3、 andcross-linked (PEX) reinforcing rings for use with cross-linkedpolyethylene (PEX) plastic tubing in38,12,58,34, 1, 1-14 ,112in. and 2 in. nominal diameters that meet the requirements ofSpecifications F 876 and F 877. These fittings are intended foruse in 100 psi (690 kPa) cold- and hot-water dist

4、ributionsystems operating at temperatures up to and including 180F(82C). The system is comprised of a PEX reinforcing ring anda cold expansion fitting. Included are the requirements formaterials, workmanship, dimensions, and markings to be usedon the fitting components. The components covered by thi

5、sspecification are intended for use in residential and commer-cial, hot and cold, potable water distribution systems as well assealed central heating, including under-floor-heating systems.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. Classification4.1 This specification covers one class of cold expansionfittings with PEX reinforcing rings suitable for use with PEXtubing that meets the requirements of Specifications F 876 andF 877.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Cold expansion fittings shall b

18、e made from one of thefollowing materials:5.1.1 Brass:5.1.1.1 Machined BrassMachined brass fittings shall bemade from Copper Alloy UNS No. C31400 per SpecificationB 140, Copper Alloy UNS No. C36000 per SpecificationB 16/B 16M, or of Copper Alloy UNS No.C35330.5.1.1.2 Forged BrassForged brass fitting

19、s shall be madefrom Copper Alloy UNS No. C37700 per Specification B 283.5.1.1.3 Sand CastingsSand cast brass fittings shall bemade from Copper Alloy UNS No. C84400 or C89844 perSpecification B 584.5.1.2 Sulfone:5.1.2.1 20 % Glass-Filled PolysulfonePolysulfone fit-tings produced using glass reinforce

20、ment shall be molded frompolysulfone materials as specified in Specification D 6394. Thepolymers shall consist of polysulfone and glass fiber and meetthe following line call out for additional properties(SP0113G20A30430).5.1.2.2 Unreinforced Sulfone Plastic (SP)Fittings shall bemolded from sulfone p

21、lastic (SP) as specified in SpecificationD 6394. The material shall be unreinforced polysulfone (group01, class 1, grade 2), or polyphenylsulfone (group 3, class 1,grade 2.) Material may also be an unreinforced blend of thesetwo materials with the polyphenylsulfone continuous phasecomprising 55 to 8

22、0% of the blend.5.1.2.3 Clean rework material of the same commercialdesignation, generated for the manufacturers own productionmay be used by the same manufacturer, provided the fittingsmeet all of the requirements of this specification. Reworkmaterial shall not be introduced at a ratio exceeding 25

23、%.5.2 Reinforcing rings shall be made from PEX materialmeeting the performance requirements of 6.1.5.3 Stainless Steelfittings shall be made from materialmeeting the requirements of Specification A 351 stainless steelUNS J92800.6. General Requirements6.1 The following sections of Specification F 877

24、 constitutea part of this specification.6.1.1 Requirements,6.1.2 Test Methods, and6.1.3 Retest and Rejection.6.2 In addition, when a section with a title identical to thatreferenced in 6.1, above, appears in this specification, itcontains additional requirements that supplement those appear-ing in F

25、 877.6.3 System Performance Requirements:6.3.1 GeneralAll performance tests shall be performed onassemblies of fittings, PEX reinforcing rings and PEX tubing.Fittings and reinforcing rings shall meet the material anddimensional requirements of this specification. PEX tubingshall meet the requirement

26、s of Specifications F 876 and F 877.Assembly of test specimens shall be in accordance with 10.1.Each assembly shall contain at least two joints. Use separatesets of assemblies for each performance test requirement.6.3.2 DimensionsAny randomly selected fitting or fittingsand PEX reinforcing rings sha

27、ll be used to determine dimen-sions. Measurements shall be made in accordance with TestMethod D 2122, except determine diameter by making mea-surements at four locations spaced at approximately 45 apartaround the circumference. Inspection and gauging of solderjoint ends shall be accordance with ANSI

28、 B16.18, ANSIB16.22, or MSS SP-104.7. Performance Requirements7.1 PEX Reinforcing Rings:7.1.1 DensityWhen determined in accordance with 11.1,the PEX reinforcing rings shall have a density in the rangefrom 926 to 940 kg/m3.7.1.2 Degree of Cross-linkingWhen tested in accordancewith 11.2, the degree of

