ASTM D6659-2008 374 Standard Practice for Sampling and Preparation of Wet Blue for Physical and Chemical Tests《物理和化学试验用湿铬鞣革的取样和制备的标准实施规程》.pdf

、Designation: D 6659 08Standard Practice forSampling and Preparation of Wet Blue for Physical andChemical Tests1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 6659; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of

、last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This practice covers the sampling and preparation of wetblue for physical and chemical tests. The product is groupedin

、to lots that are randomly sampled in such a manner as toproduce a representative sample of the lot. This sample may beused to determine compliance of the lot with applicablespecification requirements, and on the basis of results, the lotmay be accepted or rejected in its entirety.1.2 The values stat

、ed in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use

、. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Terminology2.1 Definitions:2.1.1 lot (or batch), nunits of products from a single type, grade, class, size, and compo

、sition, manufactured under essen-tially the same conditions and time.2.1.1.1 DiscussionWet blue in formed lots should beproduced from: (1) Units of product of similar size and type.(2) Chromium tanning material obtained from the same pro-ducer (or functionally equivalent). (3)Asingle product method.

、(4) Sequential production batches.2.1.2 unit, na piece of wet blue in the form in which it ispurchased, such as a single hide, skin, or any part thereof.3. Significance and Use3.1 The sampling procedures described in this practice havebeen designed to ensure random sampling of wet blue forphysical a

、nd chemical tests. Wet blue is a natural product andas such is subject to extensive variability. The physical andchemical properties vary considerably depending on locationon the hide, side, or skin from which the test sample is taken.Random sampling of specimens from a predefined location andorient

、ation minimizes test bias and variability. This practicedefines these parameters.4. Conditioning4.1 Chemical and physical tests of wet blue, unless other-wise specified in the applicable test method, specification, orprocurement document, shall be performed under standardatmospheric conditions, whic

、h is 50 6 4% relative humidity ata temperature of 23 6 1 C (73.4 6 2 F). If testing conditionsvary from this standard the actual conditions must be includedin the report of all such tests.5. Sampling Procedure5.1 Prior to sampling, identify the product properly as a lotor batch.5.2 Select units from

、 locations scattered throughout the lot,not from the same portion of the lot, such as a single pallet, carton, layer, etc. Take without regard to quality.5.2.1 The number of samples taken depends on the reliabil-ity of the test results, the deviation of the properties, and theerror of the testing pro

、cedure. The number of samples takenmay be at the discretion of the user and the related test methodand should also be recorded on the test report. It is recom-mended that 12 samples be taken for every 50,000 square feetof hide or skin. These 12 shall be considered a lot, or batch.NOTE 1By reason of

、the high moisture content of wet blue, samplesshould be taken after the wringing operation and immediately sealed inairtight plastic wrap. Store in a cool place until used.5.3 The standard location for sampling wet blue is thekidney area (designated as TEST AREA “a”inFig. 1).Sampling in the belly or

Sampling Preparation6.1 Time is

、 crucial in the preparation of wet blue forchemical analysis. The following dicing procedure should bedone in 2 min. or less for each individual sample to preventsignificant moisture loss.6.1.1 Samples must be cut on a non-porous, non-absorbinghard surface using a clean sharp cutting tool, preferabl

Avoid excess pressure on thesample, which could force moisture out of the wet blue.6.1.2 Samples should be cut into 3 to 5 mm squares andleaving no original cut edges.6.1.3 Immediately place diced samples into an airtight glassor plastic container. This container

、must be large enough topermit preparation of a composite sample by freely mixing lotsamples, and yet having a minimum amount of airspace toprevent evaporation.6.1.4 Store at room temperature, away from heat or directlight.6.1.5 All chemical analyses shall be taken from the com-posite sample and be p
