Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 soft window coverings, ncurtains, draperies, or otheraccessories on

8、wall or window openings that are either lined orunlined and primarily constructed of textile fabrics.3.1.1.1 DiscussionWashable soft window coverings in-clude those that can be refurbished by any procedure in whichthe cleaning solvent is water. Drycleanable soft windowcoverings include those that sh

9、ould be refurbished by anyprocedure in which the cleaning solvent is primarily nonaque-ous and used in drycleaning.3.2 For definitions of textile terms used in this specificationrefer to Terminology D123 and Terminology D3136.4. Significance and Use4.1 This specification may be used to evaluate pert

10、inentperformance characteristics of washable and drycleanable softwindow coverings, whether lined or unlined.4.1.1 Soft window covering characteristics to be evaluatedprior to repeated refurbishing include, but are not limited to,seam strength and appearance, uniformity of shade (part topart), and s

11、ize consistency (side to side and part to part).4.1.2 Soft window covering characteristics to be evaluatedafter repeated refurbishing include, but are not limited to,colorfastness, dimensional change, seam strength, appearance,and compatibility of components. Compatibility of dimen-sional change bet

12、ween drapery fabric and lining should benoted.4.2 The specified home laundry machine settings do notreflect advances in cycle design or special features of washerand dryers which enhance the performance of these products.The standard washing and drying procedure reflects the mini-mum capabilities of

13、 current home laundering equipment usedby consumers in accordance with care label instructions.4.2.1 The reproducibility of the results of the test methodspecified in 9.2 depends on the use of procedures for automatichome laundering as specified on care labels.1This specification is under the jurisd

Sampling, Selection, and Number of Specimens5.1 Division into LotsFor acceptance testing, divide theproduct into lots as agreed upon by the purchaser and thesupplier.5.2 Lot SampleAs a lot sample for acceptance testing, takeat

18、 random the number of shipping cartons directed in anapplicable material specification or other agreement betweenthe purchaser and the supplier. Consider shipping cartons ofcurtains or draperies to be the primary sampling units.NOTE 1A realistic specification or other agreement between thepurchaser

19、and the supplier requires taking into account the variabilitybetween shipping cartons, between items within a carton, and betweenspecimens within an item so as to provide a sampling plan which has ameaningful producers risk, consumers risk, acceptable quality level, andlimiting quality level.5.3 Lab

20、oratory SampleAs a laboratory sample for accep-tance testing, take two random items from each shipping cartonin the lot sample.5.4 Test SpecimensTake test specimens from each item inthe laboratory sample as directed in the individual test meth-ods. Perform each test on the product as it will reach t

21、heconsumer.CHARACTERISTICS AND TEST METHODS6. Characteristics6.1 The areas to be evaluated and the criteria assigned tothose areas shall be set by mutual agreement between pur-chaser and supplier.7. Fabric Performance Characteristics7.1 The fabric in the item shall be evaluated as directed inSpecifi

22、cation D3691.8. Product Performance Characteristics Prior toRefurbishing8.1 Seam performance shall be evaluated as directed in TestMethod D1683 (for woven) or Test Method D3940 (for knit)and in AATCC Method 88B, as appropriate.8.2 Mark and record measurements as directed in Section 11of this specifi

23、cation to establish size consistency, side to sideand part to part, and as a basis for determining dimensionalchanges.8.3 Examine the soft window coverings for unacceptableshade difference from part to part, using a commerciallyavailable laboratory light source as agreed upon by purchaserand supplie

24、r.8.4 Examine soft window coverings for any other pertinentdefects.9. Refurbishing Conditions9.1 Laundering:9.1.1 Launder soft window coverings as directed inAATCCMethod 135 as in the permanently attached care label instruc-tions. Use laundering temperatures as directed in AATCCMethod 135.9.1.2 Any

25、domestically available detergent, as agreed uponby purchaser and supplier, may be used.9.1.3 When chlorine bleach is to be used, introduce one cupof any liquid chlorine household bleach containing 5.25 %sodium hypochlorite (5 % available chlorine) into the washerin the manner directed on the bleach

26、container. When testingwith non-chlorine bleach is indicated, introduce it into thewasher in the amount and manner directed on the bleachcontainer.9.1.4 Dry items following care label instructions or asdirected in AATCC Method 135.9.1.5 When ironing is to be done, follow the methodindicated on the c