29、 cross-linking for PEX reinforcing ringsshall be within the range from 70 to 89% inclusive.7.1.3 Stabilizer Migration ResistanceWhen tested in ac-cordance with 11.3, the time t2, shall be at least 50% of thetime, t1.8. Dimensions8.1 Dimensions and TolerancesThe dimensions and tol-erances of fittings

30、 and PEX reinforcing rings shall be as shownin Figs. 1 and 2 and Fig. 4 when measured in accordance with6.3.2.8.1.1 AlignmentThe maximum angular variation of anyopening shall not exceed 1 off the true centerline axis.8.1.2 Fittings with Solder Joint EndsSolder joint endsshall be in accordance with A

31、NSI B16.22, ANSI B16.18 orMSS SP-104.8.1.3 Tapered Threaded EndsFitting threads shall beright-hand conforming to ANSI B1.20.1. They shall be taperthreads (NPT).9. Workmanship, Finish and Appearance9.1 The fittings shall be made from compounds that arehomogeneous throughout. The sealing surfaces of t

32、he insertshall be smooth and free of foreign material. The fitting wallsshall be free of cracks, holes, blisters, voids, foreign inclusions,or other defects that are visible to the naked eye and that affectwall integrity.10. Assembly10.1 Cold Expansion JointsFittings shall be joined toPEX tubing by

33、the contraction of the tubing and reinforcingring over the insert of the cold expansion fitting. Fittings andPEX reinforcing rings shall meet the dimensional and materialrequirements of this standard. PEX tubing shall meet therequirements of Specification F 876 or F 877.F196007210.2 Expansion ToolTh

34、e expansion tool shall expand thePEX tubing and reinforcing ring to a maximum inside diameteras listed in Table 1. The expanded tubing shall be round toensure uniform contraction of the tubing around the coldexpansion fitting. The expansion tool shall be inspected forwear according to the manufactur

35、ers instructions.10.3 Procedure:10.3.1 Assembly of ConnectionsAffix the cold expansionfitting to the PEX tubing by sliding the PEX reinforcing ringonto the tubing and positioning the ring so that the end of thering overhangs the end of the tubing a maximum of116 in. (1.6mm). Insert the expansion hea

36、d into the tubing as far as it willgo. Holding the tool so that the centerline of the expansionhead is approximately in line with the centerline of the tubing,operate the tool until the tubing and reinforcing ring are fullyexpanded. After completing the expansion process, remove theexpansion tool an

37、d insert the cold expansion fitting until thetubing hits the shoulder of the fitting or the tube stop. Hold thefitting in place until the tubing contracts sufficiently to hold thefitting in place.10.3.2 Improper ConnectionsIf the insert fitting was notfully inserted to its shoulder or tube stop or t

38、he reinforcing ringwas not placed in accordance with 10.3.1, remove the tubingand ring from the fitting and trim 2 in. from the tubing. Usinga new reinforcing ring, repeat the procedure in 10.3.1.11. Reinforcing Ring Testing Methods11.1 DensityDetermine the density of the reinforcing ringmaterial in

39、 accordance with Test Method D 1505, or TestMethod D 792, using three specimens.11.2 Degree of Cross-LinkingDetermine the degree ofcross-linking in accordance with Test Method D 2765, MethodB except for the following: during sample preparation, place areinforcing ring in a lathe with automatic feedi

40、ng. Shave a stripapproximately 0.004 in.-thick that consists of the full thicknessof the ring. For the purpose of this specification, the degree ofcross-linking (V) is defined as 100 % minus the extract percent= V.11.3 Stabilizer Migration ResistanceCut two 0.4-in. (10-mm) long samples from the rein

41、forcing ring. Store one of thesamples covered at room temperature for 1000 h. Place theother sample in a round-bottom flask with large-mouth,ground-glass or cork joint. 46、heat the flask to boil water. Put a refluxcondenser with ground-glass or cork joint to fit into the flask.Boil for 1000 h but change the distilled water at even intervalstwo times per week. Place the two samples hanging on a thinsteel rod (approximately 0.1-in. (2.5-mm) diameter) in an ovenat 311F (

47、155C) in accordance with Practice D 3045. Let thesamples hang in the oven until both have failed. Failure is anobvious change in the shape or color of the samples, observedvisually. The start of melting of surfaces, drip formation, orcracks indicates a shape change. Color change must besignificant i

48、f it shall be counted as a failure. Observation of thetube samples must be made at intervals making it possible toread the time-to-failure within 15 % of the total testing time.Measure the time-to-failure of the unboiled sample (t1) and theboiled sample (t2).12.
