Scope1.1 This guide lists application and installation requirementsfor fully adhered, cold-applied, prefabricated modified bitumi-nous membrane waterproofing systems for below-grade orbelow-wearing-surface (such as plaza decks) vertical or hori-zontal applications.1.2 For the purposes of

4、this application guide, the substrateis assumed to be structurally sound, sloped to drain (if newconstruction), and meeting the local building code require-ments. Similarly, the system components are assumed tocomply with all federal, state, and local requirements in effectat the time of installatio

5、n.1.3 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewit

Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 lift, nthe height or length of sheet that may becomfortably handled by the person applying the sheet to avertical surface. This is normally the height of this person, or1.5 t

9、o 2.1 m 5 to 7 ft.3.1.2 skin over, na condition in which the surface of thematerial is no longer tacky, but will move under slight fingerpressure.3.1.3 tack, na condition in which if the surface is touched,there will be a string of material attached to the finger.3.2 For definitions of other terms r

10、elating to waterproofing,see Terminology D1079.4. Significance and Use4.1 This guide outlines general procedures for the storageand application of various prefabricated sheets made usingmodified bituminous materials and intended for use as below-grade and below-wearing-surface waterproofing.4.2 The

11、substrate used for applications described in thisguide shall be concrete or masonry.4.3 This application consists of a prefabricated reinforcedmodified bituminous sheet applied to a suitable substrate usinga bituminous-based, cold-applied adhesive or mastic. Applica-tion rates given are typical for

12、such installations.4.4 This guide is intended to supplement instructions fromdesigners and manufacturers.5. Storage and Handling6.1 Store adhesive or mastic in tightly closed originalcontainers under the conditions recommended by the manufac-turer.6.2 Store the modified bituminous sheet in the manufactur-ers original packaging in the manner specified by the manu-facturer. Storage on wood p

16、allets and stacking usually no morethan five rolls high is recommended. Protect against exposureto direct sunlight, precipitation, dust, and other such contami-nants. If inside storage is not available, tarp only with canvastarpaulins; do not use polyethylene or other nonbreathing filmsto cover the

17、packages.7. Safety Precautions7.1 Store flammable materials in a manner that will not posea fire hazard. Solvent-bearing adhesives may be flammable. Donot use flammable materials near an open flame or equipmentthat may produce sparks.8. Environmental Conditions at Time of Application8.1 Environmenta

18、l conditions under which installation mayproceed shall be as recommended by the manufacturer of theadhesive and the sheet. Acceptable weather conditions wouldbe dry enough to allow the mastic to adhere to the substrate,without excessive wind conditions and with surface tempera-tures of the substrate

19、 at 4C 40F or above and rising. Contactthe manufacturer for recommendations whenever weatherconditions raise questions.9. Materials9.1 The waterproofing sheet shall be made using a fabric ofopen weave glass and polyester, or both, which in turn isencapsulated in a chloroprene- and butyl-rubber-modif

20、ied as-phalt that also contains fillers, slow-curing agents, and ultra-violet inhibitors.9.2 The adhesive or mastic shall be made using an asphaltcutback with a Rule-66-type solvent into which has beenblended chloroprene- and butyl-type rubbers for plasticityalong with inorganic fillers and ultravio

21、let inhibitors.10. Substrate Preparations10.1 Contaminants such as dirt, debris, loose materialsmoisture, or surface irregularities that would interfere with thesatisfactory installation and performance of the system shall beremoved. See Guide D5295 for further details about surfacepreparation.11. I

22、nstallation11.1 Apply the adhesive at a rate of 0.5 to 0.6 L/m21.25 to1.5 gal/100 ft2 as a thin coat and allow to dry to a tackycondition before covering with membrane so as to minimizeblistering of the applied membrane. Apply only as muchadhesive as can be covered with membrane before the adhesivel

23、oses its tack. Rub in the membrane by brooming, handrolling,or similar method.11.2 Installation of reinforcement material is required at alltransitions, such as internal and external corners and at staticconcrete construction joints and cracks. Reinforcement is alsorequired where reinforcing bars, p

24、ipes, and conduits penetratethe membrane. The minimum reinforcement is one ply; thepreferred is two plies.11.2.1 Installations of reinforcement membrane applicationsare made before the normal sheet applications.11.2.2 Where additional plies are used for reinforcement,they shall extend at least 150 m

25、m 6 in. beyond the corner orpenetration in each direction; each succeeding ply shall extendat least 75 mm 3 in. beyond the previous ply and shall beadhered to the previous reinforcement layer with additionaladhesive.11.2.3 The details used shall be as presented in GuideD5898, unless otherwise specif

26、ied by the manufacturer ordesigner.11.2.4 All laps are to be inspected and sealed with adhesiveat the rate of 0.2 to 0.3 L/m20.5 to 0.75 gal/100 ft2.11.3 For horizontal surfaces, the membrane sheet is appliedover the completed details on a surface previously coated withadhesive applied at the rate o

