17、ts are also immediately adjacent to one anotheraround the circular pattern as shown in Fig. 1 (compare withalternating thermoelement configuration in Fig. 2).3.2.1.1 DiscussionBy default, a multi-pair cable with athermoelement in the center must be considered an adjacentconfiguration.3.2.2 alternati

18、ng thermoelement configuration, nthermo-element configuration within a multi-pair cable where positivethermoelements and negative thermoelements alternate aroundthe circular pattern as shown in Fig. 2 (compare with adjacentthermoelement configuration in Fig. 1).3.2.2.1 DiscussionIn an alternating th

19、ermoelement pat-tern, there are never two or more positive thermoelements nortwo or more negative thermoelements immediately adjacent toone another.3.2.3 lot, na quantity of finished mineral-insulated, metal-sheathed thermocouple cable manufactured from tubing fromthe same heat, wire from the same s

Significance and Use4.1 Therm

21、ocouple Cable may be Used as Follows:4.1.1 Sheathed thermocouple cable for use in manufacturingthermocouples (see Specification E 608/E 608M).4.1.2 Sheathed thermocouple cable for use as extensioncable in extremely harsh environments.5. Ordering Information and Basis for Purchase5.1 The purchasing d

22、ocuments shall specify the followingoptions:5.1.1 The total length of finished thermocouple cable andthe length of each piece of finished thermocouple cable.5.1.2 The type and quantity of thermoelements, the thermo-element configuration (see 3.2.1 and 3.2.2), and the toleranceon initial values of em

23、f versus temperature if other thanstandard (see 6.2). Consult individual manufacturers for thenumber of thermoelements limited by cable size.5.1.3 The kind of sheath material (see 7.3) and whether itshall be seamless or welded and drawn. Note that other sheathmaterial may be used with purchaser and

24、producer agreement.5.1.4 The nominal outside diameter of the sheath (see 6.3).5.1.5 The kind of ceramic insulation (see 7.2). Note thatother insulation composition and impurity levels may be usedwith purchaser and producer agreement.5.1.6 The intended operating temperature range of the cable(see 9.8

25、).5.1.7 The kind of end seal applied to the open ends, prior toshipment (see 11.1).5.1.8 Supplementary testing or material requirements (seeSupplementary Requirements).5.1.9 The quality assurance or verification program require-ments or both (see Appendix X1).5.1.10 Any deviations from this specific

26、ation or the refer-enced documents.6. General Requirements6.1 Mineral-Insulated, MetalSheathed ThermocoupleCableCable shall be in accordance with this specification(see Fig. 3). This figure describes a cable with two thermoele-ments, but more than two thermoelements may be specified.6.2 Tolerances o

27、n Initial Values of Emf versusTemperatureThe standard tolerances of Specification E 230apply unless otherwise stated in the ordering information.6.3 DimensionsThe dimensional and tolerance require-ments for sheath diameter and wall thickness, thermoelementdiameter, and insulation thickness depicted

28、in Fig. 3 shall bebased on nominal sheath outside diameters. The preferredcable sizes are listed in Table 1. For any nominal sheath size,the outside diameter tolerance, A, shall be 60.025 mm 0.001in. or 61 %, whichever is greater. The wall thickness, B, shallbe at least 10 % of the nominal sheath ou

29、tside diameter andshall be uniform within 20 % of the minimum required wallthickness. The thermoelement diameters, D, shall be at least15 % of the nominal sheath outside diameter if two thermo-elements are included, at least 12 % of the nominal sheathoutside diameter if four thermoelements are inclu

30、ded, or atleast 9 % of the nominal sheath outside diameter if sixthermoelements are included. All thermoelement diametersshall be uniform within 20 % of their minimum requireddiameters. The insulation thickness, C, either thermoelement tothermoelement or thermoelement to inside surface of thesheath,

