A superscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This practice covers the procedure for preparation of hotrecycled bituminous blends for te

3、sting in the laboratory. Theprocedure involves an iterative trial blend process followed bythe preparation of batch blends.1.2 The batch blends can be used for extensive evaluationsuch as viscosity, penetration, ductility, aging properties (suchas Rolling Thin Film Oven or Thin-Film Oven tests, or b

4、oth(RTFO/TFO), composition analysis, solubility analysis, andother user-selected tests.1.3 This practice assumes that a representative reclaimedasphalt pavement (RAP) sample is extracted and the agedbinder recovered using Test Methods D2172 and Test MethodD1856 (this practice may be modified by usin

5、g a rotaryevaporator which is extensively evaluated in the minutes of the18th Pacific Coast Conference on Asphalt Specifications2)orany other acceptable test method.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system

6、may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Summary of Practice3.1 This specification covers the use of a viscosity blendingchart shown in Fig. 1 or by a Perfor

10、mance Grade (PG)temperature blending chart shown in Fig. 2 to determine thepercentage of a recycling agent, rejuvenating agent orpavinggrade- asphalt (hereafter referred to as virgin modifier)required to meet the target viscosity or PG temperature. Theblending chart based on viscosity is based upon

11、results fromD2171 compared to the limits of D3381. The PG blendingchart is based upon the results from D6816 and D7175 whichare compared to the limits of D6373. The procedure consists ofdetermining the asphalt binder grade of reclaimed asphaltbinder (hereafter referred to as RAM binder), estimating

12、theblend by graphical methods and preparing a blend of virginmodifier and the RAM binder in the laboratory. The measuredproperties of the blend are compared to the target values. Significance and Use4.1 A standard procedure for blend preparation is essentialto ensure material

26、quality, specification compliance, and pro-cedural uniformity.5. Apparatus5.1 Beakers, 50-mL, 600-mL capacity or other suitablecontainers.5.2 Hot plate.5.3 Glass stirring rod.6. Procedure6.1 Weigh the RAP binder and recycling agent or paving-grade-asphalt in appropriate proportions in accordance wit

27、h 3.1in a 10.0 6 0.1-g specimen or larger for a trial blend. Preparethe 10.0 6 0.1-g trial blend in the 50-mL container whilepreparing a larger batch (if required) in the 600-mL containeror other suitable containers.NOTE 4For ease of handling during proportioning, the RAP binderand recycling agent o

28、r paving grade asphalt may be frozen (6 6 1F issuggested) for 1 to 2 h.Aromatic oils may not require freezing. The frozenstate facilitates chipping and weighing the desired quantities with relativeease. Weighing should be executed quickly because cold specimens mayattract moisture especially in humi

29、d environments that may result inbubbly action during heating.6.2 Place the container with the 10.0 6 0.1-g target blendsample on a hot plate at 93 to 121C (200 to 250F) andcontinually stir by hand using a glass rod until the materialbecomes fluid. Place the container with the sample in an ovenat 13

30、5C (275F) for 10 min and stir for 30-s durations at5-min intervals. Transfer the sample to viscosity tubes forviscosity testing at 60C (140F) as prescribed in Test MethodD2171. Repeat the procedure until the desired viscosity isachieved.6.3 Once the desired viscosity is achieved, prepare a batchblen

31、d sample. About 200 g is normally sufficient. Weigh in a600-mL container and place in a 135C (275F) oven and stir,using a glass rod, for 1 min at every 10-min interval until themixture melts. After the material is thoroughly melted, keep itin the oven for another 30 min while stirring for 1 min at e

32、very5-min interval. Remove the batch blend sample from the ovenfor subsequent testing.NOTE 5Larger quantities of blended material may be prepared bycombining two or more 200.0 6 0.1-g batch blends. Alternatively, singlelarge batches may be made provided uniform mixing is achieved.6.4 The batch blend

33、 prepared in 6.3 can be divided intosmaller quantities for physical or chemical tests to meet thevarious test requirements of the investigator.7. Report7.1 The report shall include the following information:7.1.1 The target blend viscosity,7.1.2 The type of materials blended and the viscosity ofeach

34、 component material at 60C (140F),7.1.3 The proportions of the blended materials, and7.1.4 The properties of the batch blend if the latter is made.8.
