6、ing, Textured (For Interior and ExteriorMasonry Surfaces)33. Summary of Practice3.1 Typically 8 by 16 by 2 in. masonry blocks are coatedwith block filler and then coated with the masonry paint andallowed to cure. The coated blocks are then secured to a testapparatus and exposed for 24 h to continuou

Significance and Use4.1 This practice is meant to simulate the ability of a coatingsystem applied to a

8、 masonry block to withstand exposure tocontinuous water spray (rain) and a dynamic pressure equiva-lent to a 98 mph wind velocity without exhibiting water leaksor weight gain, or both.5. Apparatus5.1 The testing box is assembled from transparent plasticpanels12-in. thick and typically of the dimensi

The openings on the top of the apparatus for the air inletand manometer connection shall not be less than 3 in. apart tomake certain that air inlet turbu

A spray tube shall be constructed from12-in. plastic tubing with three fish-tail nozzles.4Attachment tothe testing box includes a water-filled U-tube manometer, source of compressed air, clamps and angle irons for securelyfastening the test panels to the b

Also, illustrated is a simple air pressure regulator consisting of aT-tube with the leg (foot) of the tube placed in a water filledbeaker at a depth of slightly greater than 5 in. This set up is alsoa safety device. Any sudden increase in air pressure will bevented harmlessly.

12、 The apparatus outlined above was derivedfrom that shown in Federal Specification TT-C-555B. Appara-tus and substrates of other dimensions can be used as agreedupon between manufacturer and supplier. The duration ofexposure and water pressure used will also be agreed uponbetween manufacturer and use

19、tions or at a recommended spreading rateof 100 6 10 ft2/gal to three blocks. It may be advisable to usea scrub brush for this application to assure that all the voids inthe block are filled before applying the test coat. Determine thedensity of the block filler in accordance with proceduresoutlined

21、 Allow block filler to dry at least overnight or permanufacturers instructions.8.5 Apply topcoat using a good quality nylon/polyesterbrush over the block filler at the manufacturers recommendedspreading rate. Use the equation outlined in 8.3 to determinethe amount of test paint needed.8.6 Allow test

22、 blocks to dry for seven days at standardconditions, or as agreed upon between manufacturer andsupplier.8.7 The three coated masonry panels to be tested will beplaced against the openings in the test box with the coated sidefacing the spray unit. Either rubber gaskets, a suitable caulkingcompound or

23、 mortite may be used to provide an air and watertight seal. The angle irons shall be positioned and clampedtightly.8.8 The water shall be started through the spray unit at a rateof between 60 and 70 gal/h, as measured by the waterdischarged.8.9 After the drain opening is covered with dischargingwate

24、r, the air supply shall be adjusted so that pressure producedinside will be 5 in. as measured by the manometer. The test isFIG. 1 Dimensions of Test BoxD 6904 03 (2007)2made at 5 in. of water pressure, which is the equivalentdynamic pressure at 98 mph wind velocity.8.10 Expose the test panels for 24

25、 h to the above mentionedconditions, unless there is obvious water penetration of thecoated panels sooner than that. Water penetration will be notedby visible water leaks or if the rear face on the coated block isdamp.8.11 If required, remove the test blocks from the apparatusand determine the gain

26、in weight of the test block.9. Interpretation of Results9.1 The pass/fail criteria will be as agreed upon betweenmanufacturer and user.NOTE 2Federal Specification TT-C-555B, from which this testmethod is derived, was intended for pigmented coatings and required thatthere be no visible water leaks, a
