10、1 GeneralThis specification covers machine-madereinforced-thermosetting-resin flanges defined by type (methodof manufacture), grade (generic type of resin), class (configu-ration of joining system), and pressure rating. Flanges com-plying with this specification are also given numerical classi-ficat

11、ions relating to rupture pressure, sealing test pressure, andbolt torque limit.4.1.1 Types:4.1.1.1 Type 1Filament-wound flanges manufactured bywinding continuous fibrous glass strand roving or roving tape,either preimpregnated or impregnated during winding, into aflange cavity under controlled tensi

Thisjoining method provides an interference fit at the bottom of thesocket.4.1.3.4 Class 4Straight adhesive joint flange manufac-tured with an untapered socket for use with a pipe or fittingwith an untapered spigot and a suitable adhesive. This jointprovides no interference fit.4.1.4 Pressure Ra

20、tingPressure rating shall be categorizedby a single letter designation. Pressure designations are shownin Table 1.4.1.5 Rupture pressure, sealing test pressure, and bolt torquelimit shall be categorized by single arabic number designationsas indicated by the cell classification system of Table 2.4.2

21、 Designation CodeThe flange designation code shallconsist of the abbreviation RTR, followed by the type, grade,and class in arabic numerals, the pressure rating category as acapital letter, and three arabic numbers identifying the cellclassification designations of the rupture pressure, sealing test

22、pressure, and the bolt torque limit, respectively. Thus, acomplete flange designation code shall consist of three letters,three numerals and one letter, and three numerals.4.2.1 ExampleRTR-112C-334. This designation describesa filament-wound, glass fiber-reinforced epoxy resin flangewith a taper to

23、taper adhesive joining system. The flange has a150 psi (1.40 MPa) pressure rating, a burst pressure in excessof 600 psi (4.1 MPa), a sealing test pressure of 225 psi (1.6MPa), and a bolt torque limit greater than 75 lbfft (102 Nm).NOTE 3Flanges with identical classification from different manufac-tu

24、rers may not be interchangeable due to nonstandardization of pipe orsocket diameter, socket length, taper angle, or combination thereof.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Flanges manufactured in accordance with this specifi-cation shall be composed of reinforcement imbedded in orsurrounded by cured the

25、rmosetting resin. The composite struc-ture may contain granular or platelet fillers, thixotropic agents,pigments, or dyes.5.2 The resins, reinforcements, and other materials, whencombined as composite structure, shall produce a flange thatwill meet the performance requirements of this specification.

Performance Requirements6.1 The following performance requirements are intended toprovide classification and performance criteria for the purposeof qualification testing and rating of prototype constructionsand periodic reevaluation of the manufacturers stated ratings.They are not intended as rou

27、tine quality assurance require-ments for production runs of rated flanges.6.2 Flanges shall meet the following performance require-ments when joined for testing according to the manufacturersrecommended practice for field installation:6.2.1 SealingFlanges shall withstand a pressure of at least1.5 ti

28、mes the rated design pressure without leakage when testedin accordance with 10.4.6.2.2 Short-Term Rupture StrengthFlanges shall with-stand a hydrostatic load of at least four times their rated designpressure without damage to the flange when tested in accor-dance with 10.5.6.2.3 Bolt TorqueFlanges s

29、hall withstand, without visiblesign of damage, a bolt torque of at least 1.5 times thatrecommended by the manufacturer for sealing of the flange atits rated pressure when tested in accordance with 10.6.7. Content Requirements Content Requirements7.1 Recycled or Reprocessed Thermosetting PlasticsFlan

30、ges shall not contain any recylced or reprocessed thermo-setting plastics which might otherwise be added as fillers.8. Dimensions8.1 Dimensions and Tolerances:8.1.1 Flange and Bolt DimensionsFlanges of 24 in. (610mm) or smaller diameter shall conform to the values given inTable 3 for bolt circle, nu

31、mber and size of bolt holes, andoutside diameter. Flanges larger than 24 in. (610 mm) indiameter shall conform to the values for bolt circle, numberand size of bolt holes, and outside diameter for Class 125 castiron flanges in ANSI B 16.1. The tolerance for the flangedimensions provided in Table 3 s

34、or a diametral constriction to act as a stopduring adhesive joining so that the pipe stub cannot projectbeyond the face of the flange.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 Flanges shall be free as commercially practical ofdefects, including indentations, delaminations, bubbles, pin-holes, foreig

35、n inclusions, and resin-starved areas.10. Test Methods10.1 ConditioningWhen conditioning is required, and inall cases of disagreement, condition the test specimens at 73.46 3.6F (23 6 2C) and 50 6 5 % relative humidity for notless than 40 h prior to test, in accordance with Procedure A ofPractice D

36、618.10.2 Test ConditionsThe tests may be conducted at am-bient temperature and humidity conditions. When controlledenvironment testing is specified, tests shall be conducted in theStandard Laboratory Atmosphere of 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C)and 50 6 5 % relative humidity. When elevated temperaturetesting

37、is specified, the tests shall be conducted at the designoperating temperature 65.4F (3C).10.3 Dimensions and TolerancesFlange dimensions shallbe measured with a micrometer of vernier calipers, or othersuitable measuring devices accurate to within 60.001 in.(60.02 mm). Diameters shall be determined b

38、y averaging aminimum of four measurements, equally spaced circumferen-tially.10.4 SealingFlanged components in general arrangementwith Fig. 1 shall be bolted together using the gasket and bolttorque recommended for standard field installation by theflange manufacturer. The assembly shall then be pre

39、ssuretested and be required to hold the test pressure for a period of168 hours without leakage. Retorquing to the manufacturersspecified level after initial pressurization is permitted.10.5 Short-Term Rupture StrengthFlanged componentsshall be tested in accordance with Test Method D 1599 withfree-en

40、d closure except as herein noted. The pressure in thespecimen shall be increased until failure of the flange occurs.Pressure testing in an atmospheric environment is permissible.Minimum failure time shall be 60 s; no restriction shall beplaced on maximum time-to-failure. Leaking past the gasketinter

41、face is permissible during this test. 48、the gasket and hard-ware recommended by the flange manufacturer, bolt the flangeagainst a flat face steel flange. Tighten the nuts by hand untilthey are snug. Prior to fit-up, the nuts, bolts, and washersshould be well lubricated, using a nonfluid thread lubricant.Establish uniform pressure over the

49、 flange face by tighteningbolts in 5 lbfft (7 Nm) increments according to the sequenceshown in Fig. 2. For flanges with more than 20 bolts, similaralternating bolt tightening sequences shall be used. Increase thebolt torque uniformly until flange failure occurs or until allbolts have been torqued to five times the level recommendedby the manufacturer for field installation practice to establishthe bolt torque cell classification of the flange. Any sign offlange damage (crumbling, flaking, cracking,
