Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 For all terminology related to Home Furnishings seeTerminology D7023.3.1.2 The following terms are relevant to this standard:knitted fabric, shower c

18、urtain, woven fabric.3.1.3 For definitions of all other textile terms see Terminol-ogy D123.4. Significance and Use4.1 Upon mutual agreement between the purchaser and thesupplier, woven and knitted products intended for this end useshould meet all of the requirements listed in Table 1 of thisspecifi

19、cation.4.2 It is recognized that for the purposes of fashion oraesthetics the ultimate consumer of articles made from thesefabrics may find acceptable products that do not conform to allof the requirements in Table 1. Therefore, one or more of therequirements listed in Table 1 may be modified by mut

20、ualagreement between the purchaser and the seller.4.2.1 In such cases, any references to the specification shallspecify that: this product meets Specification D5378 except forthe following characteristic(s).4.3 Where no prepurchase agreement has been reachedbetween the purchaser and the supplier, an

21、d in case ofcontroversy, the requirements listed in Table 1 are intended tobe used as a guide only. As noted in 4.2, ultimate consumerdemands dictate varying performance parameters for anyparticular style.4.4 The significance and uses of particular properties andtest methods are discussed in the app

22、ropriate sections of thespecified test methods.5. Sampling5.1 Acceptance Testing LotUnless there is prior agree-ment, consider as a lot for acceptance testing all material of asingle item as a single shipment.5.2 Lot Samples and Laboratory SamplesFor acceptancetesting, take lot samples and laborator

23、y samples as directed ineach of the applicable test methods.5.3 SpecimensTake the number of specimens directed ineach of the applicable test methods. Perform the tests on theproduct as it reaches the customer. Any “partially finished” or“post-finish” fabrics should be processed in accordance withthe

24、 fabric manufacturers instructions.5.4 If the applicable test method does not specify thenumber of specimens, use the procedures in Practice D2905 todetermine the number of specimens per laboratory sample unit.Use (1) a reliable estimate of the responsibility of individualobservations on similar mat

25、erials in the users laboratory, (2) a95 % probability level, and (3) an allowable difference of 5 %of the average between the test results on laboratory samplingunits and the average for the laboratory sampling unit. Theaverage of a laboratory sampling unit is the average that wouldbe obtained by ap

26、plying the test method to all of the potentialspecimens from the laboratory sampling unit.6. Specification Requirements6.1 FabricsThe properties of fabrics for institutional andhousehold shower curtains shall conform to the specificationrequirements in Table 1.6.2 ProductThe properties to be evaluat

27、ed and the accep-tance criteria assigned to these areas shall be set by mutualagreement between purchaser and supplier.7. Testing for Household and Institutional Use7.1 Test Methods:FabricThe physical and colorfastnessproperties of the fabric in the shower curtains products shall beevaluated as dire

28、cted as follows:7.1.1 Breaking ForceDetermine the breaking force asdirected in Test Method D5034, using a constant-rate-of-extension (CRE) tensile testing machine.NOTE 2If preferred, a constant-rate-of-traverse (CRT) tensile testingmachine is permitted. There may be no overall correlation between th

29、eresults obtained with the CRT machine and the CRE machine. Conse-quently, these two breaking force testers cannot be used interchangeably.In case of controversy the CRE method shall prevail.7.1.2 Bursting Force(Knitted Fabrics Only)Determinethe bursting force of knit fabrics in the standard atmosph

30、ere fortextile testing, as described in Test Method D3786 or TestMethod D6797 as agreed between the purchaser and supplier.NOTE 3There is no overall correlation between the results obtainedwith the CRE machine equipped with a bursting attachment and thediaphragm bursting tester. Consequently, these

31、testers cannot be usedinterchangeably. In the case of controversy, the motor-driven diaphragmtester method (Test Method D3786) shall prevail.NOTE 4The precision of the bursting strength testers has not beenestablished. The methods are accordingly not recommended for accep-tance testing unless preced

32、ed by an interlaboratory check in the labora-tories of the purchaser and the seller, using randomized replicate speci-mens of the material to be evaluated.7.1.3 Dimensional ChangeDetermine the maximum di-mensional change after five launderings following permanentlyattached care label instructions, a

33、nd as directed in AATCCMethod 135 for household use or AATCC Method 96 forinstitutional use as agreed by the purchaser and the seller.7.1.3.1 The wash conditions and drying procedure shall beas specified by the seller when using AATCC Methods 135 forhousehold products or AATCC Method 96 for institut

34、ionalproducts.7.1.3.2 When chlorine bleach is to be used, introduce 1 cupof any liquid chlorine household bleach containing 5.25 %D5378 122sodium-hypochlorite (5.0 % available chlorine) into the washerin the manner directed on the bleach container. When non-chlorine bleach is to be used, introduce i

35、t into the washer in theamount and manner directed on the bleach container.7.1.4 Skewness ChangeBefore and after laundering, de-termine the bias of the shower curtain as directed in AATCC179 16 Option 1.7.1.5 Colorfastness7.1.5.1 LaunderingDetermine the colorfastness to laun-dering as directed in Te

36、st 4-A of AATCC Method 61 unlessotherwise agreed between the purchaser and supplier. UseMultifiber Test Fabric No. 105to determine the stainingcharacteristics.NOTE 5For all unbleachable items, Test 3-A will be used.7.1.5.2 CrockingDetermining the colorfastness to dry andwet crocking as directed in A

37、ATCC Method 8 for solid shadesand AATCC Method 116 for prints or as agreed between thepurchaser and supplier.7.1.5.3 LightDetermine the colorfastness to light as di-rected in AATCC Method 16 Option 3.NOTE 6There is a distinct difference in spectral distribution betweenthe various types of machines l

38、isted inAATCC Method 16 with no overallcorrelation between them. Consequently, these machines cannot be usedinterchangeably. In case of controversy,AATCC Method 16 Option 3 shallprevail.7.1.6 Water ResistanceDetermine the water resistance asdirected in AATCC Method 35.7.2 Product:7.2.1 AppearanceBef

39、ore and after laundering, determinethe appearance of hems, ruffles, or other embellishments, orsuch other appearance characteristics as agreed upon by thepurchaser and the supplier.8. Report8.1 State that the specimen(s) were tested as directed inPerformance Specification D5378. Describe the fiber c

40、ontent,the type of fabric, the type(s) of shower curtains tested andidentify the components.8.2 The report shall include the following additional infor-mation:8.2.1 Objective of the test,8.2.2 Description and identification of the shower curtains,8.2.3 Describe the method of sampling used,8.2.4 List

41、 of performance characteristics evaluated, the testmethod used for each, and the results of each,8.2.5 Report the number of laundering cycles and the washconditions used, and8.2.6 Conclusion, if appropriate.9. Conformance9.1 When the purchaser and supplier have agreed uponspecific requirements for t

42、he characteristics that are to beconsidered, shower curtains that fail to meet these require-ments may be rejected. Rejection should be reported to thesupplier in writing.
