3、nce specification identifies minimumflame resistance, construction, durability, and labeling require-ments of textiles and subassemblies used in the manufacture ofprotective clothing worn by electrical workers to protectagainst exposure to momentary electric arc flash and relatedthermal hazards.1.1.

4、1 This performance specification does not addresscoated or laminated fabrics commonly used for rainwearapplications in an arc hazard environment.1.2 This performance specification defines minimum gar-ment manufacturing and labeling requirements to allow usersto select garments with appropriate elect

5、ric arc ratings forprotection from their determined electric arc flash hazardenvironment.1.2.1 A prior determination of the electric arc flash hazardenvironment is required in order to select appropriate protec-tive garments. This prior determination is outside the scope ofthis specification.1.2.2 T

6、he care and maintenance requirements for electricarc flash protective garments are outside the scope of thisstandard.1.3 This standard should be used to evaluate and describethe properties of materials, products, or assemblies in responseto heat and flame under controlled laboratory conditions. Itsh

7、ould not be used to describe or appraise the fire hazard orfire risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fireconditions.1.3.1 The results of this evaluation may be used as elementsof a fire-risk assessment that takes into account all of thefactors that are pertinent to an assessment o

Significance and Use4.1 This performance specification provides performanceproperties for textile materials used in wearing apparel thatrepresent initial minimum requirements for basic protectionlevels.4.1.1 The performance properties have been selected basedon mater

42、ials in use and take into consideration durabilityrequirements for specific apparel.4.2 Work practices vary from user to user depending uponmany factors. These may include, but are not limited to,operating system voltages, construction design, work proce-dure or techniques, and weather conditions. T

43、herefore, exceptfor the restrictions set forth in this performance specificationbecause of design limitations, the use and maintenance of thisequipment is beyond the scope of this performance specifica-tion.4.2.1 It is common practice and the responsibility of the userof this type of protective equi

44、pment to prepare completeinstructions and regulations to govern in detail the correct andsafe use of such equipment.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Material tests shall be performed on textile materials asthey are delivered to the clothing manufacturer.5.1.1 Material tests may be performed on sample

45、s takenfrom finished garments.5.2 Lot size for the initial (without laundering) flammabilitytest shall be 4572 m (5000 yd) of manufactured fabric or themanufactured yardage, whichever is less. One sample of 1.0 mshall be taken from each lot.5.3 Lot size for all other tests except design tests shall

46、be 45720 m (50 000 yd) or at least every three months, whichever ismore frequent. One sample of 4.0 m shall be taken from eachlot.5.4 Design tests shall be run on the original and whenchanges are made to flame resistant textile materials, forexample, fiber type, yarn type, weaving style, fabric weig

47、ht,dyeing, or finishing procedure.6. Requirements6.1 Thread, findings, and closures used in garment construc-tion shall not contribute to the severity of injuries to the wearerin the event of a momentary electric arc and related thermalexposure.6.1.1 Sewing thread utilized in the construction of gar

48、mentsshall be made of an inherently flame-resistant fiber and shallnot melt when tested at a temperature of 260C (500F) inaccordance with Federal Test Method Standard 191A, 1534.6.1.2 When fasteners or closures, for example, zippers,snaps, or buttons, or a combination thereof, are used in amanner in

49、 which they are in contact with the skin, they canincrease heat transfer and burn injury due to heat conduction ormelting onto the skin. Fasteners or closures that are used in thismanner shall be covered with a layer of material between thefastener or closure and the skin. The material used for thispurpose shall meet the requirements of this performancespecification.6.2 The properties of materials for basic protection levelwearing apparel shall conform to the specifications in Table 1,Table 2 and Table 3 when evaluated in accordance with Section7.NOTE 1
