Summary of Test Method4.1 This test method consists of sealing the test specimenwith or against one face of a test chamber, supply

10、ing air to orexhausting air from the chamber at a rate required to maintaina specific air pressure across the specimen for a specific timeperiod.After removal of the pressure, the specimen is observedfor failure, and the nature of any failure established. At themanufacturers option, reapply test pre

11、ssure in increments untilfailure occurs, to measure ultimate pressure.5. Significance and Use5.1 This test method is a standard procedure for determiningwindload resistance of rigid plastic siding under specifieduniform static pressure difference. This typically is intended torepresent the effects o

12、f wind loads on exterior building sur-faces. The actual loading on building surfaces is quite complex,varying with wind direction, time, height above ground,building shape, terrain, surrounding structures, and other fac-tors.5.2 Design wind pressure is selected for specific geographi-cal locations f

13、rom wind velocity maps prepared by the NationalWeather Service or other sources. Refer to Annex A1 ofSpecification D 3679 for additional detailed information relat-ing to use of this test method for evaluation of rigid poly(vinylchloride) (PVC) siding.1This test method is under the jurisdiction of A

Apparatus6.1 The description of apparatus is general in nature; anyequipment capable of performing the test procedure w

18、ithin theallowable tolerances is permitted.6.2 Major Components (See Fig. 1):6.2.1 Test ChamberA test chamber or box with an open-ing, a removable mounting panel, or one open side in which oragainst which the specimen is installed. Either the positive testchamber configuration or the negative test c

19、hamber configura-tion shall be used to perform this test. (See Fig. 1.) At least onestatic pressure tap shall be provided to measure the chamberpressure and shall be so located that the reading is unaffectedby the velocity of the air supply to or from the chamber or anyother air movement. The air su

20、pply opening into the chambershall be arranged so that the air does not impinge directly onthe test specimen with any significant velocity. A means ofaccess into the chamber to facilitate adjustments, observations,and measurements after the specimen has been installed ispermitted.NOTE 3The test cham

21、ber or the specimen mounting frame, or both,must not deflect under the test load in such a manner that the performanceof the specimen will be affected.6.2.2 Air SystemA controllable blower, a compressed airsupply, an exhaust system, or reversible controllable blowerdesigned to provide the required m

22、aximum air pressure differ-ence across the specimen. The system shall provide an essen-tially constant air pressure difference for the required testperiod.6.2.3 Pressure Measuring ApparatusA device to measurethe test pressure difference within a tolerance of 62%.7. Safety Precautions7.1 Take proper

23、precautions to protect the observers in theevent of any failure. At the pressures used in this test method,considerable energy and hazard are involved. In cases offailure, the hazard to personnel is less with a negative pressureconfiguration, as the specimen will tend to blow into the testchamber ra

24、ther than out. Do not permit personnel in suchchambers during tests and lockout chambers during tests.8. Test Specimens8.1 SamplingSiding samples for test specimens shall beselected at random from production stock.8.2 Prepare a test specimen frame to simulate constructionmethods that will be expecte

25、d in the field. The frame shall besized to accommodate a minimum of three stud spaces wideand a minimum of four siding panels high. Measure the nailhem thickness at a minimum of 5 locations along the nail hemprior to mounting the panel.FIG. 1 Test ChamberD 5206 06a28.2.1 Stud spacing shall have eith

26、er 16 or 24-in. (406 or 609mm) centers in accordance with the manufacturers fasteninginstructions.8.2.2 The overall height of the test specimen frame shall beadjusted for siding panels of varying height to keep thedistance between the frame and the siding at the top and bottomto a minimum and yet pr

27、ovide clearance between siding andframe. (See Fig. 1.)8.3 Apply 2-mil (0.0508 mm) maximum thickness plasticfilm between the siding and the studs or sheathing and seal itto the perimeter of the test frame. If sheathing is applied to theexterior of the studs, 2-in. (50.8 mm) minimum diameter holescent

28、ered horizontally and vertically between studs shall be cutthrough the sheathing to allow pressure application to theplastic film.8.3.1 Film application must permit full pressure load trans-fer to the siding test specimen and must not prevent movementor failure of the specimen. Apply film loosely wi

29、th extra foldsof material at each corner and at all offsets and recesses. Whenload is applied, there shall be no fillet caused by tightness ofthe plastic film.8.4 Apply a starter strip and at least four siding panels to thetest specimen frame as specified in the section on application ofhorizontal s

30、iding in Practice D 4756 (9.1).8.5 In cases where siding is not designed or configured foruse as horizontal panels, the test structure shall be modified toprovide a test exposure similar to that described in 8.2 and 8.4,with the siding installed in accordance with the manufacturersinstructions.8.6 P

31、repare six identical test specimens under uniformpreparation conditions by experienced personnel so as toprovide adequate specimens for retests or determination ofultimate test pressure (when required) in addition to static testpressure.9. Procedure9.1 Position a test specimen frame vertically or ho

