Scope1.1 This test method covers all degraded glycerides, sincethey are neutral fats. However, this procedure do

This is due to the water solublecharacteristics of some mono and diglycerides.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard. No other units of measurement are included in thisstandard.1.3

Significance and Use3.1 This test method is intended for the determination of theneutral fatty matter contained in fats and oils by means of etherextraction.4. Apparatus and Reage

6、nts4.1 Erlenmeyer Flask, 125 mL.4.2 Separatory Funnel.4.3 NaOH, 0.5 N.4.4 Petroleum Ether.4.5 Phenolphthalein Indicator.4.6 Ethyl Alcohol, denatured.5. Procedure5.1 Weigh5gofsample into a 125-mL assay flask and add50 mL of alcohol. Warm and rotate, if necessary, to dissolve.Titrate with 0.5 N NaOH t

7、o end point using phenolphthaleinindicator. Cool, then add 1 mL excess 0.5 N NaOH and rotateflask. Extract three times with 50-mL portions of petroleumether and wash combined ether layers with water until freefrom alkali. Evaporate ether and dry to constant weight.6. Calculation6.1 Calculate the tot

8、al neutral oily matter as follows:total neutral oily matter 5weight of residue 3 100weight of sample(1)6.2 Determine the total neutral oily matter including unsa-ponifiables, if any, as in Test Method D5553, and subtract toobtain neutral fatty matter.7. Precision and Bias7.1 This test method is adop

9、ted from the procedures of theAmerican Leather ChemistsAssociation where it has long beenin use and where it was approved for publication before theinclusion of precision and bias statements was mandated. Theoriginal interlaboratory test data are no longer available. Theuser is cautioned to verify b

10、y the use of reference materials, ifavailable, that the precision and bias (or reproducibility) of thistest method is adequate for the contemplated use.8.
