Summary of Practice4.1 The intent of this practice
8、 is to provide uniform guid-ance for the physical placement of a supplemental label onequipment in the possession or control of an entity.5. Significance and Use5.1 There is no consistent method for the physical place-ment of an identifying label on equipment in the possession ofan entity.5.2 This p
9、ractice is intended to expedite and improve thephysical inventory and self-assessment processes and otheroccasions in which the instant identification of equipment isneeded for purposes of control, management, or determiningownership, or a combination thereof.5.3 The further intent of this practice
10、is to reduce theadministrative costs associated with activities requiring equip-ment identification, that is, physical inventory, self-assessments, and audits and to supplement Practice E2279,Practice E2452, and MIL STD 130.6. Procedure6.1 When space allows, the label shall be physically placedon th
11、e equipment item so that it directly faces the user. Thelabel shall be consistently placed, that is, placed in the samelocation or approximate location, does not overlay the OEMmarking, and can be conveniently read. The placement andreading of the tag should not require movement or the propertynor d
12、isrupt any processing that it supports. 15、 physicallyplaced on the front right side of the equipment, or the rear forrack mounted equipment. The label shall be consistentlyplaced, that is, placed in the same location or approximatelocation, does not overlay the OEM marking, and can beconveniently read. (See Fig. 2.)6.3 If for any reason the
16、 supplemental label is necessary butphysically impractical, the same information should be affixedto a protective covering or by a temporary bond, such as a shoetag, and shall be contained in the equipment record.
