3、chemically curing silicone sealants that are based onpolymers of polysiloxane structures and are intended for use insealing joints and cracks in portland cement concrete highwayand airfield pavements. The specification includes both non-sag and self-leveling types of sealants.1.1.1 This specificatio

4、n does not purport to cover theproperties required of sealants for use in areas of portlandcement concrete pavements subject to jet fuel or other fuelspillage, such as vehicle or aircraft refueling and maintenanceareas, or a combination thereof.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound

5、unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Classification4.1 Sealants meeting the requirements of this specificationshall be classified according to type as one o

12、f the following:4.1.1 Type NS (Non-Sag)A single component sealant thatresists sagging after application in horizontal joints and re-quires tooling or forming into the joint to achieve the desiredapplication configuration.4.1.2 Type SL (Self-Leveling)A single component sealantthat is self-leveling an

General Requirements5.1 The sealant shall be a uniform mixture with a consis-tency that is appropriate for application to joints in portlandcement concrete pavements through pressure feed applicationunits or by hand caulking guns.The s

17、ealant shall cure by meansof a chemical reaction of the components to form an elasto-meric seal that seals joints in concrete throughout repeatedcycles of thermal expansion and contraction and against theinfiltration of moisture and incompressibles.5.2 When stored in the original, unopened container

18、s atconditions recommended by the manufacturer, the sealant shallbe capable of meeting the specification requirements for atleast six months after the original purchase.5.3 After specified curing in the laboratory, the color of thecured sealant shall be as agreed upon by the purchaser and themanufac

19、turer.5.4 The sealant is intended for use in appropriately pre-pared, clean, dry, and frost-free portland cement concrete jointsor cracks in new pavements or pavements that are beingresealed.6. Physical Requirements6.1 Cure EvaluationThe sealant shall cure throughout a12.7 by 12.7 mm 0.5 by 0.5 in.

20、cross section within 21 dayswhen evaluated in accordance with 9.1. At 21 days 6 4hofcuring, the sealant shall not show the presence of any uncuredmaterial, as indicated by sealant that has not changed from aliquid to a solid state.6.2 Rheological Properties:6.2.1 When tested in accordance with Test

21、Method D2202,Type NS sealant shall not slump more than 7.6 mm 0.30 in.6.2.2 When tested in accordance with Test Method C639 forType I sealant, Type SL sealant shall exhibit a smooth, levelsurface with no indication of bubbling.6.3 Extrusion RateWhen tested in accordance with TestMethod C1183 for Typ

22、e S sealants, the extrusion rate shall notbe less than 20 mL/min 1.22 in.3/min.6.4 Tack-Free TimeThe sealant shall be tack-free, with notransfer of the sealant to the polyethylene, when tested at 5 h 610 min in accordance with Test Method C679.6.5 Effects of Heat AgingThe sealant shall not lose more

23、than 10 % of its original weight or show any cracking orchalking when tested in accordance with Test Method C792.6.6 BondThe sealant shall be tested in accordance with9.6 at 29 6 1C 20 6 2F for five complete cycles of100 % extension each. All three specimens shall meet thefollowing requirements for

24、bond:6.6.1 Non-ImmersedNo specimen shall develop anycrack, separation, or other opening in the sealant or betweenthe sealant and the concrete test blocks.6.6.2 Water-ImmersedNo specimen shall develop anycrack, separation, or other opening in the sealant or betweenthe sealant and the concrete test bl

25、ocks.6.6.3 Oven-AgedNo specimen shall develop any crack,separation, or other opening in the sealant or between thesealant and the concrete test blocks.6.7 Hardness:6.7.1 When tested in accordance with Test Method C661at296 1C 20 6 2F, using a Type A-2 durometer, thehardness shall not exceed 25.6.7.2

26、 When tested in accordance with Test Method C661 at23 6 2C 73.4 6 3.6F, using a Type 00 durometer, thehardness shall not be less than 30.6.8 FlowWhen tested in accordance with 9.8 at 93.3 61C 200 6 2F for 72 h 6 30 min, there shall be no flow.6.9 Rubber Properties in Tension:6.9.1 Ultimate Elongatio

27、nWhen tested in accordancewith Test Methods D412 using Die C, at 23 6 2C 73.4 63.6F, and using a 500 6 20 mm/min 20 6 2 in./minelongation rate, the ultimate elongation of the sealant shall notbe less than 600 %.6.9.2 Tensile Stress at 150 % ElongationWhen tested inaccordance with Test Methods D412 u

28、sing Die C, at 23 6 2C73.4 6 3.6F, and using a 500 6 20 mm/min 20 6 2 in./minelongation rate, the tensile stress at 150 % elongation shall notexceed 310 kPa 45 psi.6.10 Effects of Accelerated WeatheringAfter 5000 h ofexposure in accordance with 9.10, the sealant shall not flow,show tackiness, the pr

29、esence of an oil-like film, or reversion toa mastic-like substance, form surface blisters either intact orbroken, form internal voids, or have surface crazing, chalking,cracking, hardening, or loss of rubber-like properties. Thesealant shall not experience any cracking or crazing whensubjected after