32、luded, at least 5.5 % ofthe nominal sheath outside diameter if four thermoelements areincluded, or at least 4 % of the nominal sheath outside diameterif six thermoelements are included. The inside sheath diameteris equal to Diameter A minus two times dimension B. Dimen-sions shall be measured in acc

33、ordance with Test Methods E839. The minimum dimensional requirements for sheath wallthickness, thermoelement diameter, and insulation thicknessare summarized in Table 2. The purchaser need only specifythe outside diameter and number of thermoelements in theordering documents.6.4 MaterialsThe thermoc

34、ouple cable shall be fabricatedfrom component parts specified in Section 7.6.5 Insulation Resistance at Room TemperatureThe mini-mum electric insulation resistance between thermoelementsand between each thermoelement and the sheath (at roomtemperature) shall be as specified in Table 3, for the volta

35、gesnoted. The values of insulation resistance, given in megohms,shall apply to the supplied lengths. See Test Methods E 780and E 839.6.6 Minimum Insulation DensityThe minimum density ofthe compacted electric insulation shall be 70 % of the maxi-mum theoretical density which is 3580 kg/m30.129 lb/in.

36、3for MgO, and 3970 kg/m30.144 lb/in.3 for Al2O3.6See alsoSupplementary Requirement S6.1.6.7 Sheath ConditionThe sheath shall be free of visiblesurface contaminants and oxidation. The sheath shall be in thefully annealed state for Type E, J, K, and N thermocouplematerial. For Type T material, the she

37、ath shall be annealed tothe extent that the thermoelements will permit. Tests forproving conformance are in Supplementary Requirement S2 orS9.6.8 Sheath IntegrityThe sheath of the finished thermo-couple cable shall exclude gases and liquids. There shall be noholes, cracks, or other void defects that

38、 penetrate through thesheath wall. Tests for proving conformance to this requirementare in Supplementary Requirement S3.6.9 Quality verification requirements are specified on anoptional basis. The purchaser may require material traceability,as desired (see Appendix X1).6.10 The tests as specified in

39、 the body of this specificationare the minimum to determine if the specification requirementshave been met. Additional optional supplementary require-ments are listed in the Supplementary Requirements sectionand may be included in the purchasing order requirements, asdesired by the purchaser.7. Mate

40、rial Requirements7.1 Thermoelements:7.1.1 The thermoelements shall be solid wire, round in crosssection.7.1.2 The thermoelements shall only be of thermoelectrictypes: E, J, K, N, or T. All wire used for fabrication shall meetthe supplemental cleanliness requirements of SpecificationA 632, except tha

41、t acetone or any other solvents that mightleave a harmful residue shall not be used for final cleaning.7.1.3 The emf versus temperature relationship shall meetthe initial calibration tolerance of 6.2.7.2 Insulation:7.2.1 The insulation shall only be magnesia (MgO) oralumina (Al2O3) conforming to Spe

42、cification E 1652. Unlessotherwise agreed upon between the purchaser and the producer,only Type 1 magnesia or Type 1 alumina shall be used.7.3 Sheath Material:7.3.1 The sheath material may be seamless or welded anddrawn tubing of austenitic stainless steel, or heat-resistantnickel-chrome alloy.7.3.2

48、nts imposed by 6.7 are satisfied.7.3.5 Each piece of tubing used in the fabrication ofthermocouple material shall meet the supplemental cleanlinessrequirements of Specification A 632, except that acetone or anyother solvents that might leave a harmful residue shall not beused for final cleaning.8. P

49、rocessing Requirements8.1 The producer is responsible for raw materials and allprocessing to ensure that the overall requirements of thisspecification are met. The producer is also responsible for thequality of the finished product.9. Quality Verification and Test Requirements9.1 The following tests are required for all thermocouplecable furnished under this specification:9.1.1 Dimensional inspection,9.1.2 Insulation resistance at room temperature,9.1.3 Calibration, and9.1.4 Electrical continuity.9.2 DocumentationCertificate of conformance in accor-d
