Scope1.1 This specification covers a rigid wall, one-side expand-abl

3、e shelter constructed of aluminum-faced, nonmetallic hon-eycomb sandwich panels, and meeting the International Orga-nization for Standardization (ISO) Cargo Containerspecification in the transport mode. Nominal dimensions whenclosed (container mode) are: height 8 ft, width 8 ft, and length20 ft. (2.

General Requirements3.1 Alternate ComponentsWhen this specification or thereferenced drawings specify use of a specific componen

17、t “orequal,” the contractor may substitute a component equal to thespecified component provided that the contractor complieswith the following requirements. Prior to manufacture of thefirst article, or if none is required, prior to commencingproduction, the contractor shall submit for the purchasers

18、approval a list identifying each proposed “or equal” componenttogether with proof that each listed component is functionallyequal to the specified component and is compatible with theend item covered by this specification. The purchaser, at hisoption, may require a physical sample of any “or equal”c

19、omponent. Approval of the submitted listing and supportingdata authorizes the commencement of fabrication of the firstarticle or of production, as applicable, but does not relieve thecontractor of the responsibility that the “or equal” componentsperform in accordance with specified requirements when

20、incorporated into the end item.3.2 Materials and ComponentsMaterials and componentsshall conform to the documents listed in Section 2 and asspecified herein. Any change to the proposed materials orprocesses must be approved by the purchaser. It is encouragedthat recycled material be used when practi

21、cal as long as itmeets the requirements of this specification.3.3 WorkmanshipThe shelter, including all parts and ac-cessories, shall be constructed and finished in a workmanlikemanner with particular attention given to removal of burrs andsharp edges, accuracy of dimensions, thoroughness of solder-

22、ing, welding, painting, alignment of parts of assemblies, andthe tightness of screws, bolts, and so forth. Gaskets shall not betorn or split and shall be free of finish. Cloth components shallbe clean and free of holes, cuts, or tears.All latches utilized forerection and closing of the shelter shall

23、 be properly adjustedbefore the shelter is prepared for delivery to the purchaser.3.4 RivetingRiveting joints shall be tight. The joined partsshall be undamaged, and the rivet heads shall be properlyseated and tight against the bearing surfaces. All the rivets,except those used in panel bonding, sha

24、ll be dipped inpolysulfide sealant just prior to insertion, however, a dab ofpolysulfide sealant shall be applied to the head of each rivet.3.5 CleaningAfter fabrication, parts shall be cleaned inaccordance with the drawings.3.6 WeldingWelded joints shall be such that grinding ofthe finished weld sh

25、all not be a requirement, except whenspecified on the drawing. Spot, stitch, and seam welds shall beas indicated on the drawings.All surfaces to be welded shall becleaned and free from scale, paint, grease, and other foreignmaterials. Welds shall have thorough penetration, good fusionand shall be fr

26、ee from scabs, blisters, abnormal pock marks,cracks, voids, slag inclusions, and other harmful defects.Welded assemblies shall be cleaned to remove any scale,oxidation products, and excess flux. Any acid used in cleaningshall be completely neutralized and removed. Welders shall becertified in accord

27、ance with SAE-AMS-STD-1595. Weldingequipment and procedures shall conform to SAE-AMS-STD-2219.3.7 FinishCoatings shall level out to an adherent, con-tinuous and uniform film without runs, wrinkles, streaks, orareas of no film. Any coating damaged during assembly orexamination shall be touched up. Th

28、ere shall be no areas ofrust. Finish shall be free of blistering, peeling and chips.3.7.1 Adhesion of PaintThe shelter shall be capable ofwithstanding, without degradation to the finish, the tests asspecified in 7.37. After top coat application, the shelter in thedeployed mode shall be stored for a

29、minimum of 168 h at aminimum of 70F (21C) prior to performing this test.3.7.2 ColorThe color of the paint film shall be comparedwith an appropriate color chip for the paint specified.3.7.3 ThicknessThickness of the paint film shall bechecked as specified in 7.39.3.8 Finish and ColorSurfaces shall be

30、 of the color,treatment, and finish as shown on the drawings. Top coatpainting shall be performed on the fully assembled shelter so asto prevent mismatch of color shading, unless other controltechniques are approved by the purchaser. After top coatapplication, the shelter in the deployed mode (that

31、is, ex-panded) shall be stored in a 70F (21C) minimum temperatureindoor facility for a minimum of 36 h to ensure adequatecoating(s) cure. During this storage period the shelter doorsand vents shall be opened to permit air circulation within theshelter.3.9 ManualsUnless otherwise specified (see 13.2)

32、, tech-nical manuals shall be provided with each shelter. Stowageprovision for the manuals shall be located as shown on theapplicable drawings.3.10 Terminology related to this Specification is defined inTerminology E 1749.4. Design and Construction Requirements4.1 Design and ConstructionDesign and c

