3、cification covers mixtures of emul-sified coal-tar pitch (mineral colloid type), mineral aggregates,and optional polymeric admixtures that are used as a weather-protective and straight aliphatic hydrocarbon resistant coatingsover bituminous pavements of airports, parking areas, anddriveways.1.2 The

The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Materials3.1 Ratios of component materials that make up the mixtureto be tested, as well as detailed specifications for the mineralaggregate and optiona
9、l polymeric admixture shall be as agreedupon between the purchaser and the seller.3.2 The base coal-tar emulsion shall meet the requirementsof Specification D5727/D5727M.3.3 The mineral aggregate shall be either a natural ormanufactured product composed of clean, hard, durable, un-coated particles,
10、free from dirt, organic matter, and otherobjectionable substances.3.4 The optional polymeric admixture shall be any polymeror mixtures thereof, with added compounding ingredients ofsuch nature and quality that will allow the admixture to becompatible with and enhance the performance of mineralaggreg
11、ate modified coal-tar emulsion pavement sealers.3.5 The water used in mixing shall be potable and free fromharmful soluble salts. The temperature of the water shall be atleast 10C 50F.4. Physical Requirements4.1 The mixture as applied shall be of uniform consistencyand suitable for application to pr
12、operly prepared or primedsurfaces at a rate of 0.4 to 1.0 L/m21.0 to 2.5 gal/100 ft2without appreciable drainage on inclines up to 0.8 % 0.1in./ft.NOTE 1Pavement and ambient temperature should be not less than7C 45F at the time of application and for at least 12 h thereafter, withno precipitation of

21、actualspecified field application rates and performance.6.4.1 Apply mixture in two coats using a brass mask 1.6 mm464 in. in thickness for the first coat and 3.2 mm 864 in. forthe second coat. Leave the mask in place for the 96-h dryingtime. After removing the first mask, position the second maskcar
22、efully around the first coat before pouring the second.Doctor the second coat even with the top of the mask using aspatula or other straight edge.6.4.2 Cure each coat for 96 h in agitated air at 25 6 1C 776 2F and at 50 6 10 % relative humidity.6.4.3 After curing, affix metal ring to surface of coat
23、ing.Because of the textured surface of the coating, the ring must besealed to the dry second coat with a silicone rubber sealant.6.4.4 Fill the metal ring with kerosine. The kerosine shallcomply with Specification D3699. Expose the coating tokerosine for 24 h before evaluating. Remove the kerosine f
24、romthe ring and blot dry and immediately examine the film forsoftness and loss of adhesion. Immediately after this filmexamination, break the tile in half exposing that part of the tilewhose film was subjected to the kerosine. No evidence ofleakage of the kerosine, loss of adhesion, or discoloration
25、 ofthe tile shall be visible.6.5 Resistance to WaterPrepare a cured film panel asdescribed in 6.4.1 and 6.4.2. Test the cured film as described in6.4.3 and 6.4.4 but using distilled water in place of kerosine.After 24 h of exposure to water, check for reemulsification.Remove the water, break the til
26、e, and immediately check forblistering and loss of adhesion.NOTE 4The film thickness and procedures specified are useful onlyfor determining the performance of the coating under test relative topreviously acceptable standards and are not meant to duplicate actualspecified field application rates and
27、 performance.6.6 FlexibilityUse the same test panel that was used forthe heat test (6.3). After the removal from the oven, conditionthe test panel in air at 25 6 2C for 1 h and then bend it throughan arc of 180, over a 1-in. 25.4-mm mandrel, in approxi-mately 2 s, with the metal next to the mandrel
28、when the bendis made. Immediately after bending, while the panel is still overthe mandrel, examine the coating by normal vision forcracking, flaking, and loss of adhesion. Ignore small, hairlinesurface cracks that do not extend to the metal.7. Inspection7.1 Inspection of component materials shall be
29、 made asagreed upon between the purchaser and the seller as part of thepurchase contract.8. Rejection and Resubmittal8.1 Failure to conform to any of the requirements prescribedin this specification shall constitute grounds for rejection. Incase of rejection, the supplier shall have the right to rei

INTRODUCTIONX1.1 Coal-tar emulsions have historically been used assealants for asphalt pavements to protect them against water,petroleum derivatives, and weather. Since the mid-1960s theuse of mineral agg
33、regates with sealer has become more andmore popular as a method of repairing minor surface imper-fections while at the same time increasing durability and skidresistance. The performance of aggregate/pavement sealermixtures has also been enhanced with the use of polymericadmixtures.X1.2 Sealants pre
34、pared in this manner, however, have notbeen trouble free. Failures have occurred due to deficiencies inone or more of the following characteristics: fuel resistance,adhesion to substrate, weatherability, and flexibility of theapplied film.X1.3 This specification has been developed to minimizefailure
35、s of this type. It specifies that coatings modified withmineral aggregates, with or without polymeric admixtures,meet the minimum performance requirements of coal-tar pitchemulsion pavement sealer as specified in Specification D5727/D5727M.ASTM International takes no position respecting the validity
