Scope1.1 This test method utilizes the grab procedures to deter-mine localized weakness due to bar-tacking in the pocket areasof all types of garments. This ca

9、.1 Constant-rate-of-extension (CRE) tensile testing ma-chine, as used in Test Method D5034, conforming to Specifi-cation D76.5.2 Clamps and jaws, rubber faced or other grippingsurfacejaw faces must measure 1.0 6 0.02 in. (25 6 1mm)wide at least 1 in. (25mm) , perpendicular to the direction ofthe for

10、ce, and not less than 25 nor more than 50 mm ( 1.0 normore than 2.0 in.). The back, or bottom, jaw face of each clampshall be at least as large as its mate. Use of a larger face for thesecond jaw reduces the problem of front and back jaw facemisalignment.6. Safety Precuations6.1 It is the users resp

14、, and Test Units7.1 Cut the garment or the side pockets as shown in Figs.1-4. If multiple samples are available, cut, if possible, aminimum of 3 specimens. If not, test an agreed upon numberof samples.8. Preparation of Apparatus8.1 Tensile Testing Machine:8.1.1 Prepare the machine according to the m

15、anufacturersinstructions.8.1.2 Set the distance between the clamps at 3.0 6 0.02 in.(75 6 1 mm) at the crosshead speed set at 12 in./min (305mm/min).8.1.3 Select the force range of the testing machine for thebreak to occur between 10% and 90% of the full- scale force.Calibrate or verify the testing

16、machine for this range.8.2 Clamping System:8.2.1 Check the jaw face surfaces for flatness and parallel-ism.8.2.2 Make a four-ply sandwich or white tissue paper, twosoft carbon papers placed back to back, and a second whitepaper (or fold the paper over the two carbons).8.2.3 Mount the papercarbon san

17、dwich and examine thejaw face imprint of uniformity of the carbon deposition on thetissue paper.8.2.4 If the imprint is incomplete or offsize, make appro-priate adjustments of the clamping gripping system and re-check the clamping system with a paper and carbon sandwich.NOTE 1Some sources of clampin

18、g irregularities are surface contact,metal surface, or jaw coating over surface, condition and pressureapplication.8.3 Verification of the Total Operating System:8.3.1 Verify the total operating system (loading, extension,clamping, and recording or data collection) by testing speci-mens of standard

19、fabrics for breaking force and compare to thedata with that given for the standard fabric. Prepare, test andcompare the data given from the tested fabric to the given dataknown for the standard test.9. Conditioning9.1 Condition garments for a minimum of 4 h prior totesting at 70 6 2F and 65% 6 2 RH.

Equilibrium is considered to have been reached whenthe mass of the specimen in successive weighing made atintervals of not less than 2 h does not exceed 0.1% of the massof the specimen.10.
