If any test specimen exhibits a high degree ofleakage, discontinue any additional testing with that particularmechanical pump dispenser and report the findings in 11.1.10.7.2 Retention of PrimeFully

If any test specimen has lost prime andit is unable to be reprimed, then discontinue any additionaltesting with that particular mechanical pump dispenser andreport the findings in 11.1.NOTE 3If

26、the mechanical pump dispenser fails to re-prime as a resultof a clog, then try cleaning in accordance with 10.7.3 before concludingthe test.10.7.3 CloggingVisually inspect the orifice of each me-chanical pump dispenser for the presence of product, either asis, or in a dried state and report the find

If the mechanical pump dispenser is acceptable, butwith certain limitations, note accordingly.D663305212. Precision and Bias12.1 Prec

34、isionThe precision is highly dependent on theparticular pump style and contents tested. One laboratory hasinvestigated one particular fine mist pump style and a hairspray product with six replicate tests per temperature variable, yielding no visual product leakage, very minor cloggage, andall specime

35、ns retaining prime. For all specimens evaluated forstrokes to prime, the test yielded an average of 6.58 strokeswith a range of 6 to 7 strokes and a standard deviation of 0.53strokes. For the 23C specimens evaluated for output perstroke, the test yielded an average of 0.136 g with a range of0.130 to

36、 0.142 g and a standard deviation of 0.02 g. For the45C specimens evaluated for output per stroke, the testyielded an average of 0.136 g with a range of 0.131 to 0.142 gand a standard deviation of 0.02 g. Other pumps and contentswill have other averages and will have more or less variabilitybetween

37、replicate tests. Users of this test method are suggestedto reference historical files of previous tests of similar pumpsand contents for an estimate of within laboratory repeatability. The Committee believes that because of this strong product andpump style dependency, further investigation of repeat

38、abilityand reproducibility is not practicable.12.2 BiasThis test method has no bias because an ac-cepted reference or referee value is not available.13.
