in length.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 Coated cloth shall not have any of th

12、e following defects:7.1.1 Cuts, tears, or holes (including pinholes).7.1.1.1 Pinholes shall be detected by holding the 3-m (3-yd)samples (8.1) in front of an illuminated bulb (60 W minimum)while examining the entire area for the defects described in 7.1.7.1.2 Uncoated areas.7.1.3 Thinly coated areas

Sampling8.1 U

18、nless otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, the number of rolls from which a 3-m (3-yd) full-widthsample is to be selected should be in accordance with Table 2.Test specimens shall be prepared for the various tests from allsamples.9. Test Methods9.1 GeneralTests for coated-cloth bedd

19、ing shall conformto Test Method D751 whenever applicable.9.2 SignificanceThe phenol, alcohol, and steam-sterilization tests determine how well-coated rubber clothresists chemical deterioration and are useful in predicting howthe coated cloth will perform in actual service.9.3 Coating ThicknessDeterm

20、ine the coating thickness onthe cloth by measuring the thickness of the uncoated base clothand then the thickness of the coated cloth. The micrometer usedto measure the thickness shall have graduations not exceeding0.02 mm (0.001 in.), and the pressure exerted by the foot on thespecimen shall be 22

21、6 5 kPa (3.2 6 0.7 psi). The thickness ofthe coating shall conform to Table 1.9.4 Breaking ForceDetermine the breaking force in ac-cordance with Procedure A of Test Method D751.9.5 Adhesion TestDetermine the coating adhesionstrength in accordance with Test Method D751.9.6 Waterproofness TestTest as

22、in Specification D3393.Flex each specimen five times within 1 min by applying andreleasing a pressure of 175 6 15.0 kPa (25 6 2 psi). After thefifth flex maintain the pressure at 175 6 15.0 kPa for 5 min. Noleakage shall occur. Leakage shall be defined as the appearanceof water at one or more spots

23、in the test area.9.7 Phenol Resistance Test:9.7.1 Cut a specimen 150 mm (6 in.) square from the testsample (7.1), immerse in a 5 % phenol-water solution, and holdfor 166 6 1hat236 2C (73.4 6 3.6F). Wash the specimenwith soap and water and rinse with water. Blot the washedspecimen dry with filter pap

24、er or other absorbent material priorto the 5 % phenol-solution immersion. The container shall belarge enough to allow the liquid to circulate freely. Cover thecontainer tightly to prevent excessive evaporation of the liquid.9.7.2 At the end of immersion period, remove the specimenfrom the solution,

25、rinse with water, and dry with a suitableabsorbent material. Prior to examining the specimen forevidence of softening, tackiness, hardening, peeling, or blister-ing, allow the sample to rest for 2 h.9.8 Alcohol Resistance Test:9.8.1 Cut a specimen 150 mm (6 in.) square from the testsample (7.1), was

26、h with soap and water, rinse, and dry with asuitable absorbent material, such as filter paper. Place thespecimen in a glass container and cover with a 70/30 %isopropyl alcohol-water-solution at 23 6 2C (73.4 6 3.6F)for 22 614 h. Cover the container tightly to prevent evapora-tion.9.8.2 At the end of

27、 the immersion period, remove thespecimen from solution, rinse with water, and dry with asuitable absorbent material. Examine the specimen for anyevidence of softening, tackiness, hardening, peeling, or blister-ing.9.9 Accelerated Aging TestCut a specimen 200 by 100mm (8 by 4 in.) from the test samp

28、le (7.1) and place in an aircirculating oven that conforms to Test Method D573 main-tained at 70 6 1C (158 6 2F) for seven days. Aftercompletion of the aging, the specimen shall not have becomestiff, brittle, tacky, or discolored.9.10 Steam Sterilization Test:9.10.1 Cut a specimen 300 mm (12 in.) sq

29、uare from the testsample (7.1). Fold the specimen once to give a rectangle 300by 150 mm (12 by 6 in.) and fold again to give a square 150mm (6 in.).9.10.2 Wrap the specimen in four or five layers of cottongauze or cheesecloth and suspend or place the sample on aperforated shelf in the steam chamber.

30、 Admit the steam to thechamber at a rate that will raise the temperature within 5 minto 125 6 2C (257.8 6 3.6F). At this temperature the steamin the chamber shall not contain more than 1 volume of air per1000 volumes of steam. Start the sterilization period at the timethe chamber reaches the require

31、d temperature. The specimenshall remain at the required temperature for 20 612 min.At theend of the sterilization period, remove the specimen fromchamber and allow to cool for 20 min at room temperature.Repeat the steaming and cooling cycling a total of five times.At the end of the fifth cycle, cool

In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing.11. Certification11.1 When spe

35、cified in the purchase order or contract, aproducers or suppliers certification shall be furnished to thepurchaser that the material was manufactured, sampled, tested,and inspected in accordance with this specification and hasbeen found to meet the requirements. When specified in thepurchase order o

36、r contract, a report of the test results shall befurnished.12. Product Marking12.1 Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchaseorder, cloth shall be marked on a label or tag with themanufacturers name or trademark and the dimensions.13. Packaging13.1 Unless otherwise specified in the contr

37、act or purchaseorder, the coated cloth shall be protected for shipment andstorage in accordance with the manufacturers standard prac-tice.14.
