12、onsisting of an essentially smooth waterway bracedcircumferentially or spirally with projections or ribs that arejoined by an essentially smooth outer wall (see Fig. 1).4. Significance and Use4.1 The requirements of this specification are intended toprovide pipe and fittings suitable for nonpressure

Material5.1 Basic MaterialsThe pipe and fittings shall be made ofPVC plastic having a minimum cell classification of 12454 or12364 as defined in Specification

17、D 1784. Homopolymer PVCcompounds must meet or exceed the requirements of the abovelisted minimum cell classification number.5.2 Rework MaterialClean rework material generatedfrom the manufacturers own pipe or fittings production maybe used by the same manufacturer provided pipe or fittingsproduced m

18、eet all the requirements of this specification.5.3 GasketsElastomeric gaskets shall comply with therequirements described in Specification F 477.5.4 LubricantThe lubricant used for assembly shall besuitable for use with PVC pipe and elastomeric seals for thisapplication and have no detrimental effec

19、t on the gasket or onthe pipe.6. Joining Systems6.1 Gasketed JointThe integral bell gasketed joint, cou-pling, or fitting joints shall be designed so that when as-sembled, the gasket (which is attached to either the bell or thespigot) will be compressed radially on the pipe spigot or in thebell to f

20、orm a water-tight seal. The joints shall be designed tocomply with and show no sign of leakage when tested inaccordance with 7.7 when assembled with pipe for which theyare intended.6.2 Couplings shall form a water-tight seal when assembledwith plain end pipe and show no sign of leakage when testedin

21、 accordance with 7.7 when assembled with pipe for whichthey are intended.NOTE 3The outside diameters of products manufactured to thisspecification are not specified and therefore joint compatibility should bereviewed.6.3 The joint shall be designed to avoid displacement of thegasket when assembled i

22、n accordance with the manufacturersrecommendation.6.4 The assembly of joints shall be in accordance with themanufacturers recommendations.7. Requirements7.1 WorkmanshipThe pipe and fittings shall be essentiallyuniform in color, opacity, density, and other properties. Theinside and outside surfaces s

23、hall be semimatte or glossy inappearance and free of chalking, sticky, or tacky material. Thesurfaces shall be free of excess bloom; that is, slight bloom isacceptable. The pipe walls shall be free of cracks, holes,blisters, voids, foreign inclusions, or other defects that arevisible to the naked ey

24、e and that may affect the wall integrity.Bloom or chalking may develop in pipe exposed to direct raysof the sun (ultraviolet radiant energy) for extended periods andconsequently these requirements do not apply to pipe afterextended exposure to direct rays of the sun.7.2 Pipe Fitting Dimensions:7.2.1

25、 DiameterThe inside diameter of the pipe shall meetthe requirements given in Table 1 when measured in accor-dance with 8.4.1.7.2.2 Wall ThicknessThe minimum wall thickness of thewaterway of pipe and fittings fabricated from pipe sectionsshall meet the requirements given in Table 1 when measured inac

26、cordance with 8.4.2. The wall thickness of fittings fabricatedfrom pipes meeting the requirements of Specification F 679 arealso satisfactory.7.2.3 Bell Wall ThicknessIn the case of belled pipe andfittings fabricated from pipe sections, the thickness of the wallin the bell shall be considered satisf

27、actory if it was formedfrom pipe meeting the previous requirements. For reducingfittings or those with smaller inlets, the minimum wall thick-ness for each inlet shall be no less than the minimum wallthickness for that size pipe.7.2.4 Fittings:7.2.4.1 Molded FittingsMolded fittings conforming to the

33、apter bell shall be considered satisfactory ifformed from pipe meeting the previous requirements.7.2.4.2 Fabricated FittingsFabricated fittings shall bemade from the pipe meeting the requirements of this specifi-cation, or Specification F 679. Fabricated fittings with solventcement components shall

34、be made in accordance with PracticeD 2855 and taking cognizance of Practice F 402. Unreinforcedsolvent cement mitred joints shall not be used. Fabricatedjoints shall be adequately lapped or fusion butt welded and,when needed, additionally reinforced.NOTE 4A fabricated fittings standard is currently

