Scope*1.1 This specification covers the classification of sulfoneplastics suitable for injection molding and extrusion.1.2 The properties included in this specification a

Other require-ments necessary to identify particular characteristics importantto specialized applications are to be specified by using thesuffixes in Section 5. Material selection can be made by those having expertisein the plastics field only after careful consideration of thedesign and the performance required of the part, the environ-ment to which it will be exposed, the fabrication process to bee

5、mployed, the cost involved, and the inherent properties of thematerial other than those covered by this specification.1.4 Sulfone polymers, being thermoplastic, are reprocess-able and recyclable. This specification allows for the use ofthose sulfone polymer materials, provided that any specificrequi

Terminology3.1 Except for terms defined below, the terminology used inthis specification is in accordance w

17、ith Terminologies D883and D1600.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 sulfone plastics, nplastics based on any of variousaromatic polymers which contain diphenyl sulfone in thebackbone of the repeating unit of the molecule.3.2.1.1 DiscussionAll of the sulfone polymers which areund

18、er this specification contain ether oxygen which is anecessary component of the polymers as in the diphenylsulfone moiety. Examples of moieties which can be part of thebackbone of the repeating unit, in addition to diphenyl sulfone,are diphenyl isopropylidene, and biphenyl. Blends of thesepolymers c

19、an exist as well as co- and ter-polymers. Commer-cial polymers that are members of this class of thermoplasticsinclude polysulfone (PSU), polyether sulfone (PESU), andpolyphenylsulfone (PPSU) (see Fig. 1).4. Classification4.1 Unreinforced sulfone plastics are classified into groupsin accordance with

20、 their composition. These groups are subdi-vided into classes and grades as shown in Table SP.NOTE 3An example of this designation system is given below. Thedesignation SP0213 indicates the following:SP = sulfone plastics as defined in Section 3,02 (Group) = polyether sulfone, as defined in Terminol

21、ogy D1600,1 (Class) = high temperature, and3 (Grade) = requirements given in Table SP.4.1.1 To facilitate incorporation of future or special materi-als the “Other” category for group (00), class (0), and grade (0)is shown in Table SP. The basic properties of these materialscan be obtained from Table

22、 A as they apply.4.2 Reinforced, filled, and lubricated versions of sulfoneplastics that are in Table SP are classified in accordance withTables SP and A. Table SP is used to specify the group ofsulfone plastics and Table A is used to specify the propertyrequirements after the addition of reinforcem

23、ents, pigments,fillers, or lubricants at the nominal level indicated (see 4.2.1).4.2.1 Reinforcements and Additive MaterialsA symbol(single-letter) is used for the major reinforcement or combina-tion, or both, along with two numbers which indicate thepercentage of addition by mass with the tolerance

26、einforce-ment and additives can be accomplished by use of the suffix part of thesystem (see Section 5).4.2.2 Specific requirements for reinforcement, filled, orlubricated sulfone plastics shall be shown by a six-characterdesignation. The designation will consist of the letter “A” andthe five digits

27、comprising the cell numbers for propertyrequirements in the order as they appear in Table A.4.2.2.1 Although the values listed are necessary to includethe range of properties available in existing materials, this doesnot imply that every possible combination of the propertiesexists or can be obtaine

28、d.4.2.3 When the grade of the basic material is not known, oris not important, the “0” grade shall be used for the reinforcedmaterials in this system.NOTE 5An example of this classification for a reinforced sulfoneplastics material is given as follows. Suffixes5.1 When additional requirements are needed for the mate-rials covered in this specification that are not covered in TablesSP or A, then those requirements shall be designated throughthe use of suffixes.5.1.1 A list of suitable suffixes are f

General Requirements6.1 Basic requirements from the property table (Table SP)or cell table (TableA) are always in effect unless superseded byspecific suffix requirements, which always take precedence.Properties in Table A supersede properties in Table SP.6.2

36、The plastics composition shall be uniform and shallconform to the requirements specified herein.7. Detail Requirements7.1 The materials shall conform to the respective require-ments of Tables SP, A, and the suffix as they apply.7.2 For purposes of determining conformance, all specifiedlimits for a s

37、pecification (line callout) based on this classifica-tion system are absolute limits, as defined in Practice E29.7.2.1 With the absolute method, an observed value or acalculated value is not rounded, but is to be compared directlywith the limiting value. Conformance or nonconformance isbased on this

38、 comparison.8. Sampling8.1 Sampling shall be statistically adequate to satisfy therequirements of 12.4.8.2 A batch or lot shall be defined as a unit of manufactureas prepared for shipment and is permitted to consist of a blendof two or more production runs.9. Specimen Preparation9.1 The test specime

39、ns shall be prepared by injectionmolding process in accordance with Practice D3641. Recom-mended processing conditions are shown in Table 1.9.2 Before molding, the material shall be dried to a moisturelevel of no more than 0.05 % as determined by test methodsdescribed in Test Method D6869.10. Condit

40、ioning10.1 Test specimens shall be conditioned in the standardlaboratory atmosphere in accordance with Procedure A ofPractice D618 for a minimum of 4 h before performing therequired tests.10.2 Conduct those tests influenced by ambient conditionsin the standard laboratory atmosphere of 23 6 2C and 50

41、 610 % relative humidity.11. Test Methods11.1 Determine the properties enumerated in this specifica-tion by means of Test Methods D256, D638, D648, D790,D792, D1238, and D5630.11.1.1 The number of tests shall be consistent with therequirements of Section 8 and 12.4.11.1.2 All test specimens shall be

46、.12.3 Periodic check inspection with reference to a specifi-cation based upon this specification shall consist of the tests forall requirements of the material under the specification. Inspec-tion frequency shall be adequate to ensure the material iscertifiable in accordance with 12.4.12.4 Certifica
