Scope1.1 This guide lists minimum application and installati

Significance and Use4.1 This guide outlines general procedures for the storageand application of semi-rigid protection board to below gradeand b

7、elow wearing surface waterproofing. The proper applica-tion is necessary to prevent damage to the waterproofingmembrane during backfilling, paving, or other constructionoperations, as well as to minimize the effects of soil stresses.4.2 This guide is intended to supplement instructions fromdesigners

8、 and manufacturers.5. Delivery of Materials5.1 Deliver materials in suppliers original containers andpackaging.6. Storage and Handling6.1 Store adhesive and mastic in tightly closed originalcontainers under conditions as recommended by the manufac-turer.6.2 Store the protection board in suppliers or

9、iginal pack-aging in a horizontal position to prevent deformation. Protectagainst exposure to direct sunlight, precipitation, dust, andother such contaminants.7. Materials7.1 Adhesive, when used, must be acceptable to or havebeen recommended by the waterproofing membrane manufac-turer or supplier an

10、d further must be fully compatible with themembrane and the asphalt protection board.7.2 Mastic or tape, or both, (if used on the joints) must beacceptable to or have been recommended by the waterproofingmembrane manufacturer or supplier and further be fullycompatible with the membrane and the aspha

11、lt protectionboard.8. Safety Precautions8.1 Store flammable materials in a manner that will not posea fire hazard. Solvent bearing adhesives may be flammable. Donot use flammable materials near an open flame or equipmentthat may produce sparks.9. Environmental Conditions at Time of Application9.1 En

United States110. Substrate Preparation10.1 The waterpr

15、oofing membrane must be clean and suf-ficiently dry so as not to interfere with adhesion of theprotection board.10.2 If a flood test of the membrane is desired, this testshould be made before placing the protection course, inaccordance with Guide D5957.11. Installation11.1 Install protection board w

16、ithin 24 h of completing thewaterproofing membrane installation. Delay installation of theprotection board until the waterproofing film cures. If floodtesting is conducted the application should be as soon aspossible after the surface is dry and clean.11.2 On Low Slope Surfaces:11.2.1 Lay protection

17、 board on the membrane in commonbond brick pattern (so that the joints are aligned in onedirection and broken half way over in the other direction) withthe edges butted tightly together. The maximum allowable gapbetween boards is 3 mm 18 in. No area of the membraneshall be left uncovered. Lay the bo

18、ard with the weather coatingand bond breaking film away from the membrane.11.2.2 At areas with protrusions and drains, place the boardin the desired position to measure the area to be cut out. Indrain areas mark an area large enough to cover the membraneand the sealed termination. Mark boards as clo

19、se to theprotrusion as possible while still keeping the board flat.Remove the marked board before cutting (so as not to cut thewaterproofing membrane) using a sharp utility knife. Check thecutout by replacing the board in the original location makingsure it will butt all sheets and adequately protec

20、t the desiredareas before applying adhesive (if being used) for final placing.Avoid damaging the waterproofing membrane or any flashingsduring application. Boards must lie flat; if necessary, score thebottom of the board to obtain conformance to surface.11.2.3 Cut and fit boards at inside or outside

21、 angles. Forgentle or “slow” bends, scoring and folding is acceptable. Useadhesive to hold the protection board in position.11.2.4 During windy conditions, weigh the individualboards down, even if adhesive is used.11.3 On Vertical and Steeply Sloped Surfaces:11.3.1 The protection board is to be appl

22、ied with the longaxis of the board going up the slope. The joints in thecross-the-slope direction shall be aligned while the up-slopejoints shall be in a stacked brick pattern, with joints centeredover previously applied boards.11.3.2 Using adhesive as described in 7.2, coat the outside100 mm 4 in.

23、of the board as well as diagonally from eachcorner to make an “X” across the center of the surface of eachprotection board to be installed against the waterproofingmembrane. Full adhesive coating of the board is also accept-able when approved by the manufacturers or suppliers of themembrane componen

24、ts.11.3.3 Immediately place the protection board into positionand roll to secure into position. Follow the same procedurewith all other boards. Apply in common bond brick coursepattern, as described in 11.2.1. Butt the boards against eachother to completely protect the waterproofing surface. As with

25、low slope installations, the maximum gap between boards shallbe3mm18 in.11.3.4 At penetrations, place the board in the desiredposition to locate the areas to be cut. Remove the board toavoid damaging the waterproofing membrane and cut outmarked areas with a sharp utility knife. Replace the boardcare

26、fully in its original location.11.3.5 At sharp inside or outside angles, cut and fit theprotection board as specified in 11.2.3.11.3.6 For gentle or “slow” corners, scoring and folding isused. Use adhesive to hold the protection board in position.11.4 Seal butt joints of the protection board with a

27、suitablemastic or tape. Remove the bond breaking film in the area ofany joint to be sealed.11.5 Inspection and RepairInspect protection board appli-cations to determine that no areas of the waterproofing mem-brane are left unprotected. Any unprotected areas shall beimmediately covered before any bac

28、k filling or surfacing isdone.11.6 Back fill vertical installations within 24 h of protectionboard installation.12.
