Scope1.1 This practice describes a laboratory procedure for de-termining the tendency of polymer to separate from polymer

3、modified asphalt under static heated storage conditions. Theresults of testing on material prepared according to this practicemay be used as a guideline when formulating products or toestablish field handling procedures. Large differences in testresults between top and bottom specimens indicate that

4、 there isa degree of incompatibility between the polymer and the baseasphalt.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. Summary of Practice3.1 A measured quantity of polymer modified asphalt in asealed aluminum tube is conditioned in a vertical position for48 h at a temperature of 163 6 5C. At the

7、end of theconditioning period, top and bottom portions are separated andsubjected to further testing to determine the degree of separa-tion. Tests chosen for this purpose depend on the polymermodification system being evaluated and the type of informa-tion desired by the user. Softening Point (Test

8、Method D36)and DSR (Test Method D7175) are the most common testsused for this purpose.4. Significance and Use4.1 Purchasers of polymer modified asphalt need to be givenguidelines on proper storage and handling procedures tomaintain the integrity of material they have purchased. Thispractice provides

9、 a significant tool for understanding thecharacteristics of these materials as well as comparing varioussources of supply.5. Apparatus5.1 Aluminum Tubes25-mm diameter by 125-mm to140-mm length aluminum separation tubes, used to hold thetest sample during conditioning.35.2 BalanceCapable of being rea

10、d to the nearest 0.1 g.5.3 OvenCapable of maintaining a temperature of 163 65C.5.4 FreezerCapable of maintaining a temperature of -106 10C.5.5 RackCapable of supporting the aluminum tubes in avertical position in the oven and freezer.5.6 ContainersMetal or glass, 100 6 20-mL capacity.5.7 Hammer and

United States16. Procedure6.1 Place the empty aluminum tube in the rack, with sealedend down, or support it some oth

16、er way in a vertical position.6.2 If the sample is not already hot, heat it in the oven at 1636 5C until sufficiently fluid to pour. Stir the sample thor-oughly and pour 50 6 0.5 g into the vertically held tube.Depending on the type of tube used, either fold the excess tubeover two times and crimp t

17、ightly, screw on the cap, insert acork stopper wrapped in aluminum foil, or seal it in some otherway to prevent the introduction of air.6.3 Place the sealed tube assembly in the 163 6 5C oven(other temperatures may be used if deemed more appropriateby all parties). Allow the tube to stand undisturbe

18、d in the ovenfor a period of 48 6 1 h. At the end of the conditioning period,remove the tube from the oven, and place it immediately in thefreezer at -10 6 10C, taking care to keep the tube in a verticalposition at all times. Leave the tube in the freezer for aminimum of4htosolidify the sample compl

19、etely.6.4 Remove the tube from the freezer and place it on a hardflat surface. Cut the section of the tube containing the specimeninto three portions of approximately equal length. A hammerand cutting tool is normally used, but other means areappropriate if they can make a clean separation. Discard

20、thecenter asphalt section, and place the top and bottom portions ofthe tube into separate covered 100 6 20-mL containers. Placethe covered containers in the 163 6 5C oven until the asphaltis sufficiently fluid to remove the pieces of the aluminum tube,but not longer than 30 minutes.6.5 Stir the samp

21、les thoroughly before pouring them up forcomparative testing of the top and bottom portions.7.
