3、describes a procedure and fixture usedto determine shear strengths of adhesives used to bond mate-rials with moduli higher than the modulus of the adhesive. Significance and Use5.1 This test method provides an estimate of the shearstrength of an adhesive on various machinable and nonmachin-able substrate materials. It is particularly applica

7、ble for testingbonds between ceramic, glass, magnet moldings, and plasticparts with one flat face where machining would be difficult orimpractical.6. Apparatus6.1 Testing Machine, conforming to the requirements ofPractices E4, with a capacity of not less than 44 kN (10 000lbf) in tension.6.2 Shearin

8、g Fixture Perform the tests by using a shear-ing fixture consisting of a holding block and a shearing tool(Figs. 1 and 2). The holding block can accommodate speci-mens up to 80 by 80 by 13 mm (3 by 3 by12 in.). For smallspecimens as shown in Fig. 3B, an adapter plate (Fig. 4) can beinserted into the

9、 holding block to keep the shearing bladewithin its guides and to locate the specimen under the clamp.The shearing blade can accommodate specimens up to 30 by 30by 13 mm (118 by 118 by12 in.).37. Test Specimens7.1 Test specimens can be any size within the limits of theshearing fixture capacity, as g

10、iven in 6.2. Suggested sizes are asfollows:7.1.1 Metal Blocks25by25by6mm(1by1by14 in.).7.1.2 Ferrite or Ceramic Blocks25by18by13mm(1by34 by12 in.).7.1.3 Wood or Plastic Blocks25by25by13mm(1by1by12 in.).7.1.4 Glass Plates75by75by13mm(3by3by12 in.).7.2 Prepare the adhesive and apply in accordance with

11、 therecommendations of the adhesive manufacturer. Fig. 3 shows typical specimens after bonding.7.4 Test at least five specimens for each test condition.8. Procedure8.1 Mount the shear fixture in the testing machine with the

16、holding block on top.8.2 Place the specimen in the shearing fixture in such a waythat one of the adherends is engaged by the holding block andthe other by the shearing tool (Fig. 5). Close the toggle clampon the rear of the holding block to keep the specimen locatedagainst the back face (Fig. 6). (S

17、ome adjustment of the padmay be necessary to accommodate varying specimen thick-ness.)8.3 Test the specimen using a crosshead speed of 1.26mm/min (0.05 in./min). Record the maximum force sustainedby the specimen.9. Calculation9.1 Express all bond strengths in megapascal (MPa) orpound-force per squar

Report10.1 Report the following information:10.1.1 Complete identification of the adhesive tested, in-cluding type, source, and manufacturers code numbers.10.1.2 Complete identification of the adherends used, in-cluding dimensions and orientation in the test fixture, and themethod o

19、f cleaning and preparing the surfaces prior to bond-ing.10.1.3 Quantitative application and bonding conditionsused.10.1.4 Average thickness of adhesive layer after formationof bond, within 0.2 mm, and the means of measurement.10.1.5 Sample conditioning and environmental exposure.10.1.6 The temperatu
