Terminology3.1 DefinitionsFor definitions of terms used in this speci-fication, refer to Terminology D 1079.3.2 Definitions of Terms
7、Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 net dry massthe mass of the coal tar impregnatedglass felt exclusive of wrapping and packing material, afterdrying to constant weight and after removing all detachedcomminuted surfacing material as described in 8.2.4. Classification4.1 Coal tar impregnated glass felt
8、covered by this specifi-cation is of one type.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 The felt shall be a thin, porous sheet of uniformlydistributed glass fibers, with or without the addition of rein-forcing stranded glass yarns, and bonded with a water-resistantresinous binder.5.2 In the process of manufac
9、ture, the felt shall be impreg-nated with coal-tar which shall be permitted to contain amineral stabilizer so that the individual glass fibers are coatedand the coal tar is evenly distributed throughout.5.3 The impregnated glass felt shall be surfaced lightly witha suitable finely comminuted materia
10、l to prevent sticking in theroll. The nature and quantity of the surfacing material shall notinterfere with adhesion between the plies of a membrane.6. Physical Properties, Dimensions, and Masses6.1 The material shall conform to the physical properties,dimensions, and masses prescribed in Tables 1 a
11、nd 2.6.2 The finished product shall not crack nor be so sticky asto cause tearing or other damage upon being unrolled attemperatures between 10 and 60C (50 and 140F).6.3 After extraction of the coal-tar in accordance withSection 16 of Test Methods D 146, the desaturated felt shallremain flat and unb
12、uckled, shall retain its original shape anddimensions, and individual fibers shall remain firmly set inplace.6.4 The pliability specimen shall be conditioned in air at 256 1C (77 6 2F) for at least 1 h and tested in a roommaintained at the same temperature (immersion in water notrequired). Otherwise
13、, follow Test Methods D 146, 14.1 insection on Pliability.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 The finished material shall be uniformly impregnatedwith coal tar of uniform thickness, and shall be free of visibledefects such as ragged or untrue edges, breaks, cracks, tears1This specification is

Individual holes up to 6.3 mm (14 in.) in diameter shall bepermitted, provided that no more than five such holes are foundin
17、 any 1 m2(1 yd2) of felt.8. Sampling and Test Methods8.1 Sample the material and determine the properties enu-merated in this specification in accordance with Test MethodsD 146, except for the net dry mass of coal tar impregnatedglass felt.8.2 Net Dry Mass of Coal Tar Coated Glass FeltsCut arepresen
18、tative sample from the full width of each sample roll asdescribed in Section 10 of Test Methods D 146. Suspend thesamples vertically and allow them to dry to a constant weightin a laboratory atmosphere of 23 6 2C (73.4 6 3.6F).Remove the detached comminuted surfacing as described inSection 11 of Tes
19、t Methods D 146. Then weigh each sample offelt and calculate the individual and average net dry mass perunit area.8.3 AshDetermine ash by ignition at 538 6 14C (1000 625F) for not less than 10 min.9. Inspection9.1 InspectionInspection shall be in accordance with therequirements of this specification
20、.9.2 Inspection AlternativesAlternative inspection require-ments shall be determined by and as agreed upon between thepurchaser and the supplier.10. Rejection and Resubmittal10.1 Failure to ConformFailure to conform to any of therequirements as stated in this specification constitutes groundsfor rej
21、ection.10.2 Rejection RedressThe supplier shall have the right toinspect the rejected materials. The supplier and the purchasershall agree to the quantity of rolls deemed unacceptable. Thesupplier shall then have the right to submit the same number ofnew rolls as replacement.11. Packaging and Packag
22、e Marking11.1 Unless otherwise agreed upon between the supplier andpurchaser, each product package shall be plainly marked withthe suppliers name, the product brand, the ASTM designation,and type of bitumen if not evident in the label name of theproduct.11.2 The rolls shall be securely wrapped or ba
23、nded in amanner that completely encircles the roll and will preventslipping or unrolling.11.3 No roll shall contain more than two pieces, and nomore than 3 % of the rolls in any lot shall contain two pieces.If a roll contains a manufacturing splice, the splice shall beclearly marked.12.
