Terminology3.1 Definitions:3.1.1 booster heater, na water heater that raises thebooster heater inl
10、et water supply temperature (typically 110Fto 140F (43.3C to 60C) to 180F (82.2C) or more toprovide high temperature sanitizing rinse water for a dish-washer machine.3.1.2 dishwasher machine, n(hereafter referred to as dish-washer) machine that uniformly washes, rinses, and heatsanitizes eating and

23、g the manufacturers specificationshall be provided for the gas, electric, or steam booster heater under test.4.1 The booster heater under test is connected to theappropriate metered energy supply. The measured energy inputrate is determined and checked against the rated input beforecontinuing with t
24、esting.4.2 Pilot energy rate is determined, when applicable, for gasbooster heaters.4.3 Flow capacity, energy rate and energy efficiency of thebooster for continuous water flow is determined with thebooster heater inlet water supplied at 110+03 F (43.3+01.7C) and 140+03 F (60.0+01.7 C).4.4 Flow rate
25、, energy rate and energy efficiency of thebooster for continuous water flow at 50% of flow capacity isdetermined with the booster heater inlet water supplied at 110+03 F (43.3+01.7 C) and 140+03 F (60.0+01.7 C).4.5 The preheat energy consumption and time and idle/standby energy consumption rate are
26、determined while thebooster heater is operating with the thermostat(s) set at thecalibrated setting(s) to deliver 183 6 3 F at the booster heateroutlet. The booster heater is supplied with 110+03 F (43.3+01.7 C) and 140+03 F (60.0+01.7 C) water at the boosterinlet.5. Significance and Use5.1 The ener
27、gy input rate test is used to confirm that thebooster heater is operating properly prior to further testing.5.2 Booster heater flow capacity is an indicator of thebooster heaters ability to supply hot water for sanitation. Thebooster heaters flow capacity can be used by the operator todetermine the
28、appropriate size booster heater for their opera-tion. Booster heater energy rate is an indicator of the boosterheaters energy consumption during continuous water flow.The energy rate can be used by food service operators toestimate the energy consumption of the booster heater. Boosterheater energy e
29、fficiency is a precise indicator of a boosterheaters energy performance during the continuous flow test.This information enables the food service operator to considerenergy performance when selecting a booster heater.5.3 Booster heater flow capacity at 50 % of the maximumcapacity is an indicator of
30、the booster heaters ability toprovide hot water for sanitation at this reduce flow ratecondition. Booster heater energy efficiency at a flow rate of 50% of maximum capacity is an indicator of a booster heatersenergy performance at this flow rate. The booster heater outlettemperature during the capac
31、ity test at a flow rate of 50 % ofmaximum capacity is an indicator of the booster heaterstemperature response at this reduced flow rate.5.4 Preheat energy and time can be useful to food serviceoperators to manage power demands and to know how quicklythe booster heater can be ready for operation.5.5
32、Idle energy rate and pilot energy rate can be used toestimate energy consumption during standby periods.6. Apparatus6.1 Barometer, for measuring absolute atmospheric pres-sure, to be used for adjustment of measured natural gas volumeto standard conditions. Shall have a resolution of 0.2 in. Hg andan
33、 uncertainty of 0.2 in. Hg.6.2 Exhaust Hood, (if applicable) some gas booster heatersmay require an exhaust hood for exhausting gas combustionproducts. Follow manufacturers venting specifications.6.3 Flowmeter, for measuring total water consumption ofthe booster heater. Shall have a resolution of 0.
