、nificance and Use4.1 Acoustically absorptive materials are used for the con-trol of reverberation and echoes in rooms. This standardprovides a classification method for acoustically absorptivematerials applied directly to surfaces by trowel or by spray.5. Basis of Classification5.1 Classification is
、 made according to type of material, acoustical properties, flame spread, and dust propensity.5.2 Material TypeClassification of acoustically absorptivematerial according to material type is as follows:5.2.1 Type IMaterial is cementitious. Type I ingredientsshall be uniformly mixed and ready for use
、by the addition ofwater. When received, the material in the container shall be dryand shall not be caked or sticky. After the material has beenproperly mixed with the amount of water specified by themanufacturer, the material shall be of such a consistency that itcan be applied with a plastering tro
、wel or with a suitableplaster-spraying machine.5.2.2 Type II, Material is fibrous. Type II material shallconsist of mineral or organic fiber with an integrally mixedbinder, or it may be supplied for use with a liquid binder addedat the time of application.5.2.3 Type III, Material is cellular plastic
、 and is intended forapplication over beams, walls, ceilings, and columns. Type IIImaterials are normally designed to be mixed at the time ofapplication.5.3 Noise Reduction CoeffcientClassification of acousti-cally absorptive material according to its noise reductioncoefficient (NRC) shall be as foll
