Scope1.1 This practice describes the differentiation, identification,and categorization criteria for tooling, both unique and moregeneral in nature. The

3、 physical markings should allow for oneor more of the following to be ascertained: part number, serialnumber, ownership, revision, or symbology, or combinationthereof.1.2 Definitions for the unique subcategories that make upthe tooling family will be described. These subcategories helpto differentia

4、te tooling categories for use in identification,control, and record keeping.1.3 This practice is intended to be applicable and appropri-ate for all entities that hold tooling regardless of ownership oracquisition methodology. This practice further provides thedetailed information to provide the flex

5、ibility of commonnomenclature, identification, and tracking of unique tooling.1.4 Items not covered but defined by this practice include,but are not limited to: consumable property, special testequipment (STE), plant equipment, general or special machin-ery equipment, and expendable tools.1.5 This s

9、apitalassets when company owned and over the established entitycapital threshold; also known as special tooling.3.1.2 Other tooling types:3.1.3.1 expendable (tools), nproperty that can be con-sumed or become scrap as a result of intended use like drillbits.3.1.3.2 hand tools, ntools that are smaller

10、 in size, com-mercial off-the-shelf products typically stored and controlledby the mechanic/technician that the individual deploys asnecessary, often without other administrative controls: ham-mers, screwdrivers, wrenches, planers, rake, shovels, and soforth; may be powered by hand, battery, electri

11、city, etc.3.1.3.3 machined tools, nbrake dies, joggle dies, joggleblocks, etc., which are usually considered part of or anaccessory of the actual machine and not special to one peculiarproduct.3.1.3.4 standard tooling, ncommercial off-the-shelf prod-ucts for use in the manufacturing process (for exa

12、mple, drills,reamers, power saws, riveting tools, etc.); tooling that is oftenpooled and issued as required for the manufacturing process.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 installation kit tools, ninstallation-type tools that areusually delivered with the product to the custom

13、er; typicallyconsidered issued material or components of the installationkit.3.2.2 manufacturing/shop aids, nan aid made for themanufacturing process that is used to assist in the drilling,layout, and positioning of a part (for example, shim, plate,etc.); items of benefit to the mechanic/technician

14、that aretypically not called out in the manufacturing specifications.3.2.3 tool number, nprimary identifier/part number,which often matches the part number or product number forwhich it is used to make.3.2.4 tool serial, nnumerical unique identifier assigned inthe manufacturing process of the tool,

Significance and Use4.1 The categorization and identification of tooling has awide range of advantages to assist in maintaining an uninter-rupted, productive, and cohesive business practice. Theseinclude, but are not limited to, identifying operation criticalite

20、ms, increasing tool utilization, and helping to allocateresources and manage production.4.2 Tooling has a wide range of applications. This practiceis intended to clarify the differences between the differentgroups of tooling and provide identification symbolism forstandard communication across indus

21、tries.4.3 The identification of unique tooling reflected in thispractice will provide inclusive and comparative insight into theavailability regardless of ownership or acquisition methodol-ogy, tooling type, specifics of its internal assignment and use,or possible future requirements. This identific

22、ation combina-tion allows the shop floor to identify readily the family of toolsrequired in the manufacturing process and recall readily thecorrect tool for usage.5. Categorization, Identification, and Control of Tooling5.1 The following criteria constitute characteristics thatdistinguish and differ

23、entiate ordinary tooling from uniquetooling:Unique tooling is specialized in nature,Unique tooling is used for the development, production, or servicesof particular supplies or parts, andUnique tooling performs a particular functionality, and is uniquelydesigned for that part or product.5.1.1 Other

24、tooling categories that may be administrativelytracked and identified individually only as necessary for theoperation, if under the enterprise capital threshold (PracticeE2279) include:Tools that require calibration,Standard tools,Hand tools,Expendable tools,Installation kit tools,Machined tools, an

25、dManufacturing shop aids.5.1.2 Identification and control should be to the level bothprudent and necessary to the scope or business in conjunctionwith cost of control considerations and risk factors.5.2 If items in the other tooling categories are determined toneed to be administratively controlled,

26、 they can be assigned aunique identification number (for example, bar code, etc.). Keydata elements are often the manufacturers name, model, orpart number, or combination thereof.5.3 Identification of unique tooling will be all inclusive foritems owned by the entity as well as items not owned by the

27、entity.5.3.1 Unique tooling, regardless of ownership, may include,but are not necessarily limited to (also see Appendix X1):Assembly jigs,Fixtures,Patterns,Dies,Molds, andGauges.5.3.2 The data elements that create unique identification forunique tooling and are used in combination with each other to

28、equal a unique individual tool (see Section 3 for definition) are:Tool number,Tool symbol (see 3.2.6), andTool series/multi. (see 3.2.5).5.3.3 Other associated key information:Tracking identification number (for example, barcode, etc.), andManufacturers name.5.4 Available tooling includes all on han

29、d items, includingthose not currently in use to the extent that the tooling has beenidentified and is tracked or pooled.6. Usage6.1 The identification method outlined by this practice canbe used to determine unique identification of tooling for use intracking and controlling tooling.6.2 An entity ma

30、y identify unique tooling available tosupport the goals and mission of the entity and, over time,leverage this information to enhance performance.6.3 The tooling identification and categorization defined(regardless of ownership) provides a framework that may beused to communicate clearly and consist