35、being developed byASTM Subcommittee F17.10.7.3 Pipe FlatteningThere shall be no evidence of split-ting, cracking, breaking, or separation of ribs or seams whenpipe is tested in accordance with 8.5.7.4 Pipe Impact StrengthThe impact strength shall not beless than the values shown in Table 2 when test

36、ed in accor-dance with 8.6.NOTE 5This requirement is intended only for use as a quality controltest, not a simulated service test.7.5 Pipe StiffnessPipe stiffness values for the pipe shallcomply with Table 1 when tested in accordance with 8.7.7.6 GasketsGaskets shall meet the low head applicationreq

37、uirements of Specification F 477 and be molded into acircular form or extruded to the proper section and then splicedinto circular form.7.7 Joint TightnessAll joints shall show no signs ofleakage when tested in accordance with Specification D 3212and Fig. 2. All surfaces of the joint upon which the

38、gasket maybear shall be smooth and free of imperfections, ridges, frac-tures, or cracks that could adversely affect sealability.7.8 Acetone ImmersionThe pipe shall meet the require-ments as defined in Test Method D 2152 when tested inaccordance with 8.8.NOTE 6This is intended only for use as a quali

39、ty control test and notfor use as a simulated service test.7.9 Air TestWhen pipe is made in such a manner that aseam or exposed channel is present, each length shall pass a3.5-psi air test in accordance with 8.9.7.10 Exposed ChannelsCut exposed channels of closedprofile pipe shall be sealed with a m

40、aterial to provide anadequate seal to prevent infiltration and exfiltration and beresistant to sewer and drainage environments.8. Test Methods8.1 Conditioning:8.1.1 Referee TestingWhen conditioning is required forreferee tests, condition the specimens in accordance withProcedure A of Practice D 618

41、at 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C) and50 6 5 % relative humidity for not less than 40 h prior to test.Conduct tests under the same conditions of temperature andhumidity, unless otherwise specified.8.1.2 Quality Control TestingCondition specimens for aminimum of4hinairor1hinwater at 73.46 3F (23 6 2C).Test the

42、 specimens at 73.4 6 3F without regard to relativehumidity.8.2 Test ConditionsConduct tests in the standard labora-tory atmosphere of 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C) and 50 6 5%relative humidity, unless otherwise specified in the test meth-ods or in this specification. In cases of disagreement, thetolerances

43、shall be 61.8F (61C) and 62 % relative humid-ity.8.3 SamplingThe selection of the samples of pipe shall beas agreed upon between the purchaser and the seller. In case ofno prior agreement, any sample selected by the testing labora-tory shall be deemed adequate.8.4 Dimensions:8.4.1 Inside DiameterDet

44、ermine the average inside diam-eter using an internal micrometer or telescoping gage accurateto 60.001 in. (60.02 mm). Take sufficient readings, a mini-mum of four, to ensure that the maximum and minimum havebeen determined. Calculate the average diameter as the arith-metic mean of the diameters mea

45、sured. As an alternativemethod, an inside-diameter-type circumferential tape may beused if proper care is taken to align it at right angles to the pipeaxis. A tapered plug gage as described in Test Method D 2122may also be used.8.4.2 Wall ThicknessMeasure the wall thickness of thethinnest cross sect

46、ion of the waterway in the gaps between ribsin accordance with Test Method D 2122. Make sufficientreadings, a minimum of eight, to ensure that the minimumthickness is determined. (See Table 1).8.5 FlatteningFlatten three specimens of pipe betweenparallel plates in a suitable press until the distance

47、 between theplates, expressed as % of the pipe diameter, by the greater of 40% or of the value as determined by 3.43 (OD)/(OD ID). Therate of loading shall be uniform and such that the compressionis completed within 2 to 5 min. The specimen shall pass if nosplitting, cracking, breaking, or separatio

48、n of seams is ob-served under normal light with the unaided eye. The specimenshall be considered as failing this test if the load does notincrease continuously (or smoothly) with increasing deflectionto the point of maximum load. The maximum load point shallnot be less than 30 % deflection.8.5.1 Tes

Impact tests shall be conducted at twodifferent locations. The two locations are (1) directly on thepipe midway between ribs, and (2) directly on the seam.(Where a seam cannot be struck directly, this orientation
