Scope*1.1 This test method covers a procedure for the visualmeasurement of the color of near clear liquids. It is applicableonly to materials in wh
3、ich the color-producing bodies presenthave light absorption characteristics nearly identical with thoseof the Platinum-Cobalt (Pt-Co) color standards used.1.2 This test method has been found applicable to the colormeasurement of clear, liquid samples, free of haze, withnominal Pt-Co color values bet
4、ween 0 and 100. It is applicableto nonfluorescent liquids with light absorption characteristicssimilar to those of the Pt-Co color standard solutions. TestMethods D1209, D1686, and D5386 deal with the visual andinstrumental measurement of near-clear liquids.1.3 In determining the conformance of the
5、test results usingthis method to applicable specifications, results shall berounded in accordance with the rounding off methods ofPractice E29.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard. The comparator should be constructed so that white lightis passed through or reflected off a white glass plate anddirected with equal intensity through the tubes, and should beshielded so that no light enters the tubes from the side.56. 20、ntsReagent grade chemicals shall beused in all tests. Unless otherwise indicated, it is intended thatall reagents shall conform to the specifications of the Commit-tee on Analytical Reagents of the American Chemical Society,where such specifications are available.6Other grades may beused, provided i
21、t is first ascertained that the agent is ofsufficiently high purity to permit its use without lessening theaccuracy of the determination.6.2 Purity of WaterReferences to water shall be under-stood to mean reagent water conforming to Type IV ofSpecification D1193.6.3 Cobalt Chloride (CoCl26H2O).6.4 H
22、ydrochloric Acid (sp gr 1.19)Concentrated hydro-chloric acid (HCI).6.5 Potassium Chloroplatinate (K2PtCl6).6.6 Pt-Co Stock SolutionDissolve 1.245 g of potassiumchloroplatinate (K2PtCl6) and 1.00 g of cobalt chloride(CoCl26H2O) in water. Carefully add 100 mL of hydrochloricacid (HCl, sp gr. 1.19) and
23、 dilute to 1 L with water. Theabsorbance of the 500 Pt-Co stock solution in a cell having a10-mm light path, with reagent water in a matched cell as thereference solution,7must fall within the limits given in Table 1.NOTE 1This stock solution is commercially available from reputablechemical supplier
24、s.6.7 Pt-Co StandardsFrom the stock solution, preparecolor standards in accordance with Table 2 by diluting therequired volumes to 100 mL with water in the Nessler tubes.Cap the tubes and seal the caps with shellac or a waterproofcement. When properly sealed and stored, these standards arestable for

Cap the tube, place in the comparator, and comparewith the standards.9.1.1 For samples between 1 and 20, use standards that are1 Pt-Co color unit apart.9.1.2 For samples between 20 and 100, use stan
33、dards thatare 5 Pt-Co color units apart.10. Report10.1 Report as the Pt-Co color the number of the standardthat most nearly matches the specimen. In the event that thecolor lies midway between two standards, report the darker ofthe two.10.1.1 For samples with a Pt-Co color between 1 and 20,when the
34、color lies midway between two standards, report thedarker of the two.10.1.2 For samples with a Pt-Co color between 20 and 100,when the color lies midway between the two standards,estimate the value.10.2 If, owing to differences in hue between the specimenand the standards, a definite match cannot be
