Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 chemical fusion seams, nuse of a chemical agent todissolve the surface of the geomembrane for bonding.3.1.2 adhesive or bodied solvent, nthese seams are typi-cally produ
8、ced by applying an adhesive to both sides of thesheet to be bonded and then pressure is applied to the top sheetwith the bottom sheet supported by flat a firm surface3.1.3 thermal fusion, n also known as hot air or hotwedge, this technique introduces high-temperature air or gas ora hot wedge between
9、 two geomembrane surfaces to facilitatemelting. Pressure is applied to the top and/or bottom sheets ofthe geomembrane, forcing together the two surfaces to form acontinuous bond.3.1.3.1 DiscussionSome seams of this kind are made withdual bond tracks separated by a non-bonded gap. These seamsare refe
10、rred to as dual track seams or double-track seams3.1.4 hot air or knife, n this technique melts the twogeomembrane surfaces to be seamed by running a hot metalwedge or hot air between them. Pressure is applied to the topor bottom geomembrane, or both, to form a continuous bond.These seams are usuall

16、rative purposes but does notnecessarily measure the ultimate strength that the seam mayacquire.6. Apparatus6.1 Tensile instrumentation shall meet the requirementsoutlined in Test Method D638.6.2 Grip FacesGrip faces shall be a minimum 25 mm (1in.) wide and a minimum of 25 mm (1 in.) in length. Smoot
17、hrubber, fine serrated or coarse serrated grip faces have all beenfound to be suitable for testing geomembrane seams.7. Sample Preparation7.1 Cut a sample large enough to accommodate the removalof five (5) peel specimens and five (5) shear specimens (useFig. 1)NOTE 1Larger samples sizes may be requi
18、red on site specific orproject specific or requirements for the purpose of archiving or third partytesting.7.2 Once the sample is received at the testing facility, thesample shall be acclimated at a standard laboratoryenvironment, Humidity between 50 and 70 % and a tempera-ture of 21.6 62 C (70.6 64
19、 F) for a minimum of 40 hours forall types of seams, except thermo and dielectric type seams, forthese types of seams a minimum of 4 hours at the standardlaboratory environment is required.NOTE 2 If samples are sent to the lab and testing is preformed priorto the required lab acclimating period then
20、 this must be noted on thesample results. However the sample should be at least a minimum of 40hours from the time of fabrication and lab acclimation period should be atleast one (1) hour minimum.8. Specimen Preparation8.1 Cut five specimens in peel and five in sheer as shown inFig. 1.NOTE 3Cut out
21、the 5 peel and 5 shear specimens from the sampletypically across the seam. In some conditions with seams without a crossflap, seams may have to be partially peeled open to initiate a peel test tab.8.2 Use 25.4 mm wide (1 in.) specimens8.3 Five specimens should be tested in 90 degree peel modeand fiv
