Scope*1.1 This cla

3、ssification system covers unfilled and reinforcedpolycarbonate and polycarbonate copolymer materials suitablefor injection molding, blow molding, and extrusion. Some ofthese compositions may also find use for compression moldingor application from solution. This classification system allowsfor the u

4、se of recycled materials provided that all specificationrequirements are met.1.2 The properties in this classification system are thoserequired for identifying the compositions covered. Other re-quirements necessary for identifying particular characteristicsimportant to specific applications are nor

5、mally specified byusing the suffixes in accordance with Section 5.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard. No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.4 This classification system and subsequent line callout(specification) are intended to provide a means of c

6、alling outplastic materials used in the fabrication of end items or parts.It is not intended for the selection of materials. Materialselection should be made by those having expertise in theplastic field only after consideration of the design and theperformance required of the part, the environment

The properties ofthese materials are specified using Tables A, B, or R as theyapply.4.2 Reinforced, pigmented, filled, and lubricated versions ofpolycarbonate materials are classified in accordance withTables PC

36、and A, B, or R. Table PC is used to specify basicmaterials. Table A or B is used to specify the propertyrequirements after the addition of reinforcement, pigments,fillers, or lubricants at the nominal level indicated (see 4.2.1).Table R is used for recycled materials.4.2.1 Asingle letter is used to

40、erials shall be shown by a six-character designation that will consist of the letter A or B andthe five digits comprising the cell numbers for the propertyrequirements in the order in which they occur in Table A or B.4.2.2.1 Although the values listed in Tables A and B arenecessary to include the ra

41、nge of properties available inexisting materials, users should not infer that every possiblecombination of the properties exists or can be obtained.4.2.3 When the grade of the basic material is not shown, oris not important, a “0” grade classification shall be used forreinforced materials in this sy

42、stem.NOTE 4An example of this classification system for reinforcedpolycarbonate material is as follows: the designation PC0110G10A22230indicates:PC0110 = general-purpose polycarbonate from Table PC,G10 = glass reinforced at nominal 10 % level,A = Table A property requirements,2 = 60-MPa tensile stre

44、ion of special materials whereTable PC or Table A do not reflect the required properties.Table B shall be used in the same manner as Table A.NOTE 5The mechanical properties of polycarbonates can be affectedby the amounts and types of additives and colorants used. The most oftenobserved effect is a c

45、hange in the ductility of the material as evidenced inreductions of up to 90 % in Izod impact strength and 25 % or more intensile elongation. A classification using Table PC and Table B should beused if properties of pigmented or specially formulated polycarbonatesneed to be specified.NOTE 6An examp

47、Izod impact strength, min,2 = 105C deflection temperature, min, and0 = unspecified.NOTE 7The short- and long-term mechanical properties of polycar-bonate materials can be affected adversely by their prior processing aswell as end-use exposure to chemicals, weathering, and secondaryfinishing steps. E

48、fforts to reuse materials may include direct feedback intothe system from which they are generated, or they could involve isolationfor reuse at other times into other processes or parts. Most manufacturersliterature contains recommendations regarding direct feedback practices toaid the user in maint

49、aining the properties of the original materials as muchas possible. When polycarbonate resins are isolated and reprocessed inconjunction with fillers, additives, colorants, etc., there is a special riskthat the properties of the final products may not be equal to those obtainedwhen “virgin” resins are used. While the test specimen properties calledout in this classification system may be used to screen these materials, theuser should take precautions to ensure that parts made from thesematerials meet the