27、are label or as directed in AATCCMethod 135.9.1.6 Repeat the complete cycle four more times or asagreed upon by purchaser and supplier.9.2 Drycleaning:9.2.1 Dryclean soft window coverings as directed inAATCC Method 158 or in the permanently attached care labelinstructions.9.2.2 Repeat the procedure

28、two or more times as agreedupon by purchaser and supplier.10. Soft Window Coverings Performance CharacteristicsAfter Refurbishing10.1 Remeasure as directed in Section 11. Record measure-ments and calculate dimensional change using measurementspreviously obtained in 8.2. Dimensional change may beexpr

29、essed as a percentage using the following equation:D 5 100 A 2 B!/Bwhere:D = dimensional change, %,B = measurement before refurbishing, mm (in.), andA = measurement of same dimension after refurbishing, mm(in.).NOTE 2A negative dimensional change indicates shrinkage andpositive dimensional change in

30、dicates growth.10.2 Examine soft window coverings for unacceptableshade difference from part to part, as directed in 8.3 and for anyother pertinent defects after refurbishing as directed in 8.4.10.3 Evaluate soft window coverings for appearance of allseams in accordance with AATCC Method 88B. Accept

31、ableperformance requirements should be as agreed between pur-chaser and supplier.10.4 Evaluate durable press items for appearance as directedin AATCC Method 143. Acceptable performance requirementsshould be by agreement between purchaser and supplier.10.5 Examine soft window coverings for any other

32、pertinentdefects.11. Measuring Soft Window Coverings11.1 Expose the item to standard textile conditions for atleast 4 h.D4720 08 (2013)211.2 When necessary, mark the dimension to be measuredwith a suitable marking device.11.3 Unless otherwise set by mutual agreement betweenpurchaser and supplier, ma

33、ke original measurement marks atthe locations according to Fig. 1, as follows:11.3.1 Measure length of soft window coverings at eachside of each panel, and in the middle of the panel, includingruffles, flounces and trims. Measure each panel separately(AA,Fig. 1).11.3.2 Measure width of soft window c

34、overings at top,middle, and bottom (if it is a pinch pleated item, then measurethe heading only, including all ruffles, flounces and trims).Measure each panel separately (B B, Fig. 1).11.3.3 Mark the inner edge of ruffle or flounce whereattached to item with 25-cm (10-in.) or 91.4-cm (36-in.) gagema

35、rks (D D, Fig. 1). Permitting all fullness to remain, markthe outer edge of the ruffle or flounce with corresponding gagemarks (E, Fig. 1). Measure the full fabric width betweensecond set of gage marks (E E, Fig. 1).11.3.4 On one panel of fabric, excluding ruffles andflounces, on both face and back

36、of the product, mark off witha suitable marking device, three 25-cm (10-in.) gage marksparallel to the length of the fabric, and three 25-cm (10-in.)gage marks parallel to the width of the fabric to the nearest0.25 cm (0.1 in.). Each set of the gage marks must be at least5.0 cm (2 in.) from all edge

37、s of the panel and approximately 12cm (5 in.) apart. Bench marks of 50 cm (20 in.) are commonlyused to facilitate better precision of measuring, so use thismeasurement if the product is large enough.NOTE 3When actual length and width measurements are made, thetolerances shall be to the nearest 1 mm

38、(116 in.). When gage marks areused, the measurement tolerances should be supplied by the gagemanufacturer. See Test Methods D3773.REPORTING AND CONFORMANCE12. Report12.1 State that the specimens were tested as directed inPractice D4720. Describe the type of fabrics and the type ofitems tested and re

39、port the following information.12.1.1 Objective of the test.12.1.2 Description and identification of product(s).12.1.3 Method of sampling.12.1.4 Number of specimens tested.12.1.5 List of performance characteristics evaluated and theresults of each.12.1.6 Specifics of any departures from a standard t

40、estmethod agreed upon by the purchaser and the supplier.12.1.7 Conclusion, if appropriate.13. Conformance13.1 When the purchaser and supplier have agreed uponspecific requirements for the characteristics that are to beconsidered, soft window coverings that fail to meet theserequirements may be rejec

41、ted. Rejection should be reported tothe supplier in writing. In case of disagreement with results ofthe test, the supplier may make claim for a retest.14.
