15、nations of con-struction variables (e.g., type of fibers, percentage of fibers,yarn twist, yarn number, warp and pick count, chemical andmechanical finishes). Additionally, fashion or aesthetics dictatethat the ultimate consumer may find acceptable articles madefrom fabrics that do not conform to al

16、l of the requirements inTable 1.4.2.1 Hence, no single performance specification can possi-bly apply to all the various fabrics that could be utilized for thisend-use.4.3 The uses and significance of particular properties andtest methods are discussed in the appropriate sections of thespecified test

17、 methods.5. Test Methods (see Note 1)5.1 Breaking StrengthDetermine the breaking strength asdirected in Test Method D 5034, using a constant rate ofextension (CRE) tensile testing machine.NOTE 2If preferred, the use of a constant rate of traverse (CRT)tensile testing machine is permitted. There may

18、be no overall correlationbetween the results obtained with the CRT machine and the CRE machine.Consequently, these two breaking force testers can not be used inter-changeably. In case of controversy, the CRE method (Test MethodD 5034) shall prevail.5.2 Resistance to Yarn SlippageDetermine the resist

19、anceto yarn slippage as directed in Test Method D 434.5.3 Tearing StrengthDetermine the tearing strength asdirected in Test Method D 1424.NOTE 3If preferred, use of Test Method D 2261 is permitted withexisting requirements as given in this standard. There may be no overallcorrelation between the res

20、ults obtained with the tongue tear method (TestMethod D 2261) and the Elmendorf machine (D 1424). Consequently,these two tear testers cannot be used interchangeably. In the case ofcontroversy, Test Method D 1424 shall prevail.5.4 Dimensional Change:5.4.1 Pressing and Finishing During GarmentManufact

21、uringDetermine the dimensional change duringpressing and finishing as directed in AATCC Method 135.5.4.2 LaunderingDetermine the dimensional change afterlaundering as directed in the applicable procedure in AATCCtest Method 135.5.4.3 DrycleaningDetermine the dimensional change af-ter drycleaning as

22、directed in AATCC Test Method 158.NOTE 4Launderable fabrics are expected normally to be drycleaned,except where all or part of the fabric will not withstand drycleaning. Forexample, the fabric could contain a functional finish soluble in the solvent,or the fiber could be degraded by the solvent, whi

23、ch would be the casewith poly (vinyl chloride) fiber.