33、onstruction ofthe expandable shelter shall conform to the requirementsspecified on the drawings, all subsidiary drawings and partslists and hereinafter. The shelter shall be free of panel delami-nations and shall meet all physical and environmental require-ments specified herein.4.2 Container ModeTh

34、e shelter in the closed or transportmode shall be referred to as a container, hereinafter, for thepurpose of definition. The shelter, in the container mode, shallbe an article of transport equipment meeting ISO freightcontainer requirements related to cargo containers. The sheltershall show no struc

35、tural damage when tested as specified in7.20, 7.22, 7.23, 7.28-7.35 and shall show no leakage whentested as specified in 7.24, 7.24.1-7.24.3. The contractor shallensure that the shelter receives Coast Guard Certification forISO Containers. The container overall dimensions shall be inaccordance with

36、ISO freight container designated IC and are asshown in Table 1.4.3 PanelsThe panels used as structural members in thecontainer configuration shall meet structurally all transporta-tion and environmental requirements specified herein. Eachpanel shall be fabricated as a net panel with aluminumextrusio

37、ns bonded about the panel perimeter during panelE1977052bonding. The inner and outer skins on all joints shall be sealedto provide a water barrier against the entrance of moisture tothe core material and to the interior of the shelter. The waterbarrier is to be maintained intact at all panel cross-s

38、ectionalopenings.All joints and edges shall be assembled and sealed ina manner to prevent collection and retention of moisture.Particular emphasis shall be placed on the sealing of all miteredcorners.All of the above sealing procedures shall be accomplished inaccordance with Practice E 1773.Rivet sh

39、afts shall be coated with sealing compound beforeinsertion. The sealer shall be as indicated on the drawings. Thecontractor shall have the appropriate equipment and facilities,use the correct procedures in accordance with SpecificationsE 874 and E 864, and use qualified panel components (that is,str

40、uctural film and core splice adhesives, corrosion-inhibitingadhesive primer, structural nonmetallic honeycomb core, andas specified 5052-H34 or 6061-T6 aluminum skins, FRPbarrier strips, 6061-T6 panel extrusions). Prior to use, allcritical panel component materials must be qualified in accor-dance w

41、ith Specifications E 865, E 866, E 990, E 1091, andE 1826. There shall be no skin splices in the panels exceptwhere noted on the drawings. Unless otherwise specified (seeX1.2), prior to award of contract, the contractor shall submit tothe purchaser a certified copy of a laboratory test report and ac

42、opy of their process specification covering fabrication of themetallic-faced, nonmetallic honeycomb core sandwich panelsthey propose to use in the construction of the end item. Usingtheir process specification, the contractor shall fabricate quali-fication test sandwich panels and structural film ad

43、hesivefloating roller peel test specimens, and shall perform tests inaccordance with Specification E 865 and Practice E 874 (see13.2).4.3.1 Panel ProcessingThe shelter panels shall be pro-cessed and inspected as specified in Specifications E 864,E 865, E 866,orE 1826 depending upon which primer is b

44、eingused, E 874, E 990, E 1091, and Practice E 1773. The shelterpanels shall be inspected for dimensions and flatness inaccordance with the “Dimensional and Flatness Inspection ofPanel” Section of Practice E 874 (see 10.2).4.3.2 Panel WatertightnessPanel assemblies shall not per-mit the entry of wat

45、er (see 10.3.1) when tested as specified in7.18.4.3.3 Resistance to Thermal ShockPanels shall be resis-tant to thermal shock, when tested as specified in 7.6.4.3.4 Panel InterchangeabilityAll panels and panel as-semblies bearing same part numbers shall be functionally anddimensionally interchangeabl

46、e without modification or rework.Individual assemblies shall not be hand picked for fit orperformance, when tested as specified in 7.7.4.3.5 DelaminationsDelaminations in shelter panels shallbe tested as specified in 10.3.4.4.3.6 Panel Frame Area TightnessWelded panel framesshall be air tight when t

47、ested as specified in 7.40.4.4 InsertsWhen tested as specified in 7.8, the followingsized inserts, where used, shall withstand the torque andpullout loads as specified in Table 2, without failure of theinserts, panel, or potting compound.4.5 PayloadThe unit is designed to carry a maximumpayload of 9

48、480 lb (4300 kg) during transport.4.6 Corner FittingsThe container shall be equipped withcorner fittings at the top and bottom corners in accordance withthe dimensional requirements for corner fittings for series-1freight containers as stipulated in ISO 1161 requirements forcommercial containers. Th

49、e upper faces of the top cornerfittings shall protrude above the top of the rest of the containerby a minimum of14 in. (6 mm) The lower faces of bottomcorner fittings shall protrude below the bottom of the containerby a minimum of716 in. (11 mm).4.7 Shelter ModeThe shelter in the erected mode shall bereferred to as a shelter herein for the purpose of definition.Hinged shelter panels shall be attached in a manner to ensurecompliance with the environmental test requirements as speci-fied in 7.6, 7.13-7.17, 7.24, and 7.26.4.8 Exterior LightingOne area li
