、 Seismic Zones3 earthquake; seismic; seismic re-straint; suspended ceilingAPPENDIX(Nonmandatory Information)X1. COMMENTARYX1.1 Recommendations in previous versions of this practicewere based in part on testing done in the 1980s. This, coupledwith general observations from the earthquake prone areas

、 preventdropout,X1.2.2 Minimum strength requirements for splices andcross/runner/main runner intersections, andX1.2.3 Spreader bars and independent support of suspen-sion member terminal ends at wall closures which preventpanel dropout if the perimeter suspension terminal end slips offof the closure

、 support ledge.X1.3 These observations have lead to the requirement forsafety wires on light fixtures and minimum connectionstrengths in Practice E580/E580M. This also led to the require-ment for 2-in. 50 mm perimeter support ledger and therequirement for independent support of terminal ends ofsuspe

、nsion members.X1.4 Advent of International Building Code has raised theawareness of seismic installation requirements in areas withinthe United States where these requirements traditionally werenot a concern.X1.5 The introduction of non-traditional ceiling made ofwood and metal, as well as ceilings

There has beenalso a general concern over the interaction of the ceiling systemwith HVAC components, lights and sprinklers. This coupledwith the coming of next gen
