Summary of Practice4.1 Each selected copper piece is drilled by means of acommercial drill press using a3

6、4-in. carbide-tipped, or toolsteel drill bit. The speed of sampling shall be so regulated thatexcessive heating, and consequent oxidation, is avoided.Carbide-tipped tools are recommended. Drill cuttings arecollected with a commercial vacuum cleaner and ground in acutter mill. Sample size reduction i

7、s accomplished with the useof a riffle and Tyler screens.5. Significance and Use5.1 This practice for sampling of cast blister copper isintended primarily to test such materials for compliance withcompositional specifications. It is assumed that all who usethese methods shall be trained samplers cap

8、able of performingcommon sampling procedures skillfully and safely.5.2 The selection of correct test pieces and the preparationof a representative sample from such test pieces are necessaryprerequisites to every analysis. The analytical results will be oflittle value unless the sample represents the

9、 average composi-tion of the material from which it was prepared.6. To obtain a sample r

15、epresentativeof a lot of the product, a number of test pieces should besampled individually. The sample taken should be representa-tive and large enough to suffice for all of the requireddeterminations and reserve material for the settlement ofdisputes.7.1.2 Fit the drilling sequence template to one

16、 edge of theblister copper form. The edges of the template should be evenwith the edges of the blister copper form. One corner of thetemplate should be near one corner of the form and theopposite corner should be near the center of the bar. Thetemplate should cover approximately one-quarter of the s

17、urfacearea of the blister copper form.7.1.3 Chalk the number one hole, then remove the template.Use the center punch and mark the chalked area for drilling.With a high-pressure air hose, blow off the excess chalk anddust particles on the copper form. Care shall be exercised thatforeign material is n

18、ot included with the drilling.7.1.4 Begin drilling the blister copper form in the markedarea. Be careful to keep the drill bit properly aligned. Thespeed of sampling shall be so regulated that excessive heatingand consequent oxidation is avoided.7.1.5 Blister copper drill cuttings, as they are produ

19、ced, arepicked up by a commercial vacuum cleaner and deposited inthe vacuum receiving chamber. Place the 10 3 10 in squarepan under the blister copper form, in line with the drill bit.When the drill bit has completely penetrated the blister form,drill cuttings fall into this pan.7.1.6 Vacuum the bli

20、ster copper drill cuttings, present in thepan, into the vacuum receiving chamber. If a vacuum is notavailable, brush drill cuttings into a receiving pan with a stiff3-in. paint brush.7.1.7 Repeat 7.1.2-7.1.6 for each template location until alleleven holes have been drilled in the same quadrant of e

21、levendifferent blister copper forms.7.1.8 Move the template to the next quadrant location on theblister copper form and repeat steps 7.1.2-7.1.7 for eachremaining quadrant on the copper forms.7.1.9 Repeat 7.1.2-7.1.8 for all copper forms in the grosssample of the lot. Transfer the drill cuttings fro

22、m the vacuumreceiving chamber to a plastic sack-lined bucket. Record allpertinent information on the sample information card and placethe card in the bucket. Place the lid on the bucket and seal it.7.2 Sample Preparation:7.2.1 Adjust the cutter mill to coarse grind. Slowly pour thegross sample into

23、the cutter mill to reduce large conglomeratesof sample. Place the gross sample into the V-blender and blendfor 15 min. Riffle the sample to split the gross sample into twoequal representative fractions, A and B. Place the A incrementinto storage and label, “bulk reserve” sample. Continue to riffleth

24、e B fraction until approximately 4000 g of sample have beenobtained. Place all surplus increment splits from the B fractioninto the A increment bulk storage container.7.2.2 Using the 4000 g B increment sample obtained in7.2.1, place this material into the 20 mesh 12-in. Tyler screen.Place the screen

25、 and its 20 mesh holding pan into a sieveshaker for 15 min. Separate the +20 mesh material, which ispresent upon the 20-mesh screen, from the 20 mesh holdingpan. Regrind the +20-mesh material in the cutter mill until100 % of the +20-mesh material will pass through the 20-meshTyler screen.7.2.3 Sprea

26、d all of the 20-mesh material obtained in 7.2.2in a flat area approximately14 in. deep on the brown Kraftpaper.7.2.4 Comb the spread 20 mesh blister copper materialwith the hand held magnet. Hold the magnet approximately34in. above the flattened material. The magnet will remove asampling bias due to

27、 iron metal shavings from the cutter mill.NOTE 1The magnet also may remove other magnetic material fromthe drill cuttings.Adjust the height of the magnet until only the iron filingsare removed.7.2.5 Place the combed 20 mesh blister copper into the 60mesh Tyler screen. Place the 60 mesh Tyler screen,

28、 blistercopper, and 60 mesh holding pan into the sieve shaker. Shakefor 15 min. Remove the +60 mesh blister copper material.NOTE 2Screen size may be changed by contractual agreement.7.2.6 Weigh in grams, both the +60 mesh and 60 meshblister copper material. Record the weights obtained upon thereceiv

29、ing pulp sacks.7.2.7 By division, split separately the +60 mesh materialand the 60 mesh material with a riffle until the contractuallyagreed laboratory samples can be obtained. The samplesshould be divided into three equal portions, placed in anidentified container and sealed. One portion each shall

30、 bereserved for the manufacturer, purchaser, and umpire.NOTE 3Sample division may be changed by contractual agreement.7.3 Sample StorageMaterial to be stored over a longperiod, which oxidizes readily, or which alters in compositionunder varying atmospheric conditions should be kept under aprotective

31、 gas, such as nitrogen, in an airtight container ofsuitable size and composition. This same storage should beused when contamination by paper or cardboard fibers is aconcern.7.4 ResamplingIn case of dissatisfaction with the sampleprepared from the product, either party may require that theconsignmen

32、t of blister copper be reprepared.8.
