3、s the selection of test conditions fromPractice G53to be employed for exposure testing of polish-coated paint, related coatings, and materials. This practicecovers the basic principles and operating procedures for usingfluorescent ultraviolet (UV) and condensation apparatus tosimulate the deteriorat

4、ion caused by sunlight and water as rainor dew.1.2 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regu

Significance and Use3.1 Organic

6、 coatings on exterior exposure are subjected toattack by degrading elements of the weather, particularlyultraviolet light, oxygen, and water. This practice may be usedfor evaluating the protective behavior of polish film applied toa coating. This polish-coated coating is then exposed in anapparatus

7、that produces ultraviolet radiation, temperature, andwater condensation for a given time period.3.2 No single light exposure apparatus, with or withoutwater, can be specified as a direct simulation of naturalexposure. This practice does not imply a specific correlationwith outdoor exposure. It is, h

8、owever, useful in screening theprotective quality of a polish within the test parameter.4. Apparatus and Material4.1 Fluorescent UV/Condensation Apparatus, complyingwith Practice G53.4.2 Glossmeter, using an angle of reflection of 60. Theinstrument and the reference standards shall conform to thereq

9、uirements prescribed in Test Method D 523.4.3 Forced-air Oven.4.4 Q Panel, 3 by 6 in. aluminum.4.5 Base Paint Coatingshould be a red paint that gives100 % loss in gloss after being exposed to the test in thispractice. Apply this paint to the 3 by 6 in. aluminum panelaccording to the instructions on

10、the spray can. Allow paintcoating to air dry for 24 h followed by 2 h of drying in aforced-air oven at 50C.4.6 Polishing and Application Cloth shall be the samesize and type for each sample tested. Separate cloths shall beused for each polish and for the application step and buffingstep. Materials s

11、uch as washed cheesecloth, rumple cloth,flannel, cotton diaper cloth, and nonwoven fabrics are suitablefor this purpose. Felt or paper shall not be used.4.7 Samples of Polish, to be tested.5. Procedure5.1 Apply the test polish to one half of the prepared coatedpanel. If the polish is a commercially

12、available product, followthe directions on the container so far as is possible. When indoubt of the application method use the following:5.1.1 Apply the polish, allow it to dry to a haze, and thenbuff it with a soft cloth to a glossy shine. Equal volumes of testpolishes should be applied when compar

13、ing products. Avoidexcessively thin or heavy coats of polish. 16、 surrounding area.5.2 Using a 60 glossmeter, take and record the glossreadings of the polished and unpolished areas of the panel.Also record the gloss differential, which is the gloss reading ofthe polished half of the panel minus the unpolished half. Afterdetermining these initial gloss readings, p

17、lace the Q panel inthe QUV cabinet.5.3 Use the condensation mode first, in which there is nolight with moisture at 50C for 4 h.5.4 This is followed by5hofUVexposure, which isfluorescent UV lamp light and no moisture at 70C for 5 h. Thegloss readings are taken as stated in 5.2 after 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5h

18、 of exposure to UV light. Also record a visual observation ofthe exposed, unexposed, and unpolished parts of the Q panelafter the 9 h test. These are 4 separate visual observations of thepainted panel.6. Report6.1 Report the manufacturer and model of the fluorescentUV/condensation apparatus, the man

19、ufacturers designationfor the fluorescent UV lamp, and the relative spectral energydistribution of the lamp.6.2 For each panel, report gloss readings for polished andunpolished areas and gloss differential. Then, for the samepanel, report the same three readings after 1, 2, 3, 4, and5hofUV exposure.

20、7. Precision and Bias7.1 Precision has not yet been established.7.2 This test has no bias because the values produced aredefined only in terms of this practice.8.
