8、inology D907.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 expandable foam adhesive, nany polymer that ex-pands during delivery or cure to fill the space betweensubstrates.4. Significance and Use4.1 This specification applies to expandable foam adhesivesused to bond the back surface of gy

9、psum wallboard toDouglas-fir dimensional lumber or other lumber species ofequivalent bonding qualities capable of meeting the testrequirements.4.2 The specification establishes the minimum strengthrequirements of the bond for the selected assembly materials.4.3 The adhesive is not considered a subst

10、itute for mechani-cal fasteners. Fasteners will be required to restrict expansion ofthe foam adhesive while it cures. The recommended fasteningschedule must appear in the manufacturers application instruc-tions.4.4 The tests are suitable for product performance certifica-tion and quality control pro

Materials and Apparatus for Conducting Tests7.1 AdhesivesThe adhesive shall be an expandable foamadhesive.7.2 Gypsum Wallboard12 in. (12.7 mm) thick, complyingwith Specification C1396/

18、C1396M; the dimensions are speci-fied in each test.7.3 Plywood34 or2332 in. (19 or 18.3 mm)-thick U.S.Product Standard PS-1-95 grade marked stamped, commercialplywood, Exterior, Group 1 Species, A-A or A-B grade faceand back veneers. The test specimen dimensions are specifiedin each test.7.4 Douglas

(The Douglas-fir lumber and plywood should not vary by0.5 % after consecutive weighings.)10. Test Methods10.1

33、 Shear Strength (Rate-of-Shear Strength Development):10.1.1 Preparation of Wallboard-Plywood LaminatesThegypsum wallboard must be reinforced with plywood. Theplywood reinforced gypsum wallboard is referred to as thewallboard-plywood laminate. Each laminate is made by bond-ing the front surface of a

34、piece of 4 by 312 by12 in. (101.6 by88.9 by 12.7 mm) thick wallboard to a34 or2332 in. (19 or 18.3mm) thick plywood piece of the same dimensions with acommercially available adhesive. The grain of the wallboardback surface facing paper shall run parallel with the 312 in. (89mm) direction. Cure the a

35、dhesive in accordance with theadhesive manufacturers recommendations. Condition thewallboard-plywood laminate to a constant weight in accor-dance with 9.2.10.1.2 Preparation of Test AssemblyPrepare the test as-sembly by bondinga4by312 by34 or2332 in. (102 by 89 by19 mm) piece of plywood (7.3) to the

36、 previously preparedlaminate as follows and shown in Fig. 3.10.1.2.1 Sand the face of the34-in. (19-mm) thick plywoodsmooth with garnet paper and wipe the sanded surface free ofdust. Drill two pilot holes through the wallboard-plywoodlaminate. Use a standard 0.125 in. (3.175 mm) drill bit andlocate

37、each pilot hole at38-in. (9.5 mm) from the sides and78-in. (22-mm) from the overlapped end.10.1.2.2 Apply the adhesive on the sanded surface with theself-contained delivery system set at the manufacturers rec-ommended bead size. The amount of adhesive should besufficient to cover the entire bond are

38、a without gaps in theadhesive.10.1.2.3 Allow an open time of 30 6 5 s upon completionof spreading.10.1.2.4 Squarely position the wallboard-plywood laminateon the coated plywood overlapping exactly 212 6116 in. (63.5mm), thus forming the approximate 10 in.2(64.5 cm2) bondedarea (see Fig. 3).10.1.2.5

39、Insert six wire spacers (No. 20 gage) at least 2 in.(51 mm) long into the adhesive bondline joint. Position thespacers so that they are at each end of the test region. With thetest specimen positioned horizontally on a firm surface and thewallboard plywood laminate piece on top, install two 6dscaffo

40、lding nails into the predrilled pilot holes.NOTE 2The pilot hole diameter should be slightly larger than the naildiameter. This is necessary to prevent the laminate from binding againstthe nail shaft and interfering with the uniform compression at the bondline. Carefully and uniformly set the nails

41、into the lower plywood piece.Drive the nails until the scaffold head initially encounters the wallboard-plywood laminate.10.1.2.6 After the adhesive has hardened, remove the scaf-folding nails. Remove the spacers and cut away the excessadhesive from the bonded edges. Do not disturb the alignmentof t

42、he bond line.10.1.3 Shear StrengthDynamic Loading DeterminationFollowing the appropriate conditioning, test the specimen inshear using a compression-shear test fixture as shown in Fig. 2.The bottom edge of the wallboard-plywood laminate shall reston a self-aligning seat as the test loading is simult

The stress applied mustbe parallel and uniformly distributed to the joint (shear plane)and must require careful orientation using shims

44、and self-aligning apparatus as necessary. Determine the shear strengthat a cross head speed of 0.2 in. (5.1 mm)/min. Observations aremade during stress application to ensure the test assemblymaintains proper alignment throughout the test. The testfixtures cannot in any way cause stress measurement e

45、rror(s)such as with binding or friction. Report the maximum shearstrength and the average shear strengths for the 24 h, the 14day, and the cyclic exposure test conditions.10.1.4 Shear Strength After 24 h:10.1.4.1 Prepare five test assemblies using the procedure in10.1.1 and 10.1.2.10.1.4.2 After agi

Store the assemblies at standard condition(9.1) for 24 h after each cycle.10.1.6.3 At the end of the cycling condition the test speci-mens for 2 days in standard conditions and determine the shearstrength in accordance with 10.1.3.10.1.7 Resistance to Static Load in Shear:10.1.7.1 Prepare t

49、en assemblies using the procedure in10.1.1 and 10.1.2. Use a razor blade to scribe a line at bothedges and perpendicular to the bond line where the gypsumwallboard-plywood laminate meets the plywood. The line willbe useful when examining the assembly for noticeable separa-tion or slippage.10.1.7.2 Condition the assemblies 14 days at standard con-dition (9.1).NOTE 3This will allow sufficient time for the adhesive to cure.10.1.7.3 Load five test assemblies to 40 lb (178 N) at 73 62F (23 6 1C) and five assemblies t
