Terminology3.1 DefinitionsThe terminology used in this classificationsystem is in accordance with Terminologies D883 and D1600.4. Classification4.1 Syndiotactic polystyre
17、ne materials are classified intogroups according to their composition. These groups aresubdivided into classes and grades as shown in the basicproperties table, Table SPS. Injection molded properties are thepreferred standard and are used for the basis of call outexamples. Call outs are allowed to b
18、e made in either ASTM orISO properties where both are given using the same linecallout.NOTE 2An example of this classification system for SPS is asfollows: For SPS0111, the designation SPS would indicate SPS =syndiotactic polystyrene, 01= homopolymer, 1 = general purpose, and 1(grade) = minimum grad
19、e requirements as found in Table SPS.4.1.1 To facilitate the incorporation of future or specialmaterials the “Other/Unspecified” category (0) for group, class,and grade is shown in Table SPS. 20、diotactic polystyrene materialsare classified in accordance with Table SPS as noted or withTable A.4.2.1 Reinforced and Additive MaterialsA single letterwill be used for the major reinforcement or combination, orboth, along with two digits that indicate the percentage ofaddition by mass with the tol
21、erances as shown in Table 1.NOTE 3This part of the system uses the type and percentages ofadditive to designate the modification of the basic material. Percentage ofadditives can be shown on the suppliers Technical Data Sheet unless it isproprietary. If necessary, additional requirements shall be in

Suffix Requirements5.1 When additional requirements are needed that are notcovered by the basic requirements or cell table requirementsthey shall be indicated through the use of suff
29、ixes.5.2 A list of suffixes can be found in Classification SystemD4000 (Table 3) and are to be used for additional requirementsas appropriate. Additional suffixes will be added to thatstandard as test methods and requirments are developed andrequested.NOTE 7Properties of pigmented or colored SPS mat
30、erials can differfrom the properties of natural or unpigmented SPS material, depending onthe choice of colorants and the concentration. The main property affectedis ductility, as illustrated by a reduction in Izod impact strength. If specificproperties of pigmented SPS materials are necessary, prior
31、 testing betweenthe materials supplier and end user should be initiated.6. Basic Requirements6.1 Basic requirements from Table SPS, as they apply, arealways in effect unless superseded by specific suffix require-ments, which always take precedence.6.2 The plastics composition shall be uniform and sh
32、allconform to the requirements specified herein.7. General Requirements7.1 The material composition shall conform to the require-ments in Tables SPS. A, B, and suffix requirements as theyapply.8. Detail Requirements8.1 Test specimens for the various materials shall conformto the requirements prescri
33、bed in Tables SPS, A, and B, andsuffix requirements as they apply.8.2 For the purpose of determining conformance, all speci-fied limits for a specification (line callout) based on thisclassification system are absolute limits, as defined by PracticeE29.9. Sampling9.1 Sampling shall be statistically
34、adequate to satisfy therequirements of 13.4.9.2 A batch or lot is construed as a unit of manufacture asprepared for shipment, and is allowed to consist of two or moreproduction runs or batches.D6339 11210. Sample PreparationInjection10.1 The test specimens shall be molded by an injectionmolding proc
35、ess in accordance with Practice D3641 as follows:10.1.1 Pre-drying of pellets is only required for blends ofSPS. Four hours of drying at 200C in a dryer with a dew pointof 30C is recommended for SPS/PA blends.10.1.2 For injection-molded samples 290 6 10C shall bethe melt temperature, and 100 6 10C o

Conditioning11.1 Test specimens shall be conditioned in the standardlaboratory atmosphere in accordance with Procedure A ofPractice D618 before performing the required tests. Blendsshall be tested dry as molded.11.2 Conduct tests in the standard laborator
38、y atmosphere of23 6 2C and 50 6 10 % relative humidity in accordance withPractice D618.12. Test Methods12.1 Unless otherwise stated herein, determine the proper-ties enumerated in this classification system by means of thefollowing Test Methods as applicable: D256 or ISO 179; D638or ISO 527; D648 or
39、 ISO 75; D790; D792 or ISO 1183; D1238or ISO 1133; D1525 or ISO 306.13. Inspection and Certification13.1 Inspection and certification of the material suppliedwith reference to a specification based on this classificationsystem shall be for conformance to the requirements specifiedherein.13.2 Lot-acc
40、eptance inspection shall be the basis on whichacceptance or rejection of the lot is made. The lot-acceptanceinspection shall consist of the following:13.2.1 Tensile strength, and13.2.2 Ash (filled products only).13.3 Periodic-check inspection with reference to a specifi-cation based upon this classi
41、fication system shall consist of thetests for all requirements of the material under this classifica-tion system. Inspection frequency shall be adequate to ensurematerial is certifiable in accordance with 13.4.13.4 Certification shall be that the material was manufac-tured by a process in statistica
42、l control, sampled, tested andinspected in accordance with this classification system and thatthe average values for the lot meet the requirements of thespecification (line callout).13.5 A report of the test results shall be furnished whenrequested. The report shall consist of results of the lot-acc
43、eptance inspection for the shipment and results of the mostrecent periodic-check inspection.14.
