Significance and Use3.1 The data generated by this test method shall be used todetermine whether low embrittling cadmium plated parts areliable to be corroded or damaged by application of the testmaterial during routine maintenance operatio

Apparatus4.1 Wide Mouth Sealable Glass Jar or Stoppered Flask,having a capacity so chosen that specimens will remain fullyimmersed in a vertical position and not in contact with otherspecimens during the test and the ratio of area of immersedmetal to the volume of solution will be as prescribe
8、d in 9.1.(WarningSome aircraft maintenance chemicals whenheated have high vapor pressures or may produce gases duringtesting. Suitable precautions should be taken to prevent thecontaining vessel from exploding or the vessel should be sochosen as to withstand the resulting pressures.)4.2 Constant Tem

Test Specimens7.1 The t
15、est specimens shall be made of 4130 steel Condi-tion N in accordance with SAE-AMS-6345, measuring 25.4 by50.8 by 1.22 mm (1 by 2 by 0.048 in.) and cadmium plated inaccordance with MIL-STD-870, Type I, Class1.7.2 Three replicates should be tested in each concentrationof maintenance chemicals solution
16、 as prescribed in 9.2.8. Precleaning Test Specimens8.1 Using a stiff bristle brush, brush off loose cadmiumplate. Be careful to brush only as hard as is required to removethe loose cadmium plate. Immerse the test specimens in abeaker of methyl npropyl ketone5and swab the surface of theindividual spe
17、cimen thoroughly using clean forceps to hold thetest specimen and the cotton swab.8.2 Shake off excess solvent. Transfer and immerse the testspecimens separately several times in a beaker of methyln-propyl ketone.8.3 Shake off excess methyl n-propyl ketone and dry in anoven at 110 6 2C (230 6 4F) fo

Test Conditions9.1 Ratio of Area of Immersed Metal to Volume ofSolutionThe ratio of the area of immersed metal to volumeof solution shall be 25 mL of solution per 625 mm2(1 in.2)ofspecimen surface.9.2 Solution ConcentrationUnless otherwise specified,test the specimens in solutions of the ma
19、intenance chemicals inthe concentrated as-received condition and at the recom-mended use dilution, using water to dilute the material undertest. (For solid materials concentrated condition shall mean onepart solid to five parts by weight of diluent.) In case thematerial is not soluble at the recomme
20、nded dilution, record thisfact and continue with the test.9.2.1 If water is not used as the diluent, record the type andspecification of diluent used in the test.9.3 TemperatureUnless otherwise specified, the test tem-perature shall be 35 6 1C (95 6 2F).9.4 Test DurationUnless otherwise specified, t
21、he testperiod shall be 24 h.10. Procedure10.1 Dry the precleaned specimens at 110C (230F) for 1h, allow to cool to room temperature in a desiccator, thenweigh to the nearest 0.1 mg.10.2 Transfer the specimens to the vessel containing thepreheated maintenance chemical solution. Seal the test vesselto
22、 prevent loss of vapor. Maintain at the required temperatureand expose for a period of 24 h.10.3 Remove the specimens at the end of the exposureperiod and proceed as follows:10.3.1 Hold the specimen in forceps and rinse thoroughly ina 1-L beaker into which tap water is flowing rapidly.10.3.2 Rinse t
23、horoughly in water at room temperature.10.3.3 Rinse with a stream of acetone from a wash bottle.Shake free from acetone and dry.10.3.4 Place the specimens in an oven at 110 6 2C (230 64F) for 1 h and allow to cool to room temperature in adesiccator.10.3.5 Reweigh the specimens to the nearest 0.1 mg

Report11.1 Report the following data for each test performed:11.1.1 Name and type of maintenance chemical tested.11.1.2 Concentrations and diluent used.11.1.3 Number of specimens tested.11.1.4 Temperature and duration of test.11.1.5 Average weight loss in milligrams per 24 h.11.1.6 Ran
