3、pplicable when Test Methods D5023, D5024, D5026,D5279, and D5418 are used for conducting dynamic mechani-cal analysis of roofing and waterproofing membrane material inthree-point bending, compression, tension, torsion, and dualcantilever modes, respectively. The specific method is selectedby the ana

4、lyst and depends on the membrane material and theoperating principles of the individual instrument used for theanalysis.1.2 This practice covers test procedures and conditions thatare applicable when Test Method E1131 is used for conductingthermogravimetry of roofing and waterproofing membranemateri

5、al.1.3 Membrane materials include bituminous built-uproofing, polymer-modified bitumen sheets, vulcanized rubbers,non-vulcanized polymeric sheets, and thermoplastics. Themembrane materials can be either nonreinforced or reinforced.1.4 This practice is applicable to new membrane materialsreceived fro

6、m the supplier, those exposed artificially in thelaboratory or outdoors on an exposure rack, and those sampledfrom field installations.1.5 This practice contains notes which are explanatory andare not part of the mandatory requirements of this practice.1.6 The values stated in either SI units or inc

7、h-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.7 This standard does not purport

The glass transition temperature, storagemodulus, loss modulus, and damping factor of the specimenare measured.4.2 In conducting a thermogravimetry analysis, the roofingor waterproofing memb

18、rane specimen is placed in a testchamber and subjected to a controlled, increasing temperatureprogram. The temperature range can be from about roomtemperature (for example, 20 to 40C) to well-above roomtemperature (for example, 900C), and the atmosphere of thechamber is controlled through the use of

19、 inert gas such asnitrogen or reactive gas such as air. The percent mass loss ofthe specimen is determined as a function of temperature.5. Significance and Use5.1 Dynamic mechanical analysis provides a measure of therheological properties of roofing and waterproofing membranematerials.5.2 Thermograv

20、imetry is used to characterize the thermalstability of roofing and waterproofing membrane materialsunder the specific temperature program and gaseous atmo-sphere conditions selected for the analysis.5.3 Both dynamic mechanical analysis and thermogravim-etry are used to evaluate the effect of either

21、laboratory-simulated or in-service exposure on roofing and waterproofingmembrane materials.5.4 Both dynamic mechanical analysis and thermogravim-etry can be applied to asphalt shingles. However, their appli-cation to asphalt shingles is beyond the scope of this practice,which is limited to low-slope

22、 membrane materials at this time.5.5 This practice can be useful in the development ofperformance criteria for roofing and waterproofing membranematerials.DYNAMIC MECHANICAL ANALYSIS6. Test Procedure6.1 Select the specific test method (that is, Test MethodD5023, D5024, D5026, D5279,orD5418) dependin

23、g on theavailable instrument and specific type of roofing or waterproof-ing membrane material to be analyzed. If questions arise,consult the individual manufacturers literature on instrumentoperation.6.2 Prepare a specimen, appropriately sized for the specificinstrument, cut in either the machine or

24、 cross machine direc-tion of the membrane material.6.3 Remove granules, if present on the surface of themembrane material, taking care to avoid damage to thespecimen.NOTE 1Tweezers or a razor-edged laboratory knife have been foundto be suitable for this purpose.6.4 Remove dirt and bonding adhesive t

25、o the extentpossible, if present on the surface of membrane materialssampled after outdoor exposure or from field installations (seeNote 2), taking care to avoid damage to the specimen. Use ofsolvents other than water is not permissible. If water is used,dry the sample overnight at 23 6 2C 74 6 4F b

26、eforeanalysis.NOTE 2In some cases where dirt or bonding adhesive is well adheredto the membrane material, it may not be possible to completely remove it.In such cases, the decision to conduct the analysis is left to the analyst. Ifthe analysis is conducted, the presence of dirt or bonding adhesive o

27、n thespecimen is included in the report.7. Test Conditions7.1 Conduct the dynamic mechanical analysis using thefollowing conditions and parameters:7.1.1 PreconditioningPrecondition the specimen in anoven for1hat806 2C 176 6 4F to provide a consistentthermal history prior to analysis. Then allow the

28、precondi-tioned specimen to cool to 23 6 2C 74 6 4 F in adesiccator. Store the preconditioned specimen in the desiccatorat 23 6 2C 74 6 4F until conducting the analysis.7.1.2 Temperature RangeThe temperature range shall be80 to 50C 112 to 122F, with an allowed variation of62C 64F.7.1.3 Low Temperatu

29、re StabilizationThe specimen shallremain at 80C 112F for 5 min before beginning ananalysis.7.1.4 Heating RateThe heating rate shall be 2C/min4F/min.7.1.5 FrequencyThe frequency shall be 1 Hz.7.1.6 Clamping PressureThe clamping pressure shall bein accordance with the equipment manufacturers instructi

Test Report8.1 Report the generic type of membrane material, andindicate whether it was new, exposed artificially in the labora-tory or outdoors on an exposure rack, or sampled from a fieldinstallation.8.1.1 For membrane materials exposed in the laboratory,indicate the conditions and length o

31、f exposure.8.1.2 For membrane materials exposed outdoors or sampledfrom field installations, indicate pertinent information includ-ing geographical location and exposure time or sample age.8.2 Report whether dirt or bonding adhesive was removedfrom, or remained on, surfaces of membrane materials sam

32、pledafter outdoor exposure or from field installations.8.3 Report the test method used to conduct the dynamicmechanical analysis.8.4 Report the information as required in the report sectionof the test method used.THERMOGRAVIMETRY9. Test Procedure9.1 Conduct the thermogravimetry procedure in accordan

33、cewith Test Method E1131.9.2 Prepare a specimen having a mass within the range from10 to 25 mg. 36、-tures up to 600C 1112F, and air for temperatures beyond600C 1112F.10.1.2 Temperature RangeThe minimum temperatureshall be between 20 to 40C 68 and 104F, with an allowedvariation of 62C 64F. The maximum temperature shall beat least 900C 1652F.10.1.3 Heating RateThe heating rate shall be 20C/min36F/m

Test Report11.1 Report the generic type of membrane material, andindicate whether it was new, exposed artificially in the labora-tory or outdoors on an exposure rack, or sampled from a fieldinstallation.11.1.1 For membrane materials exposed in the laboratory,indicate the conditions and length
