Scope1.1 This practice covers surface cleaning of concrete ma-sonry units to remove dust, dirt, mortar spatter, oil, and greaseprior to the ap

Procedures include vacuumcleaning, air-blast cleaning, water cleaning, detergent waterwash, steam cleaning, and mechanical cleaning.1.2 This practice may alter the surface profile of theconcrete but is primarily intended to clean the surface.1.3 This standard does not purport

4、to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use. Summary of Practice3.1 Surface cleaning is intended to provide a clean,contamination-free surface suitable for the application ofcoatings.3.2 Acceptable surfaces shall be free of dust, dirt, mortarspatter, oil, grease, and other contaminants. Mortar j

7、oints shallbe struck flush or tooled with a round jointer and shall be freeof rough edges and nibs (see ACI 531.1-76).3.3 Vacuum cleaning, air blast cleaning, water cleaning,detergent water wash, steam cleaning, hand tool, and mechani-cal cleaning are acceptable cleaning methods.3.4 Any one or a com

8、bination of listed cleaning proceduresmay be used to achieve acceptably cleaned surfaces.4. Significance and Use4.1 Surface cleaning is to be used to prepare concrete unitmasonry surfaces for applying coatings intended for light dutyservice, splash and spillage of water and chemical solutions,radiat

9、ion exposure, decontamination, and repeated washdownswith alkaline cleaners.5. Cautions5.1 Moisture in concrete unit masonry may be detrimentalto coating adhesion. Moisture content shall be in compliancewith the coating manufacturers recommendations (see TestMethod D 4263 for moisture test method).6

Procedures6.1 Steam CleaningThis procedure is intended to removeheavy deposits of grease and oil, as well as other water solublesurface contaminants and emulsifiable materials, with a jet ofhigh pressure steam, in accordance with Practice D 4258.6.2 Detergent Water WashThis procedure is intended t

11、oremove water soluble surface contaminants, oils, grease, andother emulsifiable materials with an aqueous solution ofdetergent or nonsolvent emulsifier in accordance with PracticeD 4258.6.3 Water CleaningThis procedure is intended to removedust, dirt, and water soluble contaminants with a stream ofw

12、ater under pressure, in accordance with Practice D 4258.6.4 Mechanical Tool Cleaning:6.4.1 The intent of this procedure is to remove mortarspatter, efflorescence, and similar dry, firmly adhering foreignmaterial prior to performing either cleaning operation.6.4.2 This procedure shall consist of scra

13、ping, abrading,brushing, or stoning to dislodge mortar and similar materialsfrom the surface.6.4.3 Clean in accordance with Practice D 4258 to removedust and loose particles.1This practice is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee D33 on ProtectiveCoating and Lining Work for Power Generation Facil