30、 weathering to bending at -26 6-2C -15 63.6F as described in Test Method C793. Evidence of physicalchange in the surface of the material by visual and tactileexamination shall constitute failure of this test. The Acceler-ated Weathering test shall be repeated every 5 years or when aformula change is

31、 made.6.11 ResilienceWhen tested in accordance with 9.11, theresilience of the sealant shall not be less than 75 %.7. Sampling7.1 Samples may be taken at the plant or warehouse prior todelivery or at the time of delivery, at the option of thepurchaser. If sampling is conducted prior to shipment, the

32、inspector representing the purchaser shall have free access tothe material to be sampled. The inspector shall be afforded allreasonable facilities for inspection and sampling that shall beconducted so as not to interfere unnecessarily with the opera-tion of the works.7.2 Samples for testing shall co

33、nsist of not less than 3.78 L1 gal of the sealant. If the sealant is supplied in cartridges, asufficient number of cartridges shall be obtained at random toprovide at least 3.78 L 1 gal. If the sealant is supplied in18.9-L 5-gal or 207.9-L 55-gal containers, the sample shallbe obtained from an unope

34、ned container. The container shall beopened and any surface covering removed to expose thesealant. The required amount of sealant shall be removed fromthe container quickly and placed in a container that willminimize exposure of the sealant to air. The sample containershall be compatible with the se

35、alant. Use of a liner inside thecontainer may assist in minimizing air exposure. The samplecontainer shall be completely filled in a manner that excludesair entrapment and then sealed. A metal can with a doubleD5893/D5393M 102friction lid lined with a polyethylene bag meets these require-ments. Afte

36、r obtaining the sample from containers, any liningor covering shall be replaced to prevent exposure of thematerial remaining in the container to air. The container lidsshall be replaced tightly.7.3 When the sample (other than those in cartridges) fortesting is opened to begin laboratory testing, it

37、shall beexamined for the presence of cured material. Any skins ofcured sealant shall be removed from the sample. The materialtested shall not contain any cured portions. If sufficientquantities of uncured sealant cannot be obtained from thesample, or if cured portions of sealant are noted within the

38、sample (other than surface skins), the sample shall be discardedand a new sample obtained.7.4 After opening and examination of the test sample, alltest specimens shall be prepared without delay to minimizecuring of the sample. The sample should be handled in amanner that minimizes air exposure while

39、 preparing testspecimens. If any cured material skins form on the samplewhile preparing test specimens, the cured material shall beremoved prior to preparing additional specimens.8. Standard Conditions8.1 Standard Conditions for Laboratory TestsThe labora-tory atmospheric conditions, hereinafter ref

40、erred to as standardconditions, shall be 23 6 2C 73.4 6 3.6F and 50 6 5%relative humidity. Condition the sealant sample to be tested forat least 24 h at standard conditions prior to opening andbeginning any tests.9. Test Methods9.1 Cure Evaluation:9.1.1 ScopeThis test method determines that the seal

41、ant iscured to a solid form.9.1.2 Significance and UseThis test method determinesthat the sealant is cured throughout to a solid form in theallotted time so that further testing can be completed.9.1.3 ProcedureMake and cure one bond sample, asspecified in 9.6.4, at laboratory standard conditions for

42、 21 days+ 4 h. To aid with specimen curing, spacers may be removedprior to reaching the specified cure time, provided that thesealant has cured sufficiently so that no damage or distortion ofthe sealant occurs.After 21 days of curing, within +4 h, removeall spacers and other non-adherent surfaces fr

43、om the sealant.Remove the sealant from the concrete block surfaces by slicingcleanly along each concrete-sealant bonding surface with aknife or blade. This produces a sealant portion that has a 12.7by 12.7-mm 0.5 by 0.5-in. cross-sectional area and is 50.8mm 2 in. in length. Immediately slice this s

44、ealant portion inhalf to produce two sealant portions that are 25.4-mm 1-in.long. Immediately examine the 12.7 by 12.7-mm 0.5 by0.5-in. surfaces of the sealant that were exposed by slicing andthe bottom of the sealant portion that was in contact with thespacers or a base sheet for the presence of un

45、cured material, asindicated by sealant that has not changed from a liquid to asolid state. The presence of any uncured sealant shall constitutefailure of this evaluation.9.1.4 Precision and BiasNo information is presentedabout precision or bias of this test method for cure evaluationsince the result

After the specified scrubbing and blotting, place theblocks on their 25.4 by 50.8-mm 1 by 2-in. or 25.4 by25.4-mm 1 by 1-in. ends, and allo

49、w them to dry for 16 to 24h at standard laboratory conditions.9.6.4 Specimen PreparationPrepare three test specimensfor each bond evaluation. Assemble each test specimen usingtwo prepared concrete test blocks. Assemble the blocks withtheir 50.8 by 76.2-mm 2 by 3-in. or 25.4 by 76.2-mm 1 by3-in. surfaces facing, using appropriate spacers to form acavity in which the sealant is placed between the blocks, whichis 12.70 + 0.13-mm wide by 12.70 + 0.13-mm deep by 50.80+ 0.13-mm long
