、tandards of Paint Roller Spatter43. Summary of Test Method3.1 The test paint is applied to a black plastic panel bydraw-down. The coated plastic panel is immediately mountedon an essentially vertical surface above a sheet of paper used tocatch any spatter. A specially designed notched spool roller(s

、ee 5.1) is rolled through the film following a definedprocedure, tending to generate spatter. Any spatter falls uponthe spatter catch paper and, after drying, is rated against thepictorial standards.4. Significance and Use4.1 Paint spatter generated by roller application is depen-dent on the propert

、ies of both the paint being applied and thepaint roller cover used for the application. To eliminate theinfluence of the paint roller cover as a variable, and thus restrictthe spatter-inducing variable to the paint under test only, thepaint roller cover is replaced by a standard notched spool roller

、to generate spatter by a mechanism that simulates that of apaint-applying roller cover.4.2 Although most of the development work to establish thistest method was undertaken using latex paints, sufficient workwas also done to show its applicability to solvent-reduciblepaints.4.3 Tests during the deve

、evel:10.1.1 RepeatabilityIntralaboratory precision is normallybetter than interlaboratory precision. However, when rating isinvolved, it is difficult to establish reliability because of thenatural tendency for bias when operators know the samematerial is being tested again.NOTE 2When the results wer

This might not occur if some paints with lessdistinct differences in spattering properties were included in a similarstudy.10.1.2 ReproducibilityTwo results obtained by operatorsin different laboratories should be considered suspect if they
