Scope1.1 This test method covers the degree to which a

3、n emulsi-fied asphalt may contain particles of asphalt or other discreetsolids retained on a 850-m mesh sieve.1.2 This test method does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. 5、estingPurposes3. Significance and Use3.1 The retention of an excessive amount of particles on thesieve indicates that problems may occur in handling andapplication of the material. Particles of asphalt retained on thesieve often are caused by agglomeration of the dispersed phase.Storage, pumping, ha

6、ndling, and temperature can all contributeto the formation of particles. Contamination from the tank,transport, or hose are other factors affecting particle formation.4. Sample Conditioning for Testing4.1 All emulsified asphalts shall be properly stirred toachieve homogeneity before testing.4.2 All

7、emulsified asphalts with viscosity testing require-ments of 50C shall be heated to 50 6 3C in the originalsample container in a water bath or oven. The container shouldbe vented to relieve pressure. After the sample reaches 50 63C, stir the sample to achieve homogeneity.4.3 Emulsified asphalts with

8、viscosity testing requirementsof 25C should be mixed or stirred at 25 6 3C in the originalsample container to achieve homogeneity.NOTE 1Emulsified asphalts with viscosity testing requirements of25C may be heated and stirred as specified in 4.2, if necessary. In theevent the 4.2 method is used, the s

9、ample should be cooled to 25 6 3Cbefore testing.5. Apparatus and Reagents5.1 SieveA sieve having a nominal 76-mm frame con-forming to Specification E11, and having a 850-m wire sievecloth.5.2 PanA tin box cover or shallow metal pan of appro-priate size to fit over the bottom of the standard sieve.5.

10、3 Thermometric deviceASTM 17C for tests at 25C andASTM 19C for tests at 50C, conforming to the requirementsof Specification E1, or any other thermometric device of equalaccuracy.5.4 Nonionic Surfactant Solution (1 %)1 g of nonionicsurfactant (ethoxylated nonylphenol is recommended) dis-solved in dis

11、tilled water and diluted to 100 mL.5.5 Distilled or Deionized Water5.6 Balancescapable of weighing 2000 g to within 61g,and 500 g to within 60.1 g.5.7 OvenCapable of maintaining temperature of 110 65C.5.8 Desiccator.6. 16、 state may beprohibited by state law.7. Procedure7.1 The temperature at which the sieve test shall be per-formed is related to the emulsified asphalts viscosity. For thosematerials whose viscosity in Saybolt Furol seconds as deter-mined by Test Method D 244 is 100 s or less at 25C, performthe test a

17、t ambient temperature. For those materials whoseviscosity is more than 100 s at 25C and those whose viscosityis specified at 50C, use a test temperature of 50 6 3C.7.2 Determine the mass of the sieve and pan to the nearest0.1 g and record this mass as “A”. Wet the wire cloth withnonionic surfactant

18、solution.7.3 Determine the mass of the sample container containingthe emulsified asphalt to 0.1 g. Record this mass as “C”. Pour8001000 g of the emulsified asphalt through the sieve (if thesample container contains 8001000 g of sample, pour theentire contents). Determine the mass of the sample conta

19、inerpreviously containing the emulsified asphalt to 0.1 g. Recordthis mass as “D”. Wash the residue on the sieve with distilledwater or deionized water until the washings run clear.7.4 Place the pan under the sieve and heat for2hina1106 5C drying oven. Cool in a desiccator. Determine the massof the

20、sieve, pan, and residue to the nearest 0.1g. Record thismass as “B”.8.