34、01 gal (40 mL)and an uncertainty of 0.01 gal (40 mL) at a flow rate as low as0.2 gpm (13 mL/s). Shall be designed to operate with watertemperatures between 50F to 195F. The flowmeter shall becalibrated at both 110F and 140F booster heater inlettemperatures and their corresponding test flow rates and
35、booster heater outlet temperatures.6.4 Gas Meter, for measuring the gas consumption of thebooster heater (if applicable). Shall have a resolution of at least0.01 ft3(0.0003 m3) and a maximum uncertainty no greaterF 2022 01 (2007)2than1%ofthemeasured value for any demand greater than2.2 ft3/h (0.06 m
36、3/h). If the meter is used for measuring the gasconsumed by pilot lights, it shall have a resolution of at least0.01 ft3(0.0003 m3) and have a maximum uncertainty nogreater than2%ofthemeasured value.6.5 Insulation, for insulating all exterior fittings and plumb-ing. The insulation shall have a therm
37、al insulation value (Rvalue) of at least 4 (h 3 ft23 F)/Btu (5.67 (m23 C)/W).6.6 Pressure Gage, for monitoring natural gas pressure.Shall have a range of 0 to 10 in. H2O, a resolution of 0.5 in.H2O, and a maximum uncertainty of1%ofthemeasuredvalue.6.7 Pressure Gage, for monitoring water pressure sup
38、pliedto and from the booster heater. The pressure gage on thedownstream side of the booster heater shall have a range of 15to 25 psi, a resolution of 61 psi, and a maximum uncertaintyof1%ofthemeasured value. The pressure gage on theupstream side of the booster heater shall have a range of 0 to200 ps
39、i, a resolution of 65 psi, and a maximum uncertainty of1 % of the measured value.6.8 Stopwatch, with a 1-s resolution.6.9 Temperature Sensor, for measuring natural gas tempera-ture in the range of 50F to 100F (10C to 37.8C), with aresolution of 0.5F (0.3C) and an uncertainty of 61F(0.6C).6.10 Thermo
40、couple Probe, industry standard Type T or TypeK thermocouples capable of immersion with a range of 50F to200F (10C to 93.3C) and an uncertainty of 61F.6.11 Watt-Hour Meter, for measuring the electrical energyconsumption of a booster heater. Shall have a resolution of atleast 10 Wh and a maximum unce
41、rtainty no greater than 1.5 %of the measured value for any demand greater than 100 W. Forany demand less than 100 W, the meter shall have a resolutionof at least 10 Wh and a maximum uncertainty no greater than10 %.6.12 Water Pressure Regulator, for controlling the waterline pressure to and from the
42、booster heater. Two regulators arerequired. Adjustable within a range of 10 to 30 psi for theregulator downstream of the booster heater. Adjustable withina range of 10 to 200 psi for the regulator upstream of thebooster heater.6.13 Solenoid Valve, for regulating water flow from thebooster heater. Si
43、zed to booster heater manufacturers pipediameter specifications.6.14 Tempering Valve or Equivalent Temperature ControlDevice, for regulating the temperature of the water beingsupplied to the booster heater inlet. Tempering valve shall becapable of operating within the delivered water temperaturerang
44、e from 100F (37.8C) to 150F (65.6C) and capable ofmaintaining 61.5F (60.8C) of any specific delivery tem-perature set point within this range.6.15 Steam Flowmeters, for measuring the flow of steam tothe booster heater (if applicable). Shall have a resolution of0.01 ft3(0.0003 m3) and a maximum uncer
45、tainty of1%ofthemeasured value.6.16 Calibrated Exposed Junction Thermocouple Probes,industry standard Type T or Type K thermocouple with a rangefrom 50F to 200F (10 to 93.3C), a resolution of 0.2F(0.1C), and an uncertainty of 1.0F (0.5C), for measuringtemperature at the booster heater inlet and outl
46、et connections.Calibrated Type K or Type T 24 GA thermocouple wire withstainless steel sheath and ceramic insulation is the recom-mended choice for measuring the booster heater inlet and outlettemperatures. The thermocouple probe shall be fed through acompression fitting so as to submerse the expose
47、d junction inbooster heater water inlet and outlet.6.17 Temperature and Pressure Relief Valve(s), sized tohandle the maximum energy input of the booster heater withautomatic reset and capable of releasing at temperatures andpressures above the booster heater maximum working condi-tions. The relief v
48、alve can be integral with both temperatureand pressure relief capacity or separate valves for temperatureand pressure control.6.18 Hammer Arrestor (Shock Absorber), to eliminate waterhammer caused by the quick closing of the solenoid valve.6.19 Throttling Valve, to adjust the water flow rate (gal/mi
49、nand gal/h) from the booster heater. Maximum water flowthrough throttling valve shall be large enough to accommodatethe largest water flow requirements of the booster heater.Throttling valve shall be gate type or equivalent industrystandard. Valve shall be sized to booster heater manufacturerspipe diameter specifications.6.20 Primary Supply, water heating system capable ofsupplying water at each of the following temperature ranges of110+03 F (43.3+01.7 C)
