Scope1.1 This guide describes the types of project-specific con-struction conditions that need to be communicated by means ofdrawings (“details”) for the purpo

3、se of constructing ExteriorInsulation and Finish System (EIFS)-clad wall assemblies.EIFS manufacturers provide basic details for the installation oftheir materials and interface with adjacent materials. Thesedetails are generic and, in many cases, do not apply to specificproject conditions.1.2 This

4、guide addresses only the EIFS itself and theinterface between the EIFS and the materials immediatelyadjacent to the EIFS; it does not address all parts of the wallassembly.1.3 Not all possible construction detail conditions are ad-dressed by this guide. Identify and provide details for allconstructi

5、on conditions that exist on a specific building.1.4 This guide is intended to supplement but not supersedeinformation from the EIFS manufacturer about how theirspecific product should be detailed, nor to supersede technicalproduct acceptance reports or the code requirements of regu-latory authoritie

Significance and Use4.1 This guide is for use by individuals and entities involvedwith the design and specification of EIFS details for a specificbuilding.4.2 This guide can be applied to both EIFS-clad barrierwall assembly and EIFS-clad wall with drainage.4.3 This guide can be applied

10、 to new and existing EIFSbuildings, prefabricated versus on-site installed EIFS, andresidential and commercial EIFS buildings.4.4 This guide is not meant to replace the types of informa-tion normally present in text format in a projects specifica-tions.4.5 This guide is not applicable to EIFS materi

11、als used innon EIFS applications, such as a topcoat for other basematerials like traditional Portland cement plaster (stucco) andconcrete.5. Form of Details5.1 Draw details using a drafting style, and at a scale, whichmakes clear the design of the final construction, including thereinforcing mesh, a

12、dhesive layers, and location of the finish.5.2 If necessary, include the sequence by which the assem-bly is constructed in the details, such as by means of a 3-Dstep-by-step sequence of drawings, or some indication of theorder in which the detail is assembled.5.3 Present details in drafting styles (

13、2-D or 3-D, such asisometric, oblique, perspective, etc.) that are consistent withthe need to appropriately convey how the various parts of theconstruction fit together.6. Detailing Principles6.1 The following principles apply when designing details.6.1.1 Terminate the perimeter of the EIFS by wrapp

17、 products.6.1.2 Adhere sealants to the base coat, not the finish coat.Use sealant type acceptable to the EIFS producer and sealantproducer. Use sealant primer, if required by the EIFS producerand sealant producer. Use closed cell type backer rod.6.1.3 Objects are not to be fastened to the EIFS. Fast

18、enobjects through the EIFS into a structural material in thesubstrate. Provide spacers within the EIFS insulation layer toprevent crushing the EIFS when mounting hardware is tight-ened. Seal all fastener holes through the EIFS, using sealant,gaskets, or other suitable material.6.1.4 Shield the EIFS

19、from heat producing devices thatcould damage the EIFS, such as transformers, flues, chimneys,lights, pipes containing high temperature liquids, hot air vents,etc.6.1.5 Provide working sealant filled expansion joints be-tween prefabricated EIFS panels, at floor lines in wood framebuildings, where exp

20、ansion joints occur in the substrate, wherethe substrate type changes, and where significant movementoccurs behind the EIFS.6.1.6 Detail the attachment of the EIFS, and the supportingsubstrate system to withstand applicable wind loads for theproject.6.1.7 Evaluate the use of a particular EIFS on a b

21、uildingrequired to be of noncombustible construction in terms of codecompliance for insulation type, insulation thickness, insulationdensity, acceptable substrate, EIFS attachment method, andEIFS coating types.6.1.8 Detail wall areas that are anticipated to be subject toimpact damage with heavy rein

22、forcing mesh in the base coatand show the location for the installation of the heavyreinforcing mesh.6.1.9 The minimum thickness of the insulation, at any pointin the system, must not be less than34 in.6.1.10 Code requirements establish the maximum thicknessof the insulation, including the use of or

23、namental foam shapes.6.1.11 When possible, detail two parallel facing surfacesand a backer rod for sealant joints instead of fillet type joint. Iffillet type joints are used, detail the installation of a bondbreaker where the two perpendicular surfaces meet.7. Specific Type of Details to be Provided

24、7.1 Provide detail drawings of the construction conditionsthat are present on the specific building. The list below is notall-inclusive, but it gives representative examples of conditionsto be aware of and to provide for.7.1.1 Terminations of the EIFS, such as: at the top, bottom,and side (ends) of

25、EIFS wall assemblies; and at roofs, roofrakes, eaves, parapets, end-of-EIFS-clad wall conditions, open-ings, and bottoms of EIFS walls near grade, decks, andwalkways.7.1.2 Openings through the EIFS, such as: at windows,doors, louvers, vents, and large pipes or ducts.7.1.3 Penetrations through the EI

26、FS, such as: at pipes,conduits, electrical cables, TV wires, deck beams, and scup-pers.7.1.4 Joints in the EIFS, such as: sealant joints, expansionjoints, aesthetic reveals, and control joints.7.1.5 Objects mounted through or in contact with theoutside surface of the EIFS, such as: handrails, flag p

27、olesupports, signage, numbers, fire escapes, and tiles.7.1.6 Treatments to the surface of the EIFS, such as:added-on foam shapes, sloped surfaces, and decorative trim.7.1.7 Interface of sealants with the EIFS and adjacentmaterials, such as: wood, metal, concrete, and masonry.7.1.8 Interface of weath

28、er sealing materials, such as: flash-ings, sealing tapes, films, and coatings, that are in contact withor adjacent to the EIFS.7.1.9 Means by which the continuity of the water-resistantbarrier is achieved, for EIFS with drainage, such as: atopenings, joints, penetrations, and end dams and flashings.

29、7.1.10 Means by which the weather resistance of the wall isachieved at penetrations, such as: scuppers; windows; doors;deck beam penetrations; wall-roof interface, including waterdiverters; decks; and pipes.7.1.11 Means by which the EIFS is protected, if necessary,from excessive heat due to solar ra

30、diation, hostile environmen-tal conditions, and heat-producing equipment.7.1.12 Means by which EIFS is protected against damagedue to impact or abrasion, such as: at walkways, near doors, atroofs, on sloped surfaces, and at decks. Consider using separatebarriers to protect the EIFS, such as: guardra

31、ils, instead ofincorporating stronger materials within the wall assembly.7.1.13 Means by which EIFS is protected at locations nearthe ground from effects such as: termites, snow, ice, and water.7.1.14 Show locations of various colors and textures of theEIFS finish coat on the elevation on buildings

32、with more thanone color or texture.7.1.15 For EIFS with drainage, show the location of outletsfor the drainage cavity on the elevations.7.2 When an EIFS producers standard guideline details areused, incorporate or refer to them on the drawings. If they arenot shown on the drawings, and are referred-

33、to only, cite theEIFS producers detail name and other identifying information,including source and date of publication.8.