27、f 0.5 to 0.6 L/m21.25 to 1.5gal/100 ft2. Although one ply does cover, the use of a secondply is suggested for better protection; this would be appliedover a similar application of adhesive.11.3.1 Apply all sheets from the low point to the high pointso that the laps shed water.11.3.2 Lap all edge sea

28、ms a minimum of 100 mm 4 in. 625 mm 1 in. Stagger all end laps a minimum of 300 mm 12in. Continue the sheets 75 to 100 mm 3 to 4 in. up anyvertical edges already flashed with the system. Place sheetswith special attention so that total contact with the substrate ismaintained, that is, no bridging is

29、 allowed.11.3.3 If this is a single-ply application, uniformly top coatthe applied membrane with the adhesive at the rate of 0.6 to 0.7L/m21.5 to 1.75 gal/100 ft2 as a finish coat.11.3.4 If this is a multiple-ply application, coat the top of thefirst ply with adhesive at the rate of 0.3 to 0.4 L/m20

30、.75 to 1.0gal/100 ft2. Allow to dry to tack. Smoothly embed the secondply. Offset the side laps of the second ply from the first-plysheet joints; offset the end laps a minimum of 100 to 150 mm4 to 6 in. If additional plies are to be installed, follow thesame application of adhesive and displacement

31、of laps as in thesecond ply application. A finish coat shall be applied asdescribed in 11.3.3.11.3.5 Flood testing shall be done before application of thefinal top coat of adhesive. The procedure to be used isdescribed in Guide D5957. The surface of the bituminousmaterial shall have skinned over bef

32、ore water application.11.3.6 If protection board or sheet is to be used, it shall beadhered to the membrane using the adhesive finish coat. If insolid panels, the panels shall be applied in a common brickpattern.11.4 For applications to vertical surfaces, the prefabricatedmembrane shall be applied i

33、n vertical strips, like wallpaper,unless otherwise allowed by the manufacturer or designer.11.4.1 For single-ply applications:11.4.1.1 Uniformly coat the substrate to be waterproofedwith adhesive applied at the rate of 0.6 to 0.7 L/m21.5 to 1.75gal/100 ft2 and allow to dry to tack.D6769/D6769M 02 (2

34、010)1211.4.1.2 Use 1.5- to 2.1-m 5- to 7-ft precut lengths of themembrane coated across the top edge of the sheet with a 100-to 125-mm 4- to 5-in. band of the adhesive. Allow this bandof adhesive to tack before smoothly embedding in the adhesivealready applied to the vertical surface.11.4.1.3 Side l

35、aps over the preceding sheet shall be main-tained at 100 mm 4 in. 6 25 mm 1 in. The bottom end ofthe precut sheet shall extend at least 100 mm 4 in. onto thetop surface of the footer for the first lift and 50 mm 2 in.beyond the horizontal end of the flashing. The bottom edge ofsubsequent lifts shall

36、 extend 100 to 150 mm 4 to 6 in. overthe upper edge of the lower lift.11.4.1.4 At the top edge of the topmost lift, apply a sealingstrip using a 150- to 200-mm 6- to 8-in. wide strip ofmembrane, cut from the lengthwise of the sheet. Apply a thincoat of adhesive at 0.4 to 0.5 L/m21.0 to 1.25 gal/100

37、ft2ofadhesive to the top 100 to 125 mm 4 to 5 in. of the alreadyapplied sheet and bring it up on the uncoated area a similardistance. Apply the prepared sealing strip, rubbing it in well.11.4.2 For multiple-ply applications, check the adhesionsetup of each ply by applying hand pressure to the sheet;

38、 if thesheet moves, delay the next ply application until the first hasset.11.4.2.1 Apply a uniform coat of adhesive to the first ply atthe rate of 0.4 to 0.5 L/m21.0 to 1.25 gal/100 ft2.11.4.2.2 Embed the second ply in the same manner as thefirst ply, staggering the laps so that no lap shall be over

39、 apreceding lap. Side laps shall be 100 mm 4 in. 6 25 mm 1in. Lap over the footer shall extend 75 mm 3 in. beyond theend of the first ply. Overlap of the bottom end of the second liftover the top of the first lift shall be 150 to 200 mm 6 to 8 in.11.4.2.3 If a third ply of membrane is to be applied,

40、 repeatthe steps for the second ply, but being sure no lap is on top ofa previous lap.11.5 Inspection and approval of the waterproofing mem-brane installations shall occur before application of any pro-tective or insulating boards.11.6 To apply insulation, protection board, or sheet over thefinal pl

41、y of waterproofing membrane, a coat of adhesive shallbe applied at the rate of 0.6 to 0.8 L/m21.5 to 2 gal/100 ft2after the membrane applications have become solid. Allow thiscoat to become tacky, then apply the insulation, protectionboard, or sheet and embed it in the tacky adhesive. If no suchprod

42、ucts are to be used, then the coat of adhesive shall beapplied at 0.6 to 0.8 L/m21.5 to 2.0 gal/100 ft2 and allowedto dry before any backfilling occurs.11.7 Backfill vertical waterproofing installations within 24 hof protective board installation and after final inspection andapproval of the install