32、rizontallyover the opening in the test chamber (box) so as to subject theentire test specimen to the pressure load. The orientation of thesiding face will depend upon whether a positive or negativechamber configuration is used. The test configuration shallcreate a load on the siding in the direction

33、 that would tend topull the siding off the wall.9.2 Install a filler panel in the test chamber of box openingnot covered by the specimen frame.9.3 Seal all seams in the equipment and test chamber whichcould permit pressure leakage during the test.9.4 Procedure AUse the following procedure when astat

34、ic specified pressure is to be applied to the specimens.9.4.1 Check the specimen for proper adjustment and lockoutthe chamber if human entry is possible.9.4.2 Apply a preload of 5 lbf/ft2(239.4 Pa) to the testspecimen and hold for 30 s. Release pressure difference acrossthe specimen, and allow a 1-m

35、in recovery period.9.4.3 Apply a pressure difference across the specimen inincrements of 5 lbf/ft2(239.4 Pa), holding for 30 s beforeincreasing next 5 lbf/ft2(239.4 Pa) to reach the specified fullstatic test load. Maintain the specified full static load for 1 min.9.4.4 Release the pressure differenc

36、e across the specimenand after a recovery period of not longer than 5 min, examinespecimen for failure. Record type of failure if it occurs.9.4.5 Failure of siding specimen has occurred when any ofthe following criteria are present:9.4.5.1 Siding nail tab is torn or disengaged from fastener.9.4.5.2

37、Permanent buckling of siding.9.4.5.3 Fastener withdrawal from frame.9.4.5.4 Permanent disengagement of locks.9.4.6 Test two more siding specimens as detailed in 9.4.1 to9.4.5 and record results for each specimen.9.4.7 If all three specimens pass the test at the specified fullstatic test load, the si

38、ding product passes the test. If onespecimen fails test three more specimens. When two or morespecimens of the six tested fail, the siding product fails the test.9.5 Procedure BUse this procedure when the ultimate testpressure for failure of the siding is to be determined.9.5.1 This procedure is for

39、 new specimens which have notbeen subjected to Procedure A static specified pressure test.9.5.1.1 Check the specimen for proper adjustment andlockout the chamber if human entry is possible.9.5.1.2 Apply a preload of 5 lbf/ft2(239.4 Pa) to the testspecimen and hold for 30 s. Release pressure differen

40、ce acrossthe specimen, and allow a 1-min recovery period.9.5.1.3 Apply a pressure difference across the specimen inincrements of 5 lbf/ft2(239.4 Pa), holding for 30 s beforeincreasing next 5 lbf/ft2(239.4 Pa). Continue test until failureoccurs. Record the pressure at failure as well as the mode offa

41、ilure.9.5.1.4 Test two additional specimens for failure pressuredifference as detailed in 9.5.1.1 to 9.5.1.5. Record the pressureat failure and failure mode for each sample.9.5.1.5 Average the pressure to failure for the three speci-mens and report this value as the pressure to failure of thesiding

42、product.9.5.2 Procedure for specimens which have passed Proce-dure A static specified pressure test without failure.9.5.2.1 Following completion of 9.4.4 failure examination,continue to apply pressure increasing 5-lbf/ft2(239.4 Pa)increments of pressure difference, holding for 30-s periods inaccorda

43、nce with 9.5.1.3 until failure occurs. Record the ulti-mate test pressure as well as the mode of failure.9.5.2.2 Test two additional specimens which have passedProcedure A for ultimate test pressure difference in accordancewith 9.5.2.1. Record the ultimate test pressure and failure modefor each samp

44、le.9.5.2.3 Average the ultimate test pressure for the threespecimens and report this value as the ultimate test pressure ofthe siding product.10. Report10.1 Report the following information:10.1.1 Date of the test and the report.10.1.2 Identification of the siding (manufacturer, trademark,or code, l

45、ot number, source of supply, dimensions, model type,material) and other related information.10.1.3 Specific details of test parameters including sidingnominal and measured thickness, siding style, fasteners used,number of siding spans used, stud spacing, nail slot edgeD 5206 06a3distance, average na

46、il hem thickness, type and thickness ofsheathing material, and other pertinent information. If a doublenail hem is used, the thickness of both nail hem walls shall bereported. Any deviation from the test procedure in Sections 8and 9 shall be reported.10.1.4 Detailed drawings of the test specimen, sh

47、owingdimensioned section profiles and any other pertinent details.Any deviation from the drawings or any modifications made tothe specimen to obtain the reported values shall be noted on thedrawing and in the report.10.1.5 Any deviation from the manufacturers installationinstructions or any modifica

48、tions made to the test specimen toobtain the reported values shall be noted on the installationinstructions and the test report.10.1.6 A record of visual observations made during theapplication of pressure and during the examination for failurecriteria.10.1.7 A tabulation of test pressure difference
