Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 For all terminology related to Home Furnishings seeTerminology D7023.3.1.2 The following terms are relevant to this standard:blanket, for bedding.3.1.3 For definitions of all other textile terms see Terminol-ogy D123.4. Significan

20、ce and Use4.1 Upon mutual agreement between the purchaser and thesupplier, woven products intended for this end use should meetall of the requirements listed in Table 1 of this specification.4.2 It is recognized that for purposes of fashion or aestheticsthe ultimate consumer of articles made from th

21、ese fabrics mayfind acceptable products that do not conform to all of therequirements in Table 1. Therefore, one or more of therequirements listed in Table 1 may be modified by mutualagreement between the purchaser and the supplier.4.2.1 In such cases, any references to the specification shallspecif

22、y that: This product meets Specification D5432 exceptfor the following characteristic(s).4.3 Where no prepurchase agreement has been reachedbetween the purchaser and the supplier, and in case ofcontroversy, the requirements listed in Table 1 are intended tobe used as a guide only. As noted in 4.2, u

23、ltimate consumerdemands dictate varying performance parameters for anyparticular style.4.4 The significance and use of particular properties and testmethods are discussed in the appropriate sections of thespecified test methods.5. Sampling5.1 Acceptance Testing LotUnless there is prior agree-ment, c

24、onsider as a lot for acceptance testing all material of asingle item as a single shipment.5.2 Lot Samples and Laboratory SamplesFor acceptancetesting, take lot samples and laboratory samples as directed ineach of the applicable test methods.5.3 SpecimensTake the number of specimens directed ineach o

25、f the applicable test methods. Perform the tests on theproduct as it reaches the customer. Any “partially finished” or“post-finish” fabrics should be processed in accordance withthe fabric manufacturers instructions.5.4 If the applicable test method does not specify thenumber of specimens, use the p

26、rocedures in Practice D2905 todetermine the number of specimens per laboratory sample unit.5.4.1 Use a reliable estimate of the variability of individualobservations on similar materials in the users laboratory,5.4.2 A95 % probability level, and5.4.3 An allowable difference of 5 % of the average be-

27、tween the test results on laboratory sampling units and theaverage for the laboratory sampling unit. The average for alaboratory sampling unit is the average that would be obtainedby applying the test method to all of the potential specimensfrom that laboratory sampling unit.6. Specification Require

28、ments6.1 FabricsThe properties of fabrics for institutional andhousehold conventional woven, thermal woven, flocked, non-woven, and knitted blankets shall conform to the specificationrequirements in Table 1.6.2 ProductThe properties to be evaluated and the accep-tance criteria assigned to these area

29、s shall be set by mutualagreement between the purchaser and the supplier.7. Testing For Household and Institutional Use7.1 Test Methods: FabricThe physical and colorfastnessproperties of the fabric in the products shall be evaluated asdirected as follows:7.1.1 Breaking Strength (Woven and Nonwoven F

30、abricsOnly)Determine the breaking strength as directed in TestMethod D5034, using a constant-rate-of extension (CRE)tensile testing machine.NOTE 2If preferred, a constant-rate-of-traverse (CRT) tensile testingmachine may be used. There may be no overall correlation between theresults obtained with t

31、he CRT machine and with the CRE machine.Consequently, these two breaking load testers cannot be used interchange-ably. In case of controversy, the CRE method (Test Method D5034) shallprevail.7.1.2 Bursting Strength (Knit and Flocked Fabrics Only)Determine the bursting strength in the standard atmosp

32、here fortesting textiles as directed in Test Method D3786 or TestMethod D6797 as agreed upon between the purchaser andseller.NOTE 3There is no overall correlation between the results obtainedwith the CRE machine equipped with a bursting attachment and thediaphragm bursting tester. Consequently, thes

33、e two bursting testers cannotbe used interchangeably. In case of controversy, the motor-driven dia-phragm tester method (Test Method D3786) shall prevail.5Available from Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., 333 Pfingsten Road, North-brook, IL 60062-0296.D5432 1227.1.3 Nonfibrous MaterialDetermine the no

34、nfibrous ma-terial as directed in AATCC Method 97.NOTE 4Determine only the water-soluble and enzyme-extractablematerial.7.2 Fabrication:7.2.1 Dimensional ChangeDetermine the maximum di-mensional change after five launderings following permanentlyattached care label instructions, or as directed in AA

35、TCCMethod 135 for household use, or AATCC Method 96 forinstitutional use, or ASTM Method D2724 for drycleaning useas agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier.7.2.2 The wash conditions and drying procedure shall be asspecified by the seller when using AATCC Method 135 forhousehold products

36、or AATCC Method 96 for institutionalproducts.7.2.3 The drycleaning procedure shall be as specified by thesupplier when usingASTM D2724 72 as directed in 10.1.1 to10.1.4 with the exclusion of pressing.NOTE 5The method in 7.3.2 is a modification of the method used in10.1.1 to 10.1.4 of Methods D2724 7

37、2. The precision and accuracy havenot been established. The method is not recommended for acceptancetesting unless preceded by an interlaboratory check test in the laboratoryof the purchaser and the laboratory of the supplier using randomizedreplicate specimens of the type of material to be evaluate

38、d.7.3 Colorfastness:7.3.1 LaunderingDetermine the colorfastness to launder-ing as directed in AATCC Method 61. The test conditions shallbe agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier.7.3.2 DrycleaningDetermine colorfastness to drycleaningas directed in AATCC Method 132.7.3.3 CrockingDetermine

39、 colorfastness to dry and wetcrocking as directed in AATCC Method 8 for solid shades andAATCC Method 116 for prints or as agreed upon between thepurchaser and the supplier.7.3.4 LightDetermine colorfastness to light as directed inAATCC Method 16.NOTE 6There is a distinct difference in spectral distr

40、ibution betweenthe various types of machines listed inAATCC Method 16, with no overallcorrelation between them. Consequently, these machines cannot be usedinterchangeably. In case of controversy,AATCC Method 16 Option 3 shallprevail.7.4 FlammabilityDetermine flammability as directed inTest Method D4

41、151 except when regulated by applicableGovernment mandatory standards.7.5 Product:7.5.1 AppearanceBefore and after laundering, determinethe appearance of blanket fabric, hems, seams, binding, or suchother appearance characteristics as are agreed upon betweenthe purchaser and the supplier.8. Report8.

42、1 State that the specimen(s) were tested as directed inPerformance Specification D5432. Describe the fiber content,the type of fabric, the type(s) of blanket product tested, andidentify the components.8.2 The report shall include the following additional infor-mation:8.2.1 Objective of the test,8.2.

43、2 Description and identification of blanket product(s),8.2.3 Description of the method of sampling used,8.2.4 List of performance characteristics evaluated, the testmethod used for each, and the results of each,8.2.5 Number of laundering cycles and the wash conditionsused, and8.2.6 Conclusion, if ap

44、propriate.9. Conformance9.1 When the purchaser and the supplier have agreed uponspecific requirements for the characteristics that are to beconsidered, blanket products that fail to meet these require-ments may be rejected. Rejection should be reported to thesupplier in writing. In case of disagreem

45、ent with the results ofthe test, the supplier may make claim for a retest.ASTM International takes no position respecting the validity of any patent rights asserted in connection with any item mentionedin this standard.
