Resistance to abrasion is evaluated by visual inspectionof damage to the specimen or change in weight, as described in Sec

16、tion 14.5. Significance and Use5.1 The resistance of leather to abrasion, as measured on a testing machine in the laboratory, is generally only one of severalfactors contributing to wear performance or durability as experienced in the actual use of the material. While “abrasion resistance”(often sta

17、ted in terms of the number of abrasion cycles) and “durability” (defined as the ability to withstand deterioration or wearout in use, including the effects of abrasion) are frequently related, the relationship varies with different end uses and differentfactors may be necessary in any calculation of

18、 predicted durability from specific abrasion data. This test method provides acomparative ranking of material performance, which can be used as an indication of relative end-use performance.5.2 The resistance of leather to abrasion may be affected by factors including test conditions, type of abrada

19、nt, pressure betweenthe specimen and abradant, mounting or tension of the specimen, and type, kind, or amount of finishing materials.5.3 Abrasion tests utilizing the rotary platform, double-head tester platform abraser may be subject to variation due to changesin the abradant during specific tests.

20、Depending on abradant type and test specimen, the wheel surface may change (that is, becomeclogged) due to the pick up of finishing or other materials from test specimens and must be cleanedresurfaced at regularly definedintervals.5.4 The measurement of the relative amount of abrasion may also be af

Because leather is a naturalproduct, the physical properties may vary depending on location on the hide, side or skin from which the test sample is taken.Random sampling of specimens from
